Well the shaders that they're using for the clothing looks much better. At least on these characters, anyway.

Shame though...just another multiplat title, man.
Good thing for God of War :-)

The graphics look very good ! The Duel between Dante and Nero seems to be really dynamic and cinematic !! Damn can't wait to see a new trailer or to see the duel at TGS....
But I dont like the look of the new characters, I found them unatractive and not charismatic at all.
Oh and the mysterious lady seems to be the one with the new weapon seen in the Diary at the official site.

I love the cloth simulation in those shots. Dante's jacket really looks awesome. Very nice attention to detail in the modeling process. However what still irks is comparing this to the initial shots of RE5 when they're the same damn graphics engine. How is the RE team pulling that off when DMC4 looks like this? Not to say that DMC4 looks bad. It looks incredibly sharp..but just compare Dante's DMC4 character model to Chris' RE5 model.

DMC4 runs at 60 fps while RE5 most likely runs at 30 fps. RE games don't have the same effects and mechanics DMC games do. But most importantly, the art direction is totally different in both games. It would be weird that they looked similar.

^^^ Those pics are extremely impressive!
I hope the actual game looks that good and the pics aren't "enhanced" for marketing purposes... The new characters don't seem that interesting, but you have to admit Gloria is damn sexy... I will keep my eye on this game, but it's still not on my must buy list yet. I was never really a big DMC fan, but if the game is solid I will definately give it a go, because I'm an action genre fan.

I'm not sure that the PS3 is the lead development platform considering this will be the first title on the PS3 using the engine and Capcom has experience with the engine on 2 360 titles...

I'm not sure that the PS3 is the lead development platform considering this will be the first title on the PS3 using the engine and Capcom has experience with the engine on 2 360 titles...What? DMC4 started development on PS3 (PS2, actually) and only the PS3 version has been shown so far in playable form. Just because other Capcom teams have released two different games using a multiplatform engine doesn't mean it can't be a PS3 game first and foremost.

From what I heard...They started production of the 360 version right around the time it was announced for 360.The PS3 version is almost finished and their waiting for the 360 version to be completed so they can launch both at the same time.

I read that the 360 version still had a long way to go last month. Surely most of the art assets are already done and the PS3 version is getting close to completion, but the other versions will have to catch up. I'm afraid that Capcom will not want to make it a timed exclusive for PS3 and DMC4 will launch simultaneously on all platforms next year.

Devil May Cry has changed, forever.

TEEDA
07-21-2007, 04:32 AM
Well It has changed in a good way for a gameplay point of view I think. The introduction of Nero and his gameplay style is a good thing. But I miss soooooooooooo much the old " ghotic " and " freaking " art direction of the first DMC.. I mean look at the environments, well it's good to be in a big city but hey it's supposed to be DMC. a big stylish guy with a gun and a sword, slashing some badass demons in a freaking horror like setting areas lol.

But hey it's DMC whatever...So i' ll buy it as long as the press gives it 8/10 or more. But I' m not that excited as before..I can't deny because it's a multiplateform game ( I m not a fanboy or a hater) but it would 've been so much better to be an optimized title for any console.
It 's just has the potential to be an excellent game.

I played it at E3, it's cool. It's no heavenly sword but it's tight. I think the series is getting a little too familiar, perhaps, but it's still cool so I'm getting it. The devil bringer does a great job of 'rethinking' the way you play a DMC game. The ability to bring enemies to you changes the game more than you might think, and it's a good thing. Your combos will sky rocket.

Mhmm I think i disagree. We ' ve only seen the same things since the first screens of the game. the city, the kind of marionnets ennemies, the frosts , Berial, and Dante , Nero and the new introduction of the new characters.
I don't want to be spoiled to much with the new moves , the devil bringer and the storyline between Dante and nero, I think they are doing right at the moment.
But yeah I' d like to see the new trailer featuring more of the Nero / Dante duel and more badass ennemis. Cauz if the game is to be released in Japan in the next couple of months I hope they will not let too much mysterty ala DMC2 and rush the game. But yeah it's been nearly 10 months or more they are working on it's supposed to be nearly finished now...But it looks like they were targeting the US market with the new art direction, less gore and more easy and attractive gameplay...I found the previous DMCs perfeclty designed for all markets, but Now I don't know, it feels like every games are targeting a US audience and not focusing on EU or Japanese market.
Just looking at Dante's new design ( which kicks ass ) , it just felt like a western designed character.

but--I'll probably play it more than Ninja Gaiden...

sry to derail, but am I the only one turned off by Ninja gaiden in the later levels? It..just feels wrong:huh: like Ryu doesn't even fit in the same settings as guns/tanks.

I wish I could just playing the first half of the chapters--but I gotta beat the whole thing to play on harder difficulties:-(

May have one of the best combat systems--but it's severely lacking in art direction and just well...style...

Maybe NG2 will be different..

Well if you think about his actual time line and at least his relation to the DOA series, Ryu Hayabusa lives in the present day.

The Vigoor Empire is a corrupt human empire that is secretly run by demons. I can definitely understand why he would be fighting demons and military alike as he gets deeper into the capital of the empire.

I mean...the game didn't start off correct either if you remember...his father's name is Joe.

DMC will remain the best one if Capcom doesn't do a RE with the series and really go back to the drawing board to try something new, change up the formula.

I agree that with this timeframe, DMC4 would have been basically the same if it was exclusive to PS3 (might have gotten some Sixaxis support though)

Head of Capcom R&D: Keiji Inafune

20 Jul 2007 19:14

by Adam Hartley

Keiji Inafune, has one of the most coveted jobs in videogames – he is in charge of game development at Capcom – his full title being Head of Research & Development and Online Business at Capcom.

Inafune-san is 42 years old, though his looks belie this age and he could easily be mistaken for being in his early or mid 30s. He has been at Capcom for over 20 years starting off as graphic designer on the classic Street Fighter (1987), and later designing the hugely popular Rockman series (or "Megaman" as it’s known over here), based around the timeless rock-paper-scissors concept.

More recently, Inafune-san has developed the Onimusha series as well as Dead Rising and Lost Planet Extreme Condition for Xbox 360.

In 2005 he was promoted from corporate officer to senior corporate officer. SPOnG caught up with him at E3 recently for a quick chat about development strategy, what he thought of this year’s show, how he plans to make use of Nintendo’s Wii Fit Balance Board peripheral and more. Read on.

SPOnG: Hi, before we start to talk about all things Capcom – particularly Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5 – I just wanted to ask you what your general impressions of the new E3 format this year were.

Keiji Inafune: Since E3 has changed so drastically, it’s a completely different show now. Companies have booths in various hotels and to see everyone’s booths you have to go from hotel to hotel. It’s hard to see how other people are doing. It’s very different to how it used to be.

SPOnG: Do you prefer it?

Keiji Inafune: No. I liked the previous style where everybody was in the same area and you could walk from booth to booth to see what other people were doing.

SPOnG: I agree! But why do you think some, if not most, publishers don’t seem to want to return to the old style E3?

Keiji Inafune: My theory on this is that certain publishers ended up with escalating costs and spending more and more money each year until it just got out of hand and then the publishers got together and said ‘this is costing us too much money to do this every year’ – that’s where it came from.

SPOnG: Two titles I mainly wanted to talk to you about today were Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5. What’s new in Devil May Cry 4? And, what was the thinking behind Resi Evil 5 being set in Africa, for example?

Keiji Inafune: Well, I’m overseeing production on those titles, as well as all Capcom’s other titles, so I can only really answer general questions on those titles. For specific questions you’re better checking out the demos outside – and check with the game’s producer [indicates DMC4 producer, Kobayashi-san] out there.

As for Resident Evil 5, all we’ve done is shown the trailer and we’ve been instructed not to say anything more to anybody. Not just you press guys. Anyone; other than it is scheduled for release next year on PS3 and Xbox 360.

SPOnG: Okay, but one of the bigger news stories relating to Devil May Cry 4 recently was the fact that it is now also being developed for Xbox 360… the game is no longer exclusive to PlayStation – what was the thinking behind this decision?

Keiji Inafune: Until now it’s been hard for us to develop multi-platform games, but recently we have developed this development engine that allows us to develop a game in the engine and then put it on to PS3 and 360.

Developing Dead Rising and Lost Planet helped flush out everything in the development tool system – which is now pretty much complete, aside from the usual upgrades – so we decided to use that engine, make it for the 360 and the PS3 with Devil May Cry 4.

So, now we can get the game out into the hands of more gamers - because 360 has such a huge installed base already, especially in the US, and as game makers we want as many people to have the chance to play our games as possible.

SPOnG: What were your impressions of the big three conferences this year?

Keiji Inafune: Well, going to all three conferences I was genuinely impressed with all the line-ups that each platform holder has. For the 360 and PS3 it is clear that a lot of companies are going multi-platform – there was a lot of doubling up of the same titles on both platforms. But at the same time both [Sony and Microsoft] each has a good range of exclusive first-party titles for each console.

As for Nintendo, they had a great line-up too. As usual, there is a good first party line-up with Nintendo – which is where a lot of their strength lies. Capcom, as a company, wants to make sure we stick with Nintendo as well, trying to make games that are hopefully of the same level of quality as Nintendo’s own games, taking advantage of the unique Nintendo hardware.

SPOnG: On that topic, how has Capcom’s relationship with Nintendo changed over the last ten or fifteen years?

Keiji Inafune: I can’t really get into too many specifics, you know. Over the years things change. New consoles come and go. At Capcom we’ve always done our best to support Nintendo and to have a good relationship with them and they return the favour by supporting us as much as they can.

SPOnG: For me, one of the highlights of the show so far has to be Nintendo’s Wii Fit, as demo’ed by Mr Miyamoto yesterday at the conference. Any ideas how you might incorporate that new peripheral [the Wii Balance Board] into development at Capcom?

Keiji Inafune: Of course! When I saw Wii Fit yesterday, at the same time you did, we all thought – everybody on the Capcom team – that this was something genuinely new and is definitely going to be popular and as such is something we are definitely going to support. So the pressure is on us now to go home next week and start brainstorming about the things we can potentially use it for and do with it.

SPOnG: What about any other Wii projects that gamers might look forward to from Capcom in 2008?

Keiji Inafune: We do have some very great things in the works for the Wii next year, but we have plenty of games planned for the next two or three years on all formats – Wii, PS3, 360, DS, PSP, PC. Lots of announcements ahead!

SPOnG: I just wanted to ask you a little about the differences between Japanese and Western gamers and games developers. With Lost Planet and Dead Rising being developed specifically with a Western audience in mind – how have those games done in Japan?

Keiji Inafune: Well of course they haven’t sold as well as they have done in Europe and America. The installed base of 360 owners in Japan is still very small in comparison with Europe and America. But saying that most of the 360 owners in Japan bought these two titles. If there were more people owning 360s in Japan then we would have sold even better. So I think we can say that both games were hits in all territories. To us they did a lot better than we expected in Japan.

SPOnG: On that point, what might Microsoft do to keep driving and improving 360 sales in Japan?

Keiji Inafune: Microsoft will continue to push the 360 in Japan. It’s a hard thing to sell to Japanese gamers, but I think they have some things up their sleeve and will continue to try to give Japanese gamers the experiences they want to have on a gaming console.

SPOnG: But why is it such a hard thing to sell to Japanese gamers?

Keiji Inafune: Japanese gamers, or Japanese people in general, are very loyal to brands – whether it be clothing or cars or consumer electronics – so they are still very loyal to Sony and Nintendo. Maybe this brand loyalty isn’t there yet for Microsoft as a videogame console company. Hopefully it will start to improve in future though.

SPOnG: Okay, lets move on to PS3 – which has had a pretty difficult first year so far in the West. How has its first year been in Japan to date?

Keiji Inafune: Sony is a very very big brand in Japan – not only for PlayStation, but for consumer electronics more generally – and I think there are a lot of people who want to buy a PS3 in Japan, but the price is an issue for a lot of people and also the game line-up. So I think there a lot of people waiting for a price reduction and for more games for the system. But it’s true that it hasn’t done well. Or as well as they thought it would – just the same as in Europe and America.

SPOnG: And what of the PS2? Which has a huge installed base in Japan. Is Capcom still supporting PS2?

Keiji Inafune: Yes, we still have a number of titles, people are still looking for new experiences on the PS2. It’s just a matter for us of how long we continue to support PS2… in terms of when we transition ourselves over to predominantly developing games for the next gen consoles. It’s something we are constantly debating.

SPOnG: What are your most favourite and least favourite aspects of developing for PlayStation 3 and for Xbox 360?

Keiji Inafune: So for the Xbox 360, what I really like about the hardware is, in my mind at least, it is basically perfect for developers. It’s based on PC architecture, its extremely easy to develop for, it just works really well. The thing that I don’t like about it – at least in Japan – is that it is not selling well enough to the Japanese consumer, so when making games for Xbox 360 we have to take that into consideration.

For the PS3, the power of the hardware and the CPU and the graphics – there is a lot of potential, but we still haven’t had enough time working with the hardware to really explore and exploit the machine to its fullest potential. The price is an issue. If Sony – and I know it is difficult as a first party manufacturer and there are a lot of things behind the scenes that most people aren’t aware of – but if they can get the hardware into a more reasonable place for consumers then that would really help.

SPOnG: Can’t agree more. Thanks so much for your time.

Keiji Inafune: Thank you.

I think the problem with DMC is that there are no good villains.

The first DMC was good to a fault seeing that Mundus was the ultimate villian for the series (so far at least) and many of the bosses in the first title were much better designed than those in later games (Griffon FTW).

There is also the fact that Alastar and Ifrit were the most badass weapons ever. Both weapons were extremely useful and each evolution of the weapons were very much necessary for the later sections of the game. The devil tigger in the first title actually felt needed too. I only used devil trigger when I got to dante must die mode in DMC3 because it didn't feel all that useful or necessary to me.

Another issue is that Dante technically received the most powerful weapon he will ever get in the series in the first title, which is kind of funny too. I only hope to see sparda sword again in some later sequel.

There's also the part where DMC3 feels a lot different that the first game.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the only DMC game I like is DMC1 now, well, I love DMC1, DMC4 decision pending obviously.

But seriously, I played DMC3 and I was like 'Wtf? This feels so weird and not nearly as cool as the first.' And I kept playing it and playing it expecting to get accustomed to it, but after a few hours I just couldn't get into it. I dunno, I just liked everything better about DMC1.

The moves, the bosses, even the graphics, the controls, everything. Even the difficulty was better in DMC1, like the enemies and difficulty and the way they attacked you just felt more appropriate.

I dunno, I really didn't like DMC3 at all.

I dunno, I really didn't like DMC3 at all.I liked DMC3, but it kinda forced myself to beat it, just to see the ending while in DMC1 I beat the damn game multiple time on EVERY difficulty.

I dunno, many will say it was new/fresh which is the reason people prefer the first one, but DMC1 was very different from it's iterations. It had a more serious tone to it, story moved along much better and the artistic style had a RE vibe as well.

Just a much more mature game and felt a lot more balanced...

Who knows, it may be because it was new or whatever, but Capcom hasn't touched DMC1 greatness since, reviewers agree as well...

I'll check out DMC4 sooner or later though....Just not for $60 big ones...

I did beat DMC1 in the hardest difficulty and beating all but 1 of the secret missions. DMC3 was way too difficult above hard difficulty.

You know, not to sound like tooting horns or be an ass. But for some reason, I never found 3 to be that much of a difficult game as some reviewers made it out to be. I ended the game without much fuss at all. This is where I too wanna say, I shit you not. Am I used to playin games, thts why or the reviewer guys weren't good with the controls/evasion? But DMC3 wasn't that difficult as blamed to be.

Dante Must Die mode isn't that bad at all if you learn how to taunt and keep your Devil Trigger filled (I only used my devil trigger outside the last Virgil fight in this particular mode).

Heaven or Hell mode is easy as hell...you know that guns one hit kill too right VG?

I agree that Dante Must Die is difficult, but I personally didn't think it was too bad.

I thought DMD mode in the first Devil May Cry was more difficult. Shadows are the most ridiculous enemies to fight in that mode.

It's just that if you figured out how the enemies worked in in Normal mode they didn't change at all except for the amount of hits it takes to kill them. Learning how to avoid their attacks is a skill of its own, but once you learn it in one mode it's no different for the next.

DMC4 360 Looks Better than PS3 version But Controls Worse
http://www.n4g.com/News-61858.aspx

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We played a build of DMC 4 last April during Capcom's annual Gamers Day on the PS3, its native console, and were happy with the demo. Capcom officially announced that the Xbox 360 version would be playable during Games Convention, so we headed over earlier today to beat the Thursday rush. Our verdict? No matter what poison you pick, you'll probably end up happy, even if we have some small misgivings about the 360 controller's configuration.

For those not in the know, DMC 4 will put you mainly in the shoes of demon-hunter Nero, who's hunting down Dante, the face of the franchise. We don't know many more details regarding the game's plot, but we're sure that, based on our time with the two sections that we played, it should maintain the quality that we saw in the first and third games in the series.

The catch to the demo was that it was a slightly modified version of the same build we played back in April and previewed in early May. In one section, now dubbed "Exterminator," Capcom shows off the game's platforming and combat fundamentals. Nero battles creatures and solves puzzles in typical DMC fashion while players learn about his abilities, which seem similar to Dante's except for the Devil Bringer, a special arm that allows for some specialized combat. In the other section, now known as "Executioner," Nero battles Berial, a fiery hellspawn that's taller than the buildings that Nero uses for shelter (or green orbs, depending on whether Berial destroys them or not), eventually bringing him to his demonic knees.

But really, what you probably want to know is what's different between the two versions, and based on our fifteen minutes with each one (PS3 first to jog our memory, then 360 to see the difference), we think that the two versions are fairly similar visually. The PS3 version looks marginally less refined to us, but anyone looking to start a console-superiority argument wouldn't have much ammo here. Both games look amazing. It's the controls, however, where we felt the biggest difference.

Argue however much you will; after five and a half years of hacking, slashing, and shooting demons, we and millions of gamers are very accustomed to the feel of the PlayStation controller, be it Dual Shock 2 or Sixaxis, for the DMC experience. Our gripe with the Xbox 360 demo is that the controls feel too directly ported over to Microsoft's controller, and it's not a good ergonomic fit. While the DMC games on PlayStation have used R1 to modify Dante's attacks, the Right Bumper doesn't feel natural to the gameplay experience, and certainly feels weird when you're targeting enemies to slay. Maybe it's just for the demo, and Capcom will allow for controller configurations that are better tuned to the Xbox 360's controller, but it felt really awkward to play during our demo. Aside from that, the face buttons feel perfectly fine, and the rest of the build, aside from the annoyance of the Right Bumper, is still very fun. We just wish Capcom hadn't slapped a ten-minute time limit on the "Exterminator" section, but then again, we've braved the Games Convention crowd on public days; those kids would never get off the machines.

Now that we've gotten to play a build of Devil May Cry 4 for Xbox 360, we can safely say that it's just as amazing-looking as the PS3 version, if not a hair more polished. It's still pretty much the same demo that we tried out a few months ago during a Capcom media event, so there weren't many surprises for us in regard to expectations. That aside, we hope that in the final product (or heck, future builds), the development team will allow for some control configuration. As it stands now, we're not sure we could tolerate using the Right Bumper so excessively on the Xbox 360 controller instead of the triggers, which are much more comfortable. Some might accuse us of nitpicking or fanboy bias, but honestly, gameplay, ergonomics and controls are king. We're hoping to see Dante and Nero rule the roost, regardless of platform, when DMC 4 drops next year.

Better controls on PS3. Smoother and better polished on 360.( maybe due to the frameengeine being better suited on 360.

I'm getting DMC4 regardless of how "different" the game seems to most people, I never bought DMC1 or 3 for its graphics, I bought 'em for its core gameplay. The graphics in DMC4 look awesome to me.

BTW, I second Lali's post; Yes, the PS controller is perfect.

I played it at E3, I'm gettin' it. The devil bringer is a nice evolution for the franchise. Completely changes and in a way, rounds out the gameplay mechanic in battle because distance between enemies no longer compromises your battle chains.

^ Something seems off about the PS3 screens like they were taken from a different display... The level of clarity and color are significantly better in the 360 shots, but the level of detail looks the same.

If the pics are legit and a truely fair comparison Capcom has some serious issues to resolve with the PS3. What would make this even more troubling is Capcom's claims that the PS3 is the lead platform...

The PS3 screens seem to have more texture detail on screen to me (or is just clearer).

I see more detail in Nero's costume in the first comparison shot on the PS3 version. The wrinkles in the red cloth are much more apparent in the PS3 pic. Although Nero is missing the shoulder strap button on in PS3 shot, his shoulder shows much more definition in the PS3 shot (the detail in the shoulder part of his clothing in the 360 version seems to blend together too much). Nero's hair also seems to have more texture detail in the PS3 shot than the 360 counterpart, with the PS3 version having more different tones of gray and white.

With the second comparison shot, the fence in the background seems to be a little thicker and more apparent in the PS3 version. The brick wall seems to have more actual textured bricks in teh PS3 version, but it seems like the 360 version of the wall seems to show more depth.

When it comes to the last pic...the PS3 shot just appears to have much more of a background while the area in the 360 pic is just very dark in the distance and seems smaller to me.

This however is just nitpicking and both will look exactly the same in motion. The 360 version will probably catch peoples eyes more since the colors are so much more pronounced, but the PS3 version still looks absolutely amazing to me.

The PS3 shots look more detailed, the threading on the hood of his jacket and the bullet visible in the gun. They are really darker though.

It's weird though, wouldn't that just be a matter of adjusting the overall contrast and brightness of the damn scene? What does system power have to do with the exposure?

not really... those other designs are to go with the lead character being dante. ive always seen dante as an industrial (music genre, look it up lol) kinda guy. and Nero, is still a bad ass but not really the same type as dante he's.... cleaner? seems more spirited, younger in mind and body. little less mature maybe? therefore i see a change in the cover art to suit his charater.

but this is all my observastion :P and its pretty silly bullshit i know.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi is a producer of many talents, having worked on everything from Resident Evil 4 to the original Devil May Cry to, er, Blinx 2. We managed to catch a few minutes with the man in Leipzig as Devil May Cry 4 finally nears release after recent delays, and talk about his approach to taking the series forward.

Eurogamer: Was moving away from Dante for Devil May Cry 4 a big creative decision, or did it come fairly naturally?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: Frankly it was a big decision, but having said that, on reflection, we have used Dante three times. We wanted to consider new players for Devil May Cry 4, to create an environment that would be easily accessible for them as well as satisfying for those who are already fans of the franchise; in bringing Devil May Cry 4 to a new generation of platforms, we thought it would be a good idea to introduce a new character at the same time.

This new character Nero, who starts the game, is characteristically wild, quite immature, young, and very passionate. At the same time he is kind of a rebel. Dante is not completely abandoned - he becomes playable around the middle of the game.

Eurogamer: With both characters playable, was it difficult to balance the old and the new?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: It was quite easy to decide on the new elements, such as the new main character, and the new style of action he will bring to the game. We're also going back to old favourites, guns and swords - that was OK too, but when to introduce Dante, the timing of it, that was quite difficult.

Eurogamer: DMC3 was one of the last generation's definitive action games. Who do you feel is your competition within the genre, this time around?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: Obviously there are many competing games coming out around the same time, but when you think about this type of action, Devil May Cry 4 is quite unique. I can't think of any real competitors.

As far as inspiration is concerned, personally I was looking back to the original Devil May Cry. It was the title to introduce the genre and the franchise, so I wanted to focus upon making something better than that. Much as Resident Evil 4 came up with a complete new type of game within the context of the franchise, if I can do that again within the Devil May Cry franchise, I will be happy.

Eurogamer: Are the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions really identical?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: The actual contents are exactly the same, but having said that, the feel of the controller may cause a slight difference.

Eurogamer: And what about the PC version? How are you ensuring that it won't have the same problems as Devil May Cry 3 did?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: Yeah, well, the PC version will be great because the same team is working on both [console and PC versions]. So it shouldn't be a problem.

Eurogamer: Devil May Cry 3 was absolutely infamous for its insane difficulty - how are you approaching that for DMC4? Are you ramping up the punishment, or making it more accessible?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: [Laughs] It's interesting to know that someone would think we could create a game that would be more difficult than Devil May Cry 3! We had to learn a lesson there, actually, because DMC3 was really difficult. What we found was that people sometimes lost interest within the first two hours because the game just wasn't giving them any chance whatsoever. So DMC4 will be about same difficulty level, but we thought that we would be a little bit kinder to the player, so we're going to give a step-by-step guide on how to use the weapons and skills so that you should naturally progress to a better skill level a little more easily than in DMC3.

Anyone who hadn't played the DMC franchise could start off with number 4. There have actually been people who aren't all that familiar with the series who've played DMC4 and thought that Nero was Dante. Another interesting thing is that if you start off with DMC4, you'll obviously encounter Dante, and if you want to know more about him you could go back and play the previous titles.

Eurogamer: How are you keeping up the series' reputation for incredible cinematics?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: Well, we're still using [Yuji] Shimomura-san, who is a proper film director anyway, and he is in charge of cinematics. What we do is lengthy process, but quite effective. He actually hires actors to act out the scene first, and then taking that footage, if it's effective, they use motion capture equipment on those actors. From there, the motion capture is worked into the cinematics. So it takes a lot of time, but it works well.

Eurogamer: How close is Devil May Cry 4 to completion, now?

Hiroyuki Kobayashi: Well, time is quite tight, to be honest. We're working frantically hard. But we've gone over the hill now, if you like, and we're finishing up. Hopefully we can deliver it on time.

TGS '07: Devil May Cry 4 Hands-On
Capcom runs PS3 and 360 version of Devil May Cry 4 side by side in Tokyo, plus debuts two new trailers.

When news of Devil May Cry 4 going multiplatform to both the PS3 and Xbox 360 broke in May this year, the reaction from fanboys was obvious--PlayStation fans derided the move, while Xbox stalwarts cheered to the heavens. Since then, GameSpot has played demo levels from both console versions, and found the differences to be, well, difficult to spot. Content-wise, Capcom reps tell us both versions will have exactly the same gameplay, and have confirmed today at TGS that both the 360 and PS3 versions will run at a solid 60fps at 720p resolution.

At Capcom's booth at TGS today, both versions were playable practically side-by-side on more than two dozen screens, although the levels being shown were the same ones that have been displayed since last year. Once again, it was near impossible to discern the two graphics-wise, although the PS3 did seem to have sharper draw distance than the 360, particularly in the demo level's wharf environment. And in terms of gameplay control, both versions are once again quite similar.

Capcom did, however, showcase some new trailers for Devil May Cry 4. The first was a frenetic mix of action sequences from the game, and featured some cool moves from this game's main protagonist, Nero. There was also quite a lot of returning hero Dante, and we're teased with more glimpses of the fight between Nero and Dante seen in previous trailers. Dante also looks like he'll get to take on what we're assuming will be one of Devil May Cry 4's newest bosses--a large, dragon-like creature that can fly and even transforms at one stage into a gigantic Little Shop of Horrors-style plant monster. Other highlights include what looks like new moves for the Devil May Cry series, including one where Dante spins upside down in mid-air while pumping an opponent below with bullets, and some impressive new air throws. The second, longer trailer was more story focused, although it was only after clarifying some confusing things with a Capcom rep that the trailer shed its story secrets. The source of animosity between Nero and Dante apparently lays in Dante's move to kill a friend of Nero's--a friend which happens to be demon, although Nero is unaware of that. There were plenty of other things that caught our eye, however, including one particularly cool shot of Dante "wearing" a new weapon, the Gilgamesh. Consisting of two steel gloves, steel boots, and a faceplate which covers the bottom of Dante's face Hannibal Lecter-style, we're not quite sure what the Gilgamesh does, but it does look undeniably cool.

Devil May Cry 4 will be released simultaneously in early 2008 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with the PC version arriving shortly after. Check back with GameSpot for more updates

I didn't like the feel of the controls neither...It just felt so stiff and unnatural,I was never a point when I felt I was in full control of Dante...I guess playing God Of War has spoiled me.

not sure if this was in here, but this is an Xbox 360 preview of the game from IGN

New DMC4 Preview (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/822/822009p1.html)

It applies :)

Yesterday, we mentioned that the floor demo at this year's TGS for Devil May Cry 4 isn't particularly new by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, it's the exact same build that we've been playing for months at various press events. What we didn't know is that Capcom was showcasing a new trailer with footage that hadn't been released before of the title, which also divulges a number of secrets.

For the most part, the cuts between cutscenes and in-game play were rather rapid, but it was cohesive enough to get a general sense of major elements of the title. Apart from a battle between Nero and Dante, which takes place in the meeting hall of the Order of the Sword, the three minute trailer showed Nero taking on a gigantic flying worm and a massive plant creature that appeared to swallow him whole. Nero also battled his way through a pack of glowing wolves, apparently in the same general vicinity as the Fortuna stage from the demo. The mysterious character known as Gloria also manages to get in on the action, defeating creatures with a combination of acrobatic kicks and maneuvers.

One thing that we'd never seen with Nero was the ability for the hero to grab and toss weapons back at their original owner, which is demonstrated a couple of times, including a group of armored knights that appear to descend and strike at Nero from the sky. But Nero isn't the only one that's received new attacks. Dante appears to have a brand new set of metallic gauntlets that project spikes from his arms, implying that there is a brand new melee weapon in store for the demon hunter in the title.

Dante isn't the only older character that appears to be included in DMC4. Trish and Lady make a very distinct appearance at a location which appears to be the Devil May Cry Shop. The trailer also implies that a love story plays a role within DMC4, particularly between Nero and the new character Kyrie, who has been shown to sing throughout various game events. Nero appears to be genuinely concerned for Kyrie's well-being throughout the trailer, and the climax of the video footage has him fighting through enemies as he tries to save her from being kidnapped.

We'll have more on Devil May Cry 4 as it becomes available.

What about the score ? did u like it ? it s the same band as in DMC3.
I like the biginning but the softer part looks lil bit of DMC I think , but it does look great.
I just wanted a remix of Dante's THeme from DMC 1 lol.
Can't wait to use Dante's new Devil Arms and hope to see both of their Devil triggers form.
Also wonder if the final battle will have Dante & Nero vs final boss lol.

And I thought this game wasn't all that. I now feel like a fool. I have never been this hyped by DMC since the original game.

Nero has grown on me, his viciousness is shockingly exciting and Dante is as cool as ever, how do you get pounded and leave the fight saying "Adios Kid" in the most cool relaxed manner. Hes so comical, this is the true Dante, the same one from the first game.

All the characters are fitting for this game, I cant believe they have Lady and Trish in this game, the only person thats missing is Vergil. I cant wait to buy this game, DAY 1 PURCHASE.

When Dante wears that mask he reminds me of Mortal Kombat. That circular blade on his shoes makes him look more like a cowboy, I wonder if thats the touch that the devs are going for, make Dante look as American as possible. All he needs is a hat.
