You guys think if Sony's servers constantly keep getting hammered as new online games come out, that they might charge a fee? Esp once things come together over the next several months?

I really hope not but I must say it's starting to look like it a bit.

Once HOME launches through "premium items" hopefully they'll get lots of money and that will be their pay.

If online play is charged for on PSN, then I won't play it and that will be a big shame.

I've never paid for online gaming and I never will, simple as that.

Hopefully not. I'd like to see them stick to their guns, having said that, if the fee was reasonable AND they offered an online offering something akin to Live i'd be more than willing to pay the price . I should say that given time I have no doubt that PSN will rival Live regardless of it being free or requiring payment. I think this has all just came as a bit of a shock to them to be honest and it's just going to take sometime before they get it all together.

WTF. my UK and Japan accounts are able to log into the PSN but my US can't. this really sucks.

It will be interesting to get statistics on PSN usage after the Warhawk & Tekken release. Sony has some real heavy hitters for online play with Resistance, Warhawk, Madden 08 & Tekken online. These are all games that will see a lot of online traffic & considering there's no cost associated with online play I'm sure many are taking advantage of the feature.

I would be willing to bet that the PS3 may have just as many online gamers are even more than Xbox Live, because there's no credit card or cost required... This would be a huge win for the PSN considering the 360 has a significant market share advantage.

May God have mercy on their servers when UT hits...

nah, free is something I see for at least another 2-3 years...

Sony will wait too see how big Home becomes and if they can get money from users purchasing content.

btw--has everyone else been like playing there PS3 NON-STOP for the last few weeks??

I've stated it before, but damn it I can hardly believe it??!

Is the drought really over??!

May God have mercy on their servers when UT hits...

You mean Epic...
Sony will not provide servers it will be Epic's responsibility and I know they will do the standard Peer to Peer structure and not offer dedicated servers like Warhawk...

I would like to see more publishers step up to the plate and offer dedicated servers for online play.

Why?
So THIS can happen (crashes, rankings messing up)? lol

^^Your right, I wasn't even thinking in terms of who is actually running the servers; I was just thinking in terms of how many people will be playing and for free.

Man what a n00b that Fillibuster guy is!

Firmware 1.93 coming this week (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/09/11/updated-ps3-and-psp-firmware/), will solve network issues

Updated PS3 and PSP Firmware

+ Posted by Eric Lempel // Director, PlayStation Network Operations

Taking into account customer feedback and some internal testing, we will be making available in the next few days a firmware update for the PS3 (1.93) that fixes the network disconnect issue that some of you have experienced as a result of downloading Firmware 1.92. In addition, we are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested.

The main feature we’ve added with the recent updates for PSP is the ability to set themes on your PSP. Over time we will be providing themes on PlayStation.com, our official PSP site and through PLAYSTATION Store. You can download themes based on some of our popular titles. Be sure to download the files into the following location on your memory stick:

Once you have downloaded a theme, under settings, go to theme settings, select theme and then custom theme to choose the one you want to display.

You can also now play music while viewing photos or a slideshow. First begin playing a track saved on your memory stick, press the HOME or SELECT button, then navigate to your photos under the Photo icon and begin viewing.

We’ve added several other features including scene search for movies, and you’ll be able to read about them in more depth on the usual update page once it goes live. When it does, I’ll update this post with a direct link.

I guess this means firmware 2.0 might be released in October.

I guess this means firmware 2.0 might be released in October.

I am 99.99999% sure it will be when home comes out.

at least sony is being fast in releasing a fix for 1.92, heck 1.93 might also help with the WarHawk Network

Yeah, I'm certain that 2.0 and Home are completely related as well. Late October, I guess.
