Yes, Con Kolivas, developer of the -ck patchset (sys-kernel/ck-sources on Gentoo), has left the Linux kernel project. APCMag had a nice little interview with him over his reasons why.

Yes of course the kernel developers are fun loving, happy-go-lucky friendly people. Just look at any interview with Linus and see how he views himself.

This made me lol. Does anyone else see Linus as sort of a douche sometimes? He can be very condescending, haha.

yeah, it's kinda sad, i read some of it last night before firefox fucked up on me, i will continue tonight. He provided very good patches, it's sad he's gone. His famous -ck will be missed!

And yes, you're not the only one who thinks Linux is a douche, he is an uber-dickhead but he's just so cool anyway and i agree with most of what he has ever said!

Teh Roxor!

A few of the comments on that artical sparked my interest in OpenSolaris, in fact, I'm running a live CD as I type this! It's certainly no slouch, it's running KDE with compiz and has set everything up correctly it seems. I hope it takes off, it would be interesting to see as another player in the OSS space.

Yeah, which distro of opensorlaris are you using? I'm going to try nexenta in a few days, when i get a few minutes to spare. It's always good to dabble in more UNIX.

Ah the irony. Con's idea of a completely fair CPU scheduler will be implemented in the 2.6.23 kernel:

yeah, i thought of that too, the thing is, his idea of the scheduler must be different as he surely would have heard of it before he decided to quit.

I don't know, I'm just glad one of them got in. Ingo started on his way after Con was working on his. So SD has had much more work put into it.

But I will miss the -ck patches. :-(

the thing I don't get is that -ck is one of the greatest devs (...was) yet they didn't decide to take his patch into account, yet Ingo came out of nowhere and was accepted immediately...

Well, Ingo has a good reputation I guess and is trusted by Linus, apparently. But whatever, Linus said it himself: both perform about the same. It's just that by choosing Ingo's, he lost a good developer, too. Doesn't seem like the smartest decision to choose the one where you lose a developer...

Yeah, well, Linux is a dickhead, but he's awesome all the same :)
