Ok, check this out guys. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLioXNCngCQ)I was just going to post this in the MGS4 thread but thought it definitely deserved it's own, unless it's a hoax.

Can anyone confirm that it works and he isn't just doing it via another controller. If this is rally what's going on then Im totally shocked. It's MGS2 if you want to/can try.

Others are reporting it working in certain ps3 game menus now as well!

This could work on a number of games, it would've been nice for Sony to supply a list for us.

Did you try in the codec screen? By the looks of the video, you need to tilt quite a bit.

Someone is claiming that it works for MGS2, DMC3: SE and Oblivion. Im not sure where exactly it's being used but he said he'll upload some videos. He is a different person than the youtuber that I linked too in 1st post. I can't try until I get home from work.

Also, if you look at the SIXAXIS lights, it shows it to be connected as controller 1.

Here's one for Oblivion. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3pw7Rz7XaE)

~EDIT~

Maybe he has a loose D-pad button :stunned:

i just tried on all my different controllers. and i shook them, tilted, span around. i tried everything and it didnt work lol.

looking at the YT vid again when the controller gets tilted to the right. shouldnt the numbers go up on the codec? not down? cos on the pad it right for up left for down.

There are some PS2 games that recognise the second pad at least in the menus.
Dont know how it is in MGS.

Motion control is a programmed feature. Just like rumble. This is almost surely bogus.

The emulation may be reading an input and not know how to process it so you get strange results but for those with built in PS2's chips, this can't happen.

Maybe it's in the newer models of PS3 that use software emulation?

Yeah, this I know. Im still trying to communicate with the guy.

I tried it with MGS3 and it didn't work at all.

Getting results from the motion sensing unit requires certain library functions. Those were not a part of the PS2 SDK and can't just suddenly work.

the controller moves out of screen plenty of times. meaning this is how i think it was done.

2 ps3s

2 controllers

1 TV

--1 ps3 is in view sitting next to the tv.
--the other is off camera running MGS2
--shows the 1st sixaxis in port 1 thats connected to the offscreen ps3.
--that sixaxis goes off screen when they zoom to show MGS2 on the TV
--when the cam zooms back out the player is holding the 2nd controller which is conncted to port 1 of the on screen ps3.
--the person holds and tilts the 2nd controller with one hand and with his offscreen free hand presses the D-pad or moves the stick of the 1st sixaxis connected to the offscreen ps3.
-- thus moving the codec numbers.

thats how i think its done.

He's not responding yet, I realize for this to work it would have to have been programmed in the PS2 games in the first place but it just caught me by surprise. I thought maybe it was like a universal patch where you could use the tilt feature like the analog sticks but then it would still have to be programmed to work only in menus, so it didn't mess with the gameplay.

Sorry lads.

Ok, I think I've figured out what's going on here.

It seems that if you shake the controller it's actually slightly moving the analog sticks, causing it to make it seem like it has tilt support. The guy in the video wan't shaking it that much so he probably just has very "used" analog sticks that are over sensative now. :twitch:
