So my friend at work was telling me about how awesome this anime was, so she let me borrow it.

I am completely blown away.

Everything about this anime screams excellence at the highest degree, from the detailed and lush animations to the action to the twisting plot. It's one of those shows that you base all other shows by how it compares to it. And I will openly admit (on the forums) that this anime broke my fucking heart into pieces. Even thinking about the ending makes me almost well up in tears.

I will say that this is not an anime for the old folks to watch. Filled with violence and nudity to a high degree. When I say "nudity," I don't mean the whole "OMG ITZ TEH SEXXORZ 4 RL N DRAWINGZ!" This is more, how should I say, "tasteful nudity;" it's almost necessary.

If you have seen it, you are put up a notch higher on my respect chart. If not, please do. You will not regret it.

The violence, by the way, isn't just fighting people. Some stuff is morbid. If you think you can handle one of the tamer parts of the movie, read below.
At one point in a flashback, it shows some schoolboys kick a puppy against a wall, then beat it to death with a vase.

Ive seen the first episode, and I have the whole series somewhere. But I have so many animes to watch that I just didnt bother with it. Well, not yet anyway. I prefer my animes with a little more colour and humour and pirates.

I knew the name was familiar.
I don't watch the show, but I've read a webcomic that is loosely based on Elfen Lied.

Only towards the end when it got sentimental and showed the history of Lucy did it get good. Before that, it was all mindless violence and nudity that really was not needed.

7/10 from me.

This is one of the more colorful animes I've seen. I don't think it's One Piece colorful (yes, I got your hinting), but it's probably one of the better-looking ones out there.

It did get a lot better when they started revealing the memories of Lucy, but that's what really made the series that much better. All those tiny moments that you hear during the rest of the series (on the steps, when Kohta almost remembers, for example) finally come together and make you go, "OH! SHIT!"

I watched this a few years ago. I wish there was more to it. I think it ended too soon.
