CESA details largest ever Tokyo Game Show for 2007 (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=27192)

Matt Martin 11:59 (BST) 31/07/2007

180,000 people expected, 168 exhibitors

This year's Tokyo Game Show will be the largest in the event's history, as it becomes part of the Japan International Contents Festival to promote Japanese-developed content to a wider audience.

A total of 168 exhibitors have so far signed up for the event, including format holders Sony and Microsoft, and major publishers Sega, Capcom, Konami, Namco Bandai and Square Enix, amongst others.

The theme for this year's show is connected networks and how they have expanded the gaming business, under the the banner, 'Link up, Reach out, To the World'.

As previously announced (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=22508), the event has expanded the Business Day component to two full days, featuring the TGS Forum 2007 and a keynote address from Sony CEO Kaz Hirai.

"With numerous major titles set to go on sale, this year's game show serves as an ideal forum for titles to steal a lead in the run-up to the critical end-of-year and New Year sales season, which can be expected to draw even greater interest from visitors to last year's event," said CESA.

This year will also see a renewed focus on mobile phone games, with three major carriers expected to attend as well as mobile sponsor NTT DoCoMo.

With over 51 exhibitors from around the world, for the first time companies from the Netherlands, Sweden and Thailand will be making an appearance, expanding the international reach of the show.

The Japan International Contents Festival is a series of events held in the region during autumn designed to promote games, animation, manga, music, film and broadcasting to a wider audience.

The Tokyo Game Show 2007 is expected to draw 180,000 people over the fours days, with the first two days dedicated to business professionals and the the final two days opening the event up to the general public.

It takes place September 20 – 23 at Makuhari Messe. More details can be found at the official website (http://tgs.cesa.or.jp/english/).Looks like both LGC in August and TGS in September will be way bigger than E3 this year. Expect great announcements at both events.

3 weeks to go for LGC, by the way.

I am really hoping for NO HOME news.
That's the most boring thing Sony can do- It's a nice thing but nothing to hype or announce new things about

Games games games is what we wanna see.
Especially 8Days and Getaway: Next-gen.

I think we will see those two games at Leipzig. As for no Home news, sorry to tell you that the open beta begins next month and I doubt nobody is going to mention it :-p Anyway man, it's not like Sony had boring conferences lately!

Sony will probably announce when the open beta will launch, but if they are saving their big guns for thes3e events(and E3 was indeed pre-mature), then I am expecting to be WOWED!

Or better yet, maybe Nintendo will announce something bigger than Wii Fit or a game that everyone knew would come out but with no details.

It looks like once again Nintendo will not be at TGS.

I'll never understand this. They used to have their own convention called Spaceworld but it's last date was 2000 to unveil the GC. You'd think they'd have moved over to TGS but NOOOOOoo.

Even MS is going to be there.

Just what exactly is Nintendo going to do this year? It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense that they don't take full advantage of TGS every year.

Yeah, it's unfortunate Nintendo doesn't join up.

I always will regret not going to TGS in 2004 when I had the chance. :'(

Just what exactly is Nintendo going to do this year? It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense that they don't take full advantage of TGS every year. They seem to survive Ok even though they never go so I guess it works for them. Thankfully, we now have CG in Germany, E for All in October (spiritual successor to the real E3) and some smaller conventions to get words out. Perhaps with their current domination in Japan it makes little sense to pay hundreds of thousands, or millions, to attend and see 0 sales increase. They are still supply constrained.

Yeah, it's unfortunate Nintendo doesn't join up.

Yeah, that one's going to haunt you. You'll make up for it one day by leading E-mpire through Tokyo one year.

It doesn't matter they're still successful with or without TGS. The more exposure the better, and the fans could always expect big news around the time of the event.

While I agree with you in spirit. I want them to be there too but given that they've never been there before it it's not hurting them and they'd gain little from it, I can see why from a business angle they don't attend (at least this year).
