I'm not sure if it's been confirmed or debunked, but here you have:

Vehicle Select enhancement – your last-used vehicle in each class will now be presented as the default choice during vehicle selection.

Assigned player colours are now displayed in the lobby to make keeping track of your friends and rivals easier during online races and Eliminator matches.

Further Player-Stat Improvements.

Purchasers of ‘Coyote Revenge’ can now race this track in Online and Time Attack.

Purchasers of Eliminator Mode will find results from this mode also contribute to their Fame Ranking.

Track Exploits for Grizzly and Raingod Mesa have been addressed.

Headset support – An occasional firewall conflict with headset communications has been resolved.

Headset support – voice comms output now available exclusively through headset.

Many other improvements and tweaks throughout the game.

Nice! If they'd only fix the vehicle select load time issue it would kick major ass. A little HDD caching is all it would take, during an initial load.

Seriously, that shit is atrocious.

FINALLY a release date!!!!!!!!!!!

The game should just have a "install" option that a lot of games have nowadays, that would allow some of the data to be stored on a faster HDD instead of having to read from a 2x drive on every load.

VG Aficionado

To be honest, they should at least allow us to install the game menus and the cars, so that pretty much everything the system has to load from the disc are the tracks and it wouldn't require too much room. The cars on the HDD would be useful for both the selection and to speed up starting a race.

I don't care if they have to switch it to still images or video clips of the vehicles, as long as they do something.

Seriously man, what's the point of showing off PS3's graphics if you've got PSone load times?

venomv

I just got it yesterday, and the vehicle load times could seriously use some help.....

LaLiLuLeLo
09-04-2007, 06:49 PM
It could be stomached when the game first came out, but most games now at least have a cursory knowledge of how the PS3 works best and load times are fairly reasonable. The load times for just selecting vehicles should be non-existent, or extremely minimal. Like, a split second. Not 4 or 5.

It's ridiculous and insulting.

Frosty, send the guys at evolution a message. For real.

5 seconds? More like 10-15, at least when loading the first car, since it also has to load the background environment.

It's horrible!

Did it shorten loading times, or is this just to prepare for more micro-transactions?

I've passed along the suggestions I made earlier in the thread about reducing vehicle selection load times to Simon Benson. He's a really nice guy and has always made his best effort to reply, so hopefully we'll see a patch soon that will remedy this issue.

^ Not to sound negative, but I'm sure you are not the first to tell them the loading times suck... It would be great if an update could address this, but I have the feeling we will have to wait for Motostorm 2.
*I hope I'm proven wrong...*

I was talking with some members of our forum about the new patch, and I haven't had the opportunity to download it yet but some members wanted me to pass something along to you that would be very easy to do and would make Motorstorm a hell of a lot more fun to play. The thing that really gets them is the amount of time it takes for vehicles to load at the selection screen. It really lags the game down badly. So, if you guys could either allow us to install that particular selection screen to the HDD, or alternately switch the vehicle selection screen from a real time scene to a still image or video clip of the vehicle instead, it would make the game flow a whole lot more smoothly (especially online matches). Installing to the HDD would probably have to be mandatory though, since users that opted not to do it would take longer to load in an online match. So, the image/video approach may be a bit better. Either way, it's really the only flaw the game has left in my opinion... and it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to remedy. Don't get me wrong, the selection screen looks awesome, but the amount of time we have to wait to see it kinda takes away from it's appeal.

Thanks for an awesome experience with Motorstorm, and keep up the good work. Hope all is going well for you guys.

Hi Dustin,

Thanks for your input. In the new patch, we have spent some time addressing the point that you mention. The new functionality remembers the last vehicle you selected on the vehicle select screen so that you no longer have to flick through the vehicles to get to the one you want repeatedly – this should speed up the process of getting into game, but also make the starting grids more interesting as there should be fewer people just choosing the first vehicle in the list to save time. This change also makes it practical for us to remove the vehicle selection form the online flow in the future if that seems appropriate (or make it optional) as the vehicle can technically be predefined before play.

It's good to hear they will try some out of the box approaches to address this issue, because I agree it slows the online game experience...

I'm curious why the game only list such a small number of players online.
I logged on today and only about 150 people are listed as playing online...
I would imagine there's got to be at least a 1000 players at any given time.
*Based on the number of copies sold...*

I'm hoping it also solves the HDMI issue i'm having once i downloaded the 1.2 patch. The screen just freezes. It's been happening after i just downloaded the the 1.2 patch. And my cousin played Motorstorm once. http://forums.e-mpire.com/showthread.php?t=77809.

Same problem is occuring when i downloaded Folklore and wanted to install it and with DIRT. Before that there weren't any problems. I just wish i could delete the 1.2 patch somewhere.

The screen just stands still, when trying to turn it off and back on you don't see anything on screen or hear anything. The 10 seconds hold power button trick only works after i turn the power off and no kabels attached to the PS3 for 1h.

You can. The patch is saved on the PS3 HDD, and can be deleted by finding the file name "Motorstorm" under "Game Data" in the "Game" menu in the XMB.

Did it get stuck downloading or installing?

frosty
09-09-2007, 04:23 AM
yeah, whether it's downloading the update or actually installing it is important to know. if it's stuck at 8% on the download then it's just network trouble, but if it's during the install then there are problems that need repair. take it back and get another one if that is the case. try to install it from a usb stick if it's stuck on the download.

Hello all,

The 3.0 client update will be available for download tomorrow 25th October. To download it, please boot MotorStorm from the Blu-Ray disk, select ’Online’ from the main menu, select an appropriate game universe and install the update when prompted to do so.

MotorStorm Update 3.0 provides the following changes;

* Added vibration support for DUALSHOCK 3 controller with adjustable sensitivity settings.
* Grid order has been randomised for first race in any online lobby.
* Finishing positions in your last race now determine your starting grid position in the next race within the same online lobby.
* On-screen indicator has been added to show whether voice comms are issuing from TV or headset – As before, please press and hold L1 (R1 if using control scheme ‘B’) to toggle headset output through TV or Headset.
* Sensitivity Settings for SIXAXIS™ Motion Sensor control have been added.
* ‘Gloating Index’ has been added to the Stats card – The Gloating index gives guidance as to a racer’s online prowess. It takes into account the number of people you’ve beaten in each race and the number of people that have beaten you. Use the gloating index to spot the players to beat in each race! Try and rank your Gloating Index up to the perfect ‘10’!
* Several causes for an occasional snagging issue which would destroy vehicles on suspension impact have been addressed.
* Further fixes to prevent the occasional statistics reset issue have been applied.
* Fixed an occasional issue with inaccuracies in Eliminator finishing results.
* Fixed an issue where winners leaving Eliminator before race completed could cause issues for other players in lobby.

Thanks a lot,
Lestrade

New MotorStorm Vehicles Out Today

+ Posted by Felice Standifer // Sr. US Producer for MotorStorm

bigrig

Hey MotorStorm fans! Are you ready for more high-octane content? Drive on over to the PSN Store later today and check out the latest vehicles and skins from our hard-working friends at Evolution Studios. The new pack available includes two new vehicles - The Mohawk Roadhog Bike and The Lunar-Tec Buffalo BigRig, both with three different paint jobs. Two new skins, QuickFoot and Crazy Samurai, are included in the pack and will allow you to place a new skin on any or all of the seven different vehicle classes in MotorStorm. The pack will cost $1.99.

And for those of you who haven’t checked out the Devil’s Weekend downloadable content that was made available earlier this month, it is worth clarifying it includes the Devil’s Crossing, which is a brand spanking new track for fans to race. In fact, it is the biggest track available yet for MotorStorm and we foresee quite a bit of bone-crunching action online as well. Oh yeah, we also included a brand new music track that’ll fit right in to the game, keeping racers on edge as they look for their next victim to destroy.

We hope you enjoy your new rides and skins, and please check back in the near future for more exciting new content for MotorStorm. Until then, survive the off-road!
