Tri-Ace Reveal Star Ocean 4 Details
No word yet which console it's headed.
By Yoshi Sato, 09/05/2007
The latest issue of Japanese publication Famitsu reveal new details on Star Ocean 4, the latest iteration of Tri-Ace's epic RPG series.
The game will take place in the same universe featuring characters and races related to the previous titles. This time, players will helm an exploration spaceship so it seems you have a certain degree of freedom going to different places. "In the previous games, the story pretty much progressed due to a chain reaction of events. Your ship crashes and so you were forced to explore that planet, then get rescued later and so forth. But in SO4, we made it possible for players to travel and explore different parts of the universe." says assistant producer Hajime Kojima.
The developers also revealed the main character, Edge Maverick, and the heroine, Reimi. They are childhood friends and both crew member of the spaceship of an organization. The battle system will play differently but will be an evolved version from Star Ocean 3. This time, up to 4 members can join the battle.
Unfortunately, it is still a mystery as to which console the title is headed. Kojima only referred to it as "game console(s) that can display beautiful graphics." So is it the PS3 or 360 or both? Hopefully we'll find the answer in the upcoming Tokyo Game Show.

This must be a different Kojima, given that it's Tri-Ace we're talking here.

I have Star Ocean Till The End of Time, but I haven't played through it yet. What are the titles of the others? What systems did they release on? How could I find them now? Are they going to be rereleased in the future or should I search ebay for them? If somebody could PM me the answers to my questions I'd greatly appreciate it and give, of course, +rep. Thanks.

Star Ocean 2 - The Second Story is for PS1. Star Ocean 1 is for SNES, you can save the rep lol, don't need to.

Is it worth checking these games out on their psp release i.e were they any good?

Second Story is usually known as the best in the series and Star Ocean 1 was never released in the US to my knowledge.
Sounds like a good couple of games 2 pick up on psp.

thanks then. I'll have to at least ebay the second and pray the first comes out on the Wii. I doubt that will happen though.

if you own a psp and like so3 you would be crazy to miss out on the remakes. so2 is an incredibly charming game - greater than so3 in every way but for battle system (in my opinion obviously)

apparently they changed the battle system to be more like 3's.
in the remake i mean.

next-gen.biz is taking the information from Famitsu and have some of the information is wrong for the recent reporting from Famitsu. Don't count the chickens just yet.

Oh, so they are remaking the first two titles on PSP? I'll just wait for that to come. Does anybody have an idea when these remakes are supposedly making their release?

IGN is posting this in the PS3 section (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/818/818551p1.html) as well.
Not that anything has been explicitly announced yet, but if it's going to only one platform, all signs point at PS3 right now.

Shortly thereafter the message was however changed and the PS3 as platform was removed. It is unclear whether it concerned an error or was already communicated by mistake the goal platform - Square Enix did not express itself so far for this -.http://www.google.es/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamefront.de%2F&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=es&ie=UTF8 (http://www.google.es/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamefront.de%2F&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=es&ie=UTF8)
Well, it looks like it's a given. I'd be surprised if it didn't end up on PS3.

Well I don't think it's going to Wii, so PS3 is the only plausible choice.
No one realizes that it's the RPGs that sold PS2. Once they start rolling in, PS3 will do just fine.

Joe the battle system has always been sort of like 3's. There have been evolutions like anti-attack auras and strong a weak attacks but other then going more 3rd with each installment till 3 was fully 3d that was about it. Other then obvious AI improvements.
