The latest chapter in the Final Fantasy VII saga is almost at hand over in Japan. Just in time's for Crisis Core's 9/13 release, the editors of Famitsu managed to gather executive producer Yoshinori Kitase, producer Hideki Imaizumi, director Hajime Tabata, and character designer Tetsuya Nomura for an interview touching upon all areas of Crisis Core's development, and possible future developments from the staff members.

On the topic of Crisis Core, Tabata disclosed just how huge the game is, noting that it almost fills up a full UMD-ROM. He feels that the game is well balanced so that players of all level will be able to clear it. However, advanced players can look forward to over 300 missions outside of the main storyline. These are tough, but players can get a bit of extra help on their second time through, as the game lets you start a new game with your past character data.

A bit of trivia for those interested in how Crisis Core came about. Tabata disclosed that the project originally began with the idea of making a port of Before Crisis, the mobile entry in the Compilation series. Before Crisis (as well as Final Fantasy Agito XIII) are Tabata's projects, so Kitase approached him with the idea. Brought into the discussion, Nomura suggested instead that they make something with more meaning to the Compilation, and so was born the idea of making a game about a soldier who'd previously not been addressed in the Compilation, Zack. This entire decision process took just two days, Kitase joked.

Outside of Crisis Core, Famitsu editors asked about new developments in the Compilation series, noting that players are hoping for a FFVII remake. Yes, questions about a remake of FFVII are required whenever interviewing Nomura and Kitase.

Tabata avoided the remake issue entirely, instead pointing out that Square Enix will be distributing a new episode of Before Crisis for mobile players simultaneously with the Crisis Core release. This episode features Reno as the main character.

A remake of FFVII is a question of timing, Imaizumi said, noting that Kitase, Nomura and Tabata are all busy with the Final Fantasy XIII series. He added that a new game of some form will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show. We're not sure if he's referring to a new game in the FFXIII series or a general new title from Kitase, Nomura and Tabata. Either way, we're already excited.

This new title appears to be separate from the new Kingdom Hearts project that Tetsuya Nomura has previously confirmed for a TGS unveiling. Asked about the announcement, Nomura simply asked readers to look forward to it.

Imaizumi closed off by confirming once again that there are currently no plans for a FFVII remake. However, he noted that this could change rather quick, alluding to Kitase's comment about how the decision to make Crisis Core took only two days.

I don't think they'll announce the remake, at all. They'll just focus on FFXIII for now, as it's probably going to take them one or two more years to complete. VII's remake would require precious resources and if the XIII team can't rely on them, the result will just be delays for everything PS3 from Square Enix.

I could care less for a Final Fantasy VII remake at the moment.

An MMORPG would definitely break the dry spell we're having. Especially considering the Playstation 3 MMORPG Endless Saga [ironic] was cancelled shortly after it was revealed, and was the only glimmer of light when it came to getting your MMO fix.

Square Enix [almost] never disappoints! :)

If a remake is due to be announced for the PS3 in the near future, I want Square/Enix to have a couple of games under their belt before developement begins. Experience developing on this console for Square/Enix will help greatly in making a FFVII remake as successful and rewarding as possible, not only for developers closely tied to the series itself but for gamers in a similar situation.

I can't say I really care about a FFVII remake... VII was great then, and it's still great -- I have no problem playing it even though it is 10 years old. Also, I'm really digging FFXII and FFXIII (both of 'em) look awesome. If they're on such a good creative streak, I don't wanna see them go back and do a remake of something we can already play and experience when they're kicking ass at making new stuff :)

I think that new mystery game yet to be unveiled is Star Ocean 4, which I'm guessing SE is publishing.

The hype train has now reached full speed with the latest issue of Famitsu, a popular Japanese gaming magazine, hinting at a possible Final Fantasy VII remake.

From the translation, Famitsu states, "A third party game that will save the PlayStation 3 in Japan is to be announced tomorrow."

With all the recent rumors hitting the net lately, we can only assume they are talking about Square Enix and Final Fantasy VII (Whether or not the speculated Endless Crisis: Final Fantasy VII reported yesterday is a separate project or not is unknown, though it may simply just be the full title for a proposed remake)

Also, according to rumor, the Square Enix-developed project is being fully funded by Sony Computer Entertainment.

So keep your eyes and your ears peeled at the Tokyo Game Show is about to begin. Stay tuned to PSU for all your Tokyo Game Show updates.

According to Jeux-France and 2ch, Square Enix will be showing a selection of new titles at the Tokyo Game Show later this week, including Star Ocean 4, Kingdom Hearts, and Endless Crisis: Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 3.

Here is the rumored list of titles to make an appearance:

- Endless Crisis: Final Fantasy VII (PlayStation 3)
- Final Fantasy XIII (PlayStation 3)
- Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PlayStation 3)
- Kingdom Hearts (working title) (PlayStation 3)

No VII announcement at all. not even with this 'edless crisis" thing. no remake news. Not even a whisper on VII at TGS :(

and no SO4 news except they showed a trailer. But still no word on what console it'll be on.

Closed doors for FFXIII so we still have nothing new on that.

KZ2 didnt show up at all.

Biggest news was rumble, MS2 and home delayed. and the only good things to come of it were short gameplay clips of some games and a new MGS4 and DMC4 trailer.

SE are really starting to get on my nerve with their secrecy shit. It's doing nothing but pissing a whole bunch of gamers off.
