It definately didn't make it to the German PSN today, and actually, Germany is the biggest football country in the world (I know, the brits beg to differ, but get your facts straight :D, but I couldn't care less about soccer)

Since the ball touches your foot 99% of the time, I'd say it makes perfect sense to call it FOOTBALL. I never understood why American's referred to their watered down Rugby game as Football. In fact, I'm about to Wiki it right now!

LaLiLuLeLo

the games are cousins that both evolved from rugby.

But yeah I never understood it either. Haha.

well i don't think it's 99% of time but if you touche the ball it should be your foot.
so yeah football makes more sense than soccer.
and american football is just like master chief :)

Gentlemen, I didn't do this (http://forums.e-mpire.com/showpost.php?p=1551693&postcount=22) post a few weeks back for nothing.

So no, real football/soccer ISN'T DERIVER FROM RUGBY. Learn your facts :)

Some sites say that the soccer was born in China in 2600BC, others say it was the Mayan/Aztecs who kicked the heads of their enemies in game of football. Anyhoo it was early on distinguished as a real skill to only use your foot to carry the ball / head / whatever round available.

And yes, it's stupid to be anal about this because I don't watch/like football that much either :P

That's largely because of the very strict offside rules, they strip the most excitement out of the game for me.

I mean, c'mon, a guy who is quick and swift can't actually use that ability that much because the other team usually makes an offside trap for him anyway.

well quick guy has to think and watch what defenders do.
it just adds to the gameplay.
besides
the lack of offsides would be much worse.
there could be one guy or even more standing all the time in oponnents goal.
and they don't even have to be quick then.

its been delayed in EU......

EA has confirmed that the FIFA 08 demo, due out on PlayStation Store today, has been delayed in Europe and Australia

The news came in the form of a message board post on the official forums:

"We're sorry to have to tell everyone that the FIFA 08 demo won't be launching in Europe today as was expected. Although the demo is being released in North America there were a couple of issues which we couldn't get ironed out in time to release today despite working through out the night to get these sorted."

Those of you in North America can download the demo right now. It features seven playable teams including AC Milan, America, Barcelona, Bayern Munchen, Manchester United, Marseille and NY Red Bulls.

The demo has also been delayed on Xbox Live.

The popular football/soccer title is due to be released on October 9th in North America and September 28th in Europe, ironically where it's most popular.

I've played it guys (X360).

It has quite fast but 'solid' gameplay that keeps you on your toes and concentrating but suffers YET AGAIN from typical FIFA problems (at least they are problems to me).

-Choppy animations, breaking the flow of the game.
-Defending is hard as sometimes as people ten to go 'through you' (again, i think this is animation related).
-The keeper keeps doing that same one handed flying save.
- The ball is 'stuck' to your players. I know they advertised for ages about how free it was...Well, I'm sorry, it just isn't.
You can't for example slide tackle as someone is pulling back their leg to stop them shooting, he just has to finish the shot as the ball is "stuck" to him (again, animation related? lol).

It's definitely a playable game though but I didn't enjoy my time with it.

I said it last week while playing x360 and I'll say it again, Using analogue for football annoys the hell out of me - I always pass to the wrong player using analogue for some reason. :( I hate change

I know people who are buying a PS3 along with PES just because of the D-pad option which is the way pros play.

I've never seen a good player using analogue on a PS pad with PES.

Right, without the elitist attitude regarding PES (Which I'll be buying) I think that FIFA 08 plays a decent game of Football. I've been hearing reports of awful graphics but they're just soild in my opinion. I've noticed slight slow down issues in close-up's, in the tunnel before they come out on to the pitch and it can be quite weird as the game itself is fairly fluid.

I think the people downplaying the graphics are the guys who believe that EA are constantly fucking the Playstation 3 over with shoddy ports. Even if they try to take a step in the right direction, they're still blasted for it.

The loading times are great and I like the fact you can still have a one on one while you're waiting for a game to load up.

Sephiroth_VII
09-14-2007, 09:57 AM
Remember that the demo is loading from the HDD, which probably won't be the case with the full game.

Whoa... I played the demo yesterday and what do I see??

Crappy framerates where the least of the problem. The graphics are BAD for an 7th generation console game, that it isn't funny anymore. I mean... I don't even know where to start. The animations suck (they are on par with Fifa 98, which I still have here in my drawer), the replays look bad and ... I don't know...

When I started the game, the sound just "exploded". While the players started to walk onto the green, the sound just reverbed like hell (my average volume is about 30, but this was MUCH TOO loud) (I cannot say what happened, I sounded like a mic feedback, but my headset was switched off).

And how the fuck does this game determine which player I need to be? I know, right analogue stick and such, but what does the game do??

Man, this sucks BIG TIME! NHL is much better (although the controls are very different from the old ones, framerate is also chuggy as hell)

This whole ON-RAILS thing in FIFA 08 is getting to me now.

Just conceded 2 goals because of this! (Playing as Barca v Man U)

1. Ronaldinho loses the ball near to his own penalty spot and the ball rolls slowly towards the touch line, I can't chase the ball because he's too busy standing with his hands on his hips looking up at the sky. Finally manage to switch to the player I weant and end up giving a free kick away, C Ronaldo floats a ball into the bottom left and the keeper just stands there, no dive or anything.

2. Keeper this time, ball comes over (coulda swore it was offside), Giggs chests it down on the goal kick line, for some reason my keeper walks off his line with his hand on his hips looking at the floor and Man U score.

Where it's a bug or what I don't know, certainly something stupid animation-wise. Scoring more now, last two goals were volleys, shots off the fllor seem to go wide on me most times, but volleys are always bang on target.

I'll be getting PES 2008

I dunno Fazares.
I don't think fifa is all that revolutionary. I haven't really played it since fifa 98 - i had a few games on 04 but thats about it. The first thing I realised was that it was basically the same controls as pro evo but with square and circle switched which has never been my experience with fifa. I was suprised to see cancel in the button options, one of the greatest things about pro evo - the super cancel, though I'm not sure it works in the same way in fifa.
I don't see fifa as having done anything new in the slightest. [EDIT - aside from first touch of course, but thing since sliced bread - life saver] They caught up a bit with pro evo in terms of controls and what you can do with your player. They improved the graphics. They added some cool effects, I like the way shots look in fifa over pro evo sometimes but its nothing special.
And I'm not going to lie. Pes hasn't done anything special either. TBH I prefered the shots in Pes 3 to all those after it

I think the biggest difference between fifa and pro is that when people get a new fifa they say, this this and this is different.
When people get a new pro evo they say, this feels different.

To close neither have done anything special but pro started off better to begin with.

PES plays differen every game

PES4 - Fast, made attacking easy, defending tough although the linear referees made tackling from most direction allowable.

PES5 - Slow and 'steady', annoying referees but this gave much more depth and the 'heavy' feel to the game meant you had to think more about how you attacked and indeed, how you defended (no more Holding X and getting the ball easily).

PES6 - This was a pretty good balance but the game is too attack minded with the AI being too defensive minded which make games against AI a chore sometimes (they pass in their back four for about 10 minutes!).

PES series doesn't evolve, it acts differently with every outing but whatever it does, it does great assuring that every kind of football fans gets their taste.

hmm u didnt understand....this small evolution is right when we r talking about games coming out of a ps2...but when u talk about a next gen game...the leap should be bigger...do u remember how we4 compared to we5?
...my thoughts?...as long as konami will release the next gen versions along the old ones....then they will keep using the current gen versions engine as basis...for the next gen ones as well...it reminds me about konami doing the same on the psx....when this console wasnt still mainstream...they just released iss deluxe(snes) with slightly better gfx...when the ps3 will be mainstream they will quit developing on ps2 and will focus on a real next gen pes...
games such as nba2k7 ps3 already proved that sports games can look and have way better physics than the ps2 counterpart...
i cant believe the ball still behaves the same way it did on the ps2 games...when a game such as motorstorm already proved that physics can be so much more advanced than the ps2 games ones...and looking at fifa08,gfx konami must update its gfx engine....fifa players already looks uncanney valley stuff just like nba2k8,nba live 08,fn3,top spin3..etc...(u can check the fifa 08 pic in the 2nd page of this thread)

ahah...u can see that by just looking at how the ball behaves....and the animation is still stuck in the ps2 era....btw...if u ever played we4(ps1) and then we5(ps2)...u should know what a next gen leap is all about..dont u...?
and fifa 08 looks way better..thats undeniable... go check page 2....:-)

well i have played demo and i haven't seen that close-ups
and when there were close-ups before the match the frame rate was just unaceptablle for me.
so what is this shit ? engine can make nice looking face but in shitty framerate and
i won't be seeing it anyway :)

and you want to tell me that ball in fifa08 is acting better ? nex gen better than pes8 ?
it's actually worse than pes6 on ps2 for me.
anyway ps2 era animation...
for me ps2 pes6 animation is way better than this fifa demo.
it's more fluid and it seems that there is like 1000000000 more animations.
i don't really know what would make for you next gen pes ?
and do even you know it ?

haha...u will probably see in time for pes2009 or 2010...when konami will get rid of the current gen stuff and develope a new engine as they did with we5/pes1
btw ur acting just as bad as those fifa fanboys that thought fifa98 was way better than we3/iss98...
worse the pes6 on ps2..lol....sure ,fanboy...:-)

I've been playing PES6 frequently since launch and I still see new animations (just the other day I saw the keeper chase the ball over the bar and then hang on the bar, swing and jump down).

Also I saw a really nice cut-scene where a keeper made a good save and the players went over to tap on the shoulder to congratulate.

The only thing new I saw on FIFA08 demo was that the players now collide and fall.....Which just makes for a funny looking game (one time three players tangled up and fell/ got up and fell for about 3 seconds lol) than a realistic one.
However not much collision detection when someone is running with the ball (see Post #23).

lol...pes6 is the best currrent gen football game.....
fifa08 has a lot of collisions...and looks harder to score compared to any currrent gen game...its hard to even shoot at all sometime....just like a real next gen game...

FIFA World Cup Kicks Off On PS3
EA slaps Konami in the face

While international footy in the world of solid 3D fleshy things is proving pretty depressing (unless you come from a country that can actually play the game), the FIFA Interactive World Cup is getting nicely under way.

Since the PlayStation 3 exclusive event kicked off last month, an impressive 10,000 players from 25 countries have begun kicking it out over the PlayStation Network. This month, things have moved on to the first live qualifying events in Denmark, the Netherlands and Hungary.

"The FIFA Interactive World Cup is a fantastic opportunity for all football fans to show off their skills and passion for the sport with FIFA 08", said Barcelona has-been, Ronaldinho. "It is a great tournament in which you have to train and work hard to succeed – just like in real football, so I invite all fans to register and enjoy this party of interactive football."

I was at the qualification for the qualification(lol) last weekend, and it was funny to see so much passion directed at a genre which holds no interest for me :)

So why is EA kicking Konami in the face? lol

PES08 sold more than FIFA in case they didn't know.
Holding a tournament doesn't mean you kciked a competition in the face.
And PES tournaments are much more popular.

Some article titles :duh:

I was at a LAN party once with a friend (I didn't know that many people there, but I was a great ~5yrs older than anyone, except the big brother of the one who rented the site)... It was Counterstrike time (back when 0.6 was new^^) and we (the older ones, 5 people) vs. the youngsters, won every single game (against 10 people). Man they were pissed^^ I mean REALLY pissed!

There are just some people who cannot lose (I just don't care, but I am happy when I win).
