Playing Halo 3 early will get you banned! (http://xboxevolved.e-mpire.com/article/Halo_3/4102.html)
A user, after playing his early Halo 3 copy, was banned from Xbox Live for an indefinite time.

this is heavy...
"Weight has nothing to do with it."
Sucks to be him depending on how long the ban is.

Well, from what I've read, only that account (scar) has been banned, not his IP, or physical address, etc. He has a couple of other accounts that are still working. Who knows if MS will release this account, we'll see.

Do you know this person personally?
It would depend on how he got the copy I guess.

Boy, aren't you a cynical one. Actually, he (supposedly) posted the following response on a xboxic forum: Xbox Forum Post By Scar (http://forum.xboxic.com/showpost.php?p=54392&postcount=20)
its only a ban on the console/gamertag you played it on, i personally have 4 360s and my dad has one of his own, all of which work fine online, and yes, i can easily sign up for a new tag under the same address and name and IP.
The Halo 3 Epsilon test is not unsigned... im sure you read the story where a woman that works at MS got he son the epsilon then a couple guys stole his account and did the second profile glitch to get the beta off him, well they let some people do it then it blossomed into a good 100 people glitching into it, and i was one of them.

please don't post joystiq links here -- their reputation has been tarnished and much of the gaming community relates them to sp0ng

Cynical?
Yes I might be lol but in this case I was just asking if you knew him.
But yeah interesting scenario, keep us updated on his posts.
But he doesn't mention if he appealed the decision or not (probably did)?

hmmmm that sucks for him, guess that shows you you shouldnt glitch or cheat to get into a very very closed and exclusive beta.

That is lame, lets punish someone for playing a video game a little earlier than the rest of us. It wasn't like he got caught uploading it to a P2P network, come on Microsoft what the hell.

Halo 3 is a very serious videogame. If I was on the staff, I'd be happy to know that someone was banned for illegally obtaining a copy of my game 2 weeks before release.
The simple solution would be to not play the game while connected to Live. This guy could've easily avoided being detected.
Oh well.

I think people are too uptight, to be banned indefinitely for playing early haha that is ridiculous.

Id be excited if people wanted to play my game so bad they would risk getting caught.

= appearing offline wouldnt have done anything, the whole time i was playing there was debug text running in the right corner and also the text in the bottom middle saying when i logged in and what my GT was. even if i appeared offline they would have still seen that.
Its the Epsilon, you cant play anything offline.
