our dear friend lalilulelo has suffered the ultimate loss, his ps3 was stolen during a break in amongst other things. This gave me the idea to start this thread should this ever happen to any of you. Take down the serial number of your ps3, but ALSO take down it's mac address. This way if it ever tries to get online it can be traced. Keep these things in a hidden safe spot. They will aid in getting your system back should you ever have to suffer the same fate.

I'm thinking about starting a "get lali a new PS3" fund, who's with me? I'll chip in the first $100 to get it started if there's enough support.

Shit, thanks for the tip.
I hope for LaLi that the stolen stuff was nothing "importand" or really expensive (amongst the PS3).

Sorry for the loss and all, but are you serious Frosty? Perhaps you should start a fund for the people who never got their winning PS3's...

frosty
09-10-2007, 02:53 PM
well, his paycheck also IIRC. sucks really. wish there were more I could do to lend a hand, but i'm not rich or anything, lol.

and I only mentioned starting the fund because lali reviews for us, and does a damn fine job of it on that ps3 he had. But, I'm open to your suggestion as well, haha.

Oh, that totally sucks. I wonder if he can get the MAC address from the documentation that came with the system, or whether he can contact Sony, give them his account details and let them trace the MAC address, as they should have it.

I'm not sure how much I could contribute with for a new system for him, but I'll be willing to help as soon as more people want to put some money down for it.

^hahahaha..... not funny. lol....wait... uh... yeah.

perhaps lali's ps3 fund can just be an internal staff thing, who knows. i'll pitch a few bucks towards the cause though. not saying we gotta buy him a new one, but maybe just offer a little help.

I am very much enjoying my new Playstation 3.

. . .

The didn't even take any games (except fucking Warhawk) or controllers. My tv and hdmi cable, ethernet cable are still here. They stole my camera and my roommates' cameras, my roommates' ps2 and psp, some of my backpacks, my laptop....god it's fucking frustrating, they took one of my backpacks, the one I used over the weekend which had 400 dollars in cash in it (in my bank envelope).

Our renter is getting bolt locks on all the room doors (inside the house) and possibly bars on the kitchen window (that's the only way they could have gotten in and Chris said it was open when we got home).

Oh shit man, that's a loss.

If you used a (good^^) router, your logfiles should spit out your mac address (mine does, my router does mac address filtering too, security is mandatory). What else could be said? The S/N should be on PSU, if you registered there, so contact Sony too to tell them.

Man, why is crime such a bitch? And why are there people doing it... This is soo sad!

Sephiroth_VII
09-10-2007, 05:31 PM
That's a good idea. The police should be able to track them that way.

09-10-2007, 05:37 PM
Yeah, maybe they can be tracked in some such way. Just glad to see you're okay man, that's the most important thing!

Holy fuck man I hope that wasn't the laptop with your work on it.

Sorry to hear this Lalil...etc...And I hope you get your belongings back.

Man looking at what you lost, the PS3 would be the last thing on my mind.

Does this happen often around your area?
Are the thieves ever found?

Even his ISP should be able to keep track of it, but I don't think he'd have access to this information in this case.

Sorry to hear about your loss Lali. I wish they find the culprit behind this and get your stuff back asap.

Carlos
09-10-2007, 06:41 PM
You, one of your friends, or a roommate brought in a person they shouldn't trust the slightest. So, start with one of your roommates, ask them if they brought anyone in that YOU didn't know.

Stuff that was yours, and your roommates were only stolen. So it must be in your social circle.

LaLiLuLeLo
09-10-2007, 06:43 PM
Couldn't have been. Chris doesn't have any friends to bring over. New or old.
Sean doesn't either aside from his girlfriend. We're sure they broke in earlier, scouted the place, and then came back last night with a general idea. Sean's room actually looked disturbed but mine wasn't at all. So there was probably 2 of them because they were sloppy about some things but selective about others (all 3 of our cameras).

Carlos
09-10-2007, 06:47 PM
How about you? Bulglaries happen because either what you just said, or you (or your mates) pissed off the wrong person. Most bulglaries are done by those who KNOW the place, so that's why I made the suggestions. If I were you, I'd have my windows' cloth down, so no one can see anything. Keep everything LOCKED.

Your manager should get the windows replaced with lockable windows as well.

LaLiLuLeLo
09-10-2007, 06:51 PM
the windows are lockable, but the kitchen window was unlocked. It was open when we got back. They scaled the back wall (there's fencing that'd make it possible, only way in, front door deadbolted, back doors locked and barricaded. We're getting dead bolts on our room doors and possibly bars on our kitchen window. It's pretty damn frustrating. I don't bring over anyone who could have pulled that shit off, and besides I was gone all weekend anyway, it just happened in the span of two hours, so they had to know we left the place.

Carlos
09-10-2007, 06:54 PM
Well, see. THEY knew you left the place.

LaLiLuLeLo
09-10-2007, 06:58 PM
yeah, but it couldn't have been anyone we knew. someone was waiting for an opening.

Can't you ask as any reviewing site for a PS3 from Sony?
Anyway sorry for your loss, if there's a PAYPAL kind of thing i'd be willing to donate.

I just lost my tomtom go 300 last week, they broke out the window of my car. I was gone for about 10mins.

It so might've been some idiot you knew told someone else or something was overheard in a conversation where people were chilling and some douchebags got the stupid idea of stealing your stuff.

No reason to point fingers is all and talk to not so close friends about too much detail with them about what you think may have happened (on how the people found out).. hopefully the guys meant to handle this kind of stuff will be able to get these punks.

Just tell the police (I dunno if they've interviewed you yet) what you think will be important, especially the thing that you think someone was waiting for an opening and might've talked to someone you knew or had even been over.

LaLiLuLeLo
09-10-2007, 07:20 PM
well it really doesn't matter at this point, the shit probably won't be found. I just have to move forward from here. Which is hard because they also stole 400 dollars and I don't get paid for another 2 weeks.

I was wondering why you hadn't accepted my friend invite by now you bastard!

If you're going to go inspect a neighbor's house if you suspect they could be the culprit, you may want to do it as tactfully as possible. Go Metal Gear on them!

The thing about tracking down the mac addy, etc is that if the person who stole it sells it to some person who DOESNT know its stolen, like perhaps a friend that doesnt know his friend steals, you may end up catching the wrong guy. It might lead back to him if you follow the trail, but it might just lead to nowhere.

Its a good idea non the less though.

I think they had a detective come by today, I'm sure lali will updae when he returns from work.

Shit dude, sorry to hear that.

Was Warhawk in the PS3 at the time?

Sadly, yes it was. Thankfully none of his other games/movies were touched, and his PSP is similarly unviolated.

Considering the burglars also took some big knives from the kitchen, I'm going to continue to say to Lali that it's probably better you guys weren't home at the time. They also took his roomate's paycheck, and my hope is that they're stupid enough to get themselves caught trying to cash the thing.

i'll write down my MAC address and stuff too. or put it in a txt file and up it to my server for safe keepiong. thanks for the tip.

i know this is self-promoting, but i promise i say this in the interest of La: regarding a fund to buy him a new ps3, if 13 people want to sign up at my website, gaming.somethin4nothin.com, we could get him a new one at a cost of less than $5 for each of us.
if there's interest in this i'll set up an account for him, post the link, and explain it. basically tho if all the 13 people sign up, and then sign up for one of my sponsor's trial offers (which cost from $0-$10, depending on what you pick), it'll generate $600 in revenue and i'll order him a new system.
