Codemasters finally released the first imags of Race Driver One, the follow-up of the excellent Toca games on last gen consoles. It certainly does look good, but I'll take these images with a grain of salt considering Codemasters' habit to use renders with the Toca series.

Screams CG stuff to me. And last time I checked, the initial screenshots released for DIRT were also bullshots. Take it with grain of salt yea :shrug:

But you know what gives it away?

The crowd. They aren't cardboard cutouts for a game that looks this good. Color me astonished if this turns out to be actual in-game realtime stuff.

That looks nothing like real gameplay or replays, but it still looks cool. We'll see.

Hmmm.... dont know what to say.
On one side it looks great, but then the first DIRT screens where faked too.
Lets wait and see.

EDIT: Same problem as DiRt, too much HDR.
Agree, its to stylized unlike GT with a realistic look.

That looks really awesome though, if the game looks like that screen with the HUD, I'm definitely in.

^Defo wait and see, I don't like how Dirt looks at all, but the screens they started with and released looked astounding.

This is NOT what the game will look like, I am sure of it.

Either this is the PC version running on a 8core SLI system (Race gets a PC version always, doesn't it), or they did it again like with Dirt. I am tending to the former. There's stuff in it (the horserider) which look rather bad (which it should't in an offline render).

It would suck if they actually used CG and put in a bogus HUD to make the shot look like ingame... If they actually did something that shady they deserve any negative feedback once real footage is shown. I will take them for their word and consider this one shot actual gameplay...

Honestly I don't really give a fuck...
The only racing title I'm interested in is GT5, but it's still shady to show CG with an ingame HUD. Now based on this info who is responsible for unrealistic expectations for gamers...

i dont think it will look that good, but i hope it looks better than DiRT as i think MS looks better than DiRT. it dont matter either way as this is the racer that im waiting for (over GT and all) thanks Yoshaw mate :)

Dude, CG bullshots or not, TOCA has always been ahead of the curve in gameplay for console racing sims. This game has my support regardless of what it looks like.

AFAIK they also implemented HUD's on some Dirt screens which turned out to be fake. Regardless, I'll be buying this game.

It doesn't matter. Many fans, similar to Nintendo fans--can't see past Gran Turismo due to it's name pedigree.

But if you ask me, this is better in some respects. At the very least, we know Codemasters won't rest on their laurels due to laziness and misguided ideals, unlike another popular racing game whose name shall not be mentioned. lol

Sometimes the idea of the superior underdog is more appealing.

Maybe, just maybe, because it is a good game? Most other racers, including Race Driver with its REALLY SUCKY STORY MODE just aren't for me. What I love from GT is, that they not only include Supercars (there are more than enough Supercar racing games out there), but slow ones like the old Audis Quattro, and old cars, also... like the Audi Quattro. This game also is not just about winning a race (that is what I hate about Race Driver), it is about driving. Even if you don't succeed, you still can play on and not race again and again the same freaking race till you drop.

Yes, this game looks good, but will it be fun? That is what my gripe is about. I always found the Race games to not be too much fun (because the game was too punishing for being 3rd in line)

Maybe some people just like GT more?

I loved Toca 1 too (is still one of my early racing experiences on the PC), but ever since Toca 3, for me, it went downhill FAST. Even prefer Race the WTCC more. The story modes in the Race games just... suck imho :D

Ahh i remember....
TOCA 2, cockpit view, no HUD, manual transmission, hardest difficulty and i won every race even with 11 years and that was not because the game is easy.
Unfortunatly i had no one to play against, just like with GT im just to good for my friends (theyre not so into racing games, online are for sure MANY people that are better than me).

If they put a HUD on a CG image then they don't deserve to sell a single game. That is just PATHETIC! I hate bullshots WITHOUT a HUD enough. Bullshots WITH a hud are simply unacceptable.

I haven't played TOCA since the PS1 days, but I remember it was really good fun.
I generally don't like city tracks in racing games (hated PGR3 :() so hopefully they have plenty of proper tracks.

I must say im really impressed with codies this year.

Jericho (my personal favourite i think this game looks sick)
Dirt (A very decent game)
Fall of liberty (interesting gameplay perspective using stealth and fps skills)
Race driver (looks good)
LMA Manager (Best Football manager game)
Overlord (this game was a real joy to play)

A real decent lineup this year!

Anyone know if Jericho is using the neon engine?

If they dont give a controller config option I definatley wont get it because I hate driving with triggers in sim games, I prefer to use the face buttons like in Gran Turismo.
