*Note, I will finish the single player campaign and post a "proper review" but this should suffice for now.
Being a really Playstation heavy gamer, I tend to be on the RPG/story driven side of things and rarely go for FPS..
However, a few like Resistance (story driven, well-paced) keep me interested. And Warhawk, automatic fun and pick-up and play has me hooked.
I know many will same, "you have to play the game" but I will just say I think I'm smart enough to analyze impressions, gameplay trailers, and features to know around how good a game will be.
Saying that, Gears of War is very pretty, but I have no doubts that Halo 3 will be overrated. However, not by much. And it will certainly be a better, more lasting experience than Gears.
The story ties into the game beautifully, the music is top quality, and presentation and production values are of course the top of the pack.
Bottom line, Halo 3 including Cod4/Unreal07/Haze/Warhawk will probably be the best online shooting experience this year. Is it because the gameplay is just so fantastic? Yes and No.
It's good, but it's the features that Bungie has incorporated that will literally keep this game going for years. The PS3/PC sharing in Unreal is cool, but Halo's is incorporated into the freakin game, and you can just record your favorite battles and replay them to your enjoyment.
I hate that X360 is unreliable, and I'm used to the free online of PS3. However, IMO Halo will be the pinnacle of online gaming this year unless some other titles add these amazing user/customization features to there games as well...
It's what so awesome about games like Singstar and Little Big Planet. It's why Home has so much potential. It's games like Brain Age and Echochrome that will define this generation. Getting more and more people connected. Through easy of use, through online, through amazing story-telling that many people can relate to, through personal customization. Halo has singlehandedly (like LBP will) delivered a part of Web 2.0. User generated content, giving the game a personal feel that only a few titles can offer.
Its what this gen is all about. It's why these online systems are really the next-generation of games. And despite MS unimpressive attempts of next-gen gaming. Halo is THE game that many PS3 owners would love to have in there own collection. I'm grateful that Sony has delivered some quality stuff so I won't mind not playing Halo whenever I want, but a great game deserves it's props.
Bravo MS for obtaining Bungie...
Kudos to Bungie..
