While I have to to finish this title I've made it far enough into the game and have played around with some of the other features to give a good enough opinion about what it has to offer.
Halo 3 Starts off where 2 left off and you are back in action in an instant. The game still contains that Halo feel and provides a level of difficulty that is ramped up just a little more then Halo 2 on Heroic and Legendary. Personally I've played all the Halos on Heroic. Easy and Normal are just too easy as most fans know.
GamePlay
Like I said above the difficulty is ramped up a few notches. But how so? Well the enemy AI is the best I've ever seen so far. For instance; the snipers, they'll shoot you once to get your shields down then take that second shot to cap you off for good. Even the grunts are far more aggressive this time around. These guys will peg you at first site and they will attack in large numbers. The Brutes are different some how in H3, they seem smarter and a bit more agile. If you piss them off they will come after you and attempt to maul you to death, no matter where on the map they are.
The physics in this game are half the fun, there is so much you can do with the right technique.
There are plenty of standard and new vehicles to use here each offering unique abilities and great fun. Same goes for weapons...wait 'till you get to try out the Gravity Hammer.....
The controls are just what you expect from this series. Accurate. Need I say more?
Graphics
This game is incredible. At first I was a little unsure about some visual aspects of this title. Jaggies are present, I won't lie. Overall this title is well balanced offering good physics, tons of enemy and ally activity at once and good sized maps. Slowdown does occur but not too much.
Games like Gears or Bioshock are truly incredible visual accomplishments. Halo 3 might not stand out quite like this but it's not far behind and considering what it offers and the amazing scenery etc. I'll give Bungie the nod here.
Sound
The music in this title is a mix of all the scores from the previous two before. Some new elements have been thrown in.The sound effects are spot on. Some gunshot sounds are a little on the quiet side compared to other shooters. The game is presented in 5.1 DD.
From what I've heard so far, the same voice cast has returned to their roles once again and it is top notch. The story and the way it is told is interesting and keeps you as the player interested.
Other Features:
I won't touch down on these much because I've had little time to get into it considering. There are 2 new modes here in Halo3
The Forge: Basically a level editor that lets you move items around a multi player map and manipulate how they react to one another or other players online.
Replay Mode: You can basically play through your mission or stop anywhere save and watch a replay up to that point. You can also unlock the camera position from the Chief and watch everything else that went on during your time in that mission. You can also watch the replay in slow motion and see just what the covey dooshbags looked like when you dropped that plasma grenade. I can't tell you how much fun it is to watch how the Covenant react and watch how they prepare for your attack. So try this out it's worth every minute.
My final word:
I was lucky enough to get an early copy but when it's finally time for release I won't be excited...kinda like opening all your gifts on Christmas Eve. I really like this title but it's kinda sad knowing this is the last in the series. I know there will be other stories to tell but this title represents a conclusion to a fantastic series. You will not be dissapointed
