Future US, Inc. has struck a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment America to publish the official sounding new publication: PlayStation: The Official Magazine. Future US already publishes numerous special interest magazines, including the Official Xbox Magazine, PC Gamer and Nintendo Power so readers needn't worry if they're up to the task of managing a gaming mag.

Future US will be overseeing the editorial and advertising sales for the magazine and their first issue will be the Holiday 2007 edition that will be released in late November. The company already had a long standing relationship with Sony prior to the arrangement: its parent company, Future plc, already publishes the Official Sony PlayStation Magazine for the UK.

To top off Future US's credentials with the gaming industry, we must remember that they also published the official show magazine for the E for All Expo last month. Rob Smith, the former editor-in-chief of PSM-Independent PlayStation Magazine, will be taking over the same position in Playstation: The Official Magazine. The magazine will start their circulation with 300,000 copies and will be delivering 13 issues per year.

So...why...its basically PSM...just official, unless demo disc are coming back >_>

I would renew, PSM is pretty cool, but now that i think about it, i really dont read these things. I just find out stuff on the internet maybe weeks or even months before its delivered to my house in that issue. I know its cuz they write the articles ahead of time, i guess theres no point.

huh, they just recently acquired the rights to publish nintendo power. they're kind of overstating their credentials by claiming that they publish NP in the PSM article and claiming that they publish PSM in their NP article.

Official magazines get exclusive media and 'hands on'.

I remember reading a Future published magazine that played Vice City on the PS2 whilst the internet was searching up it's ass for new media to show.

So magazines sometimes can get awesome exclusive looks but than it is rare and everyone just scans them on the internet anyway lol.

I don't know about Future US but Future UK is highly respected in my books so this should be a great magazine.
Not that I'll ever get it lol
Unless there is a disc with awesome content but then I'm not the kind of person that goes "gimme gimme!" so i'll probably wait a few weeks for the PSN version or something.

"The first issue will feature a MGS4 demo disc that will not be available on the PSN." will definately get people to buy it.

Future is garbage, these are the same gus that make PSM wich is the worst mag on the planet, also the addmited xbox fanboy that is editor in cheif of PSM will be editor in cheif of the new OPM. I'm sorry but any PlayStation only mag that gives the great Warhawk a 6.5 doesn't deserve to be read.

OPM was like, what, $50 dollars just for 12 issues? Get the fuck outta here, demo disc or not, thats steep. Since OXM still has disc and charges about $25 for 12 issues, im dying to see how much this will cost....

What does the console focus of the magazine have to do with what score it gives a game?

Being out of touch with its readers.

After all, their job is to help out their readers in the game jungle which really doesn't work if their tastes are in sharp contrast.

I'm just guesing, not really into gaming mags.

Because even the extremely critical EDGE gave Warhawk an 8, same as they gave BIOSHOCK, actually. 6.5 is way below par.

I don't buy brand-specific magazines, unless they have a demo I can't afford to miss. I find them way too biased.

I already have it(*and have had it for a week or two), and was a bit disappointed as the free poster was said to be Ratchet and Clank + Uncharted. Instead of one side being Uncharted they put Heavenly Sword on it. I really wanted the Uncharted poster. :-[

Hes been the editor in chief since the launch of PSM back in 97..unless theres a different editor and chief cause i haven't read a issue in a lil while.
