David F. Zucker, president and chief executive officer, commented, "While we regret that these delays will cause us to lose some valuable holiday sales in the near term as well as shift revenue for some of these titles out of 2007 and into 2008, we remain confident that our technology strategy and product plan position us to grow both revenue and market share as we move into the heart of this console cycle. Looking ahead to 2008, with our core technology platform now in place, we expect to release a number of titles, including already announced console versions of Unreal Tournament 3, a next generation installment of our NBA Ballers franchise, Wheelman, and TNA iMPACT! the video game. We also expect to release several as-yet unannounced titles such as next generation versions of our hit franchises Blitz and Mortal Kombat, and two exciting new ambitious open world games. Ed Boon once said, the new Mortal Kombat game will use the UE3 engine :D I mean, it is sort of "inhouse" (UT3 being also released by Midway, as well as Stranglehold and some others), so it is not such a bad decision, as MK on the PS2 always looked rather bad.

I still liked those games, although they often got indexed here in Germany. But now, as region free gaming is the norm on PS3, I am eagerly waiting for this game.

I hope, they put more work in the established folks though. The newer ones, which were introduced since MK4 (which sucked more than ANYTHING else) are often pretty bad... I want Sub Zero, Scorpion, Raiden and Kung Lao... Not much else!

Going to have to agree for the most part, they really need to revamp the whole series for me to ever be interested in it again.

Anything can make a comeback, if I had told you a few years back that the Batman movies could be good again you'd probably laugh your ass off.

Well, it's not quite an analogous comparison but I get what you mean. If midway sold the license to Namco then, I'd be optimistic all of a sudden.

i think they pretty much said that the new mortal kombat was going to be a total revamp. cant wait to see it. they did say that its look is going to be influenced by the grittiness of GeOW. hopefully they dont remove the fatalities. that is by far the best part of the game.

I don't take this personally :D

Back in the day when MK2 and 3 were new, I was a sucker for these games (I own both). And MK:D was also quite good. It made my life at the military less miserable (read: it made boring evenings funny, as well as Smackdown vs. Raw and GTASA). The story mode was... well not that great, but it was fun to play nontheless.

The characters have something about them, that make them more interesting to me than say the Tekken or SF characters.

But I wouldn't mind a new Samurai Spirit too :D

I liked Shaolin Monks, 'till the game (which my mom got for me used) stopped working at one point.

used to play mk3 on the supernintendo, it's still fun

played deadly alliance for a while, unlocked everything

and when i had to send in the 360, i rented and then bought armageddon.

every story sucks balls, but the characters and gameplay are cool.
i'd definitely at least rent a new mk game on the 360.
