Anybody around here have mod arcade sticks? I have a question about one of the 3 PS3 ones avaliable. And if anybody else would like to know, I'll profile all of them if you are intrested.

Currently there are 2 Hori arcade sticks, and 1 Sega one.

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3:

Hori Fighting Stick 3:

Currently the best stick is the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 because it comes with a genuine japanese arcade stick, and has a pretty good build quality. The VSHG would be on top, but apperantly in the research I have done, it has a problem with 2-3 button inputs, so that screws it up for Tekken. The fighting stick 3 is perhaps the worst out of the 3, because it doesn't use genuine japanese arcade parts, and it is the cheapest for your money. But around the US and Canada, you'll be hard pressed to find anything other than the Fighting Stick 3. So my question is, when I'm going to buy my FS3 in like 2 or 3 weeks from a local store, how hard would it be to mod it with real japanese arcade parts? I have soldering and wiring experence, so that is a check. I just need to know which parts would fit, and how much work am I looking at.

I say import from play-asia. Why settle for anything but the best?

Lack of funds, and no credit card are both downers. Plus modding is cheaper, cuz I can get the genuine parts for around only 15 bucks (six buttons and a sawna stick). That would make the total of the FS3 for me around 70 bucks. The Real Arcade Pro 3 goes for 80 bucks before shipping at play asia, so that is something like 100 or more after shipping.

Jaxmii, very cool...

I am at the moment too making my CAD drafts for my racing seat :D I hope, I am done till GT5P comes out. But mine will be completely adjustable (height of the wheel and angle of the pedals), thus a bit more complex and also taking more time to finish...

And also, I once built my own arcade sticks... But sadly, PC only.

Just take a usb keyboard and rip it apart for the chip inside... Now buy stuff (8way stick, buttons, wood) and build it the way you want... Pretty straightforward.

True, but I want it to be able to be a PS3 arcade stick and modding controllers are harder than moding keyboards. Also cheap keyboards are also cheaper than 3rd party PS3 controllers. So the arcade stick I want gives me a good PCB to work with. I just need to know which arcade buttons would fit.

This is, where I shop...

I think, modding a pad is not much different than modding a keyboard. The main difference is, that on a keyboard chip, you can remove the original buttons, whereas on a pad, you need to bridge the old buttons.

I once had the project of building a fully fledged Mame arcade cabin, but it died, as I neared my abitur ("high school diploma" according to my dictionairy) at school and had no time at all for it. Maybe I'll do it next year, if I find enough time for it...

Haha, I was gonna undertake in a project like that as well but money constrants got in the way.

Anyways, I bought the stick, seems like a good stick so far. I just need to figure out which parts would be the best fit. But I guess I'll do that later.
