IGN Cube gave Wind Waker a 9.6

Presentation
Wow. Zelda perfectly realized as a cartoon. Everything from a slick interface to so much of the Zelda universe to behold. 10.0
Graphics
Gorgeous. Whether you like the style or not, you have to appreciate the technique and technology. Huge world, detailed locales, beautiful animation and particles, all at 30 frames and in progressive. 9.0
Sound
Some great music and sound effects mix with some less than stellar, MIDI-like samples and muted speech work. 8.0
Gameplay
Just about as perfect as can be. Finely crafted play mechanics, control, balance, design, and more, but it's occasionally scarred by tedious fetch quests and a sense that the game lacks difficulty. 9.0
Lasting Appeal
20+ hours the first time through and twice that for completionists -- and you'll want to come back after you beat it. Superb. 10.0
OVERALL SCORE (not an average) 9.6

i dont trust gamespot.. ign's much more comprehensive and isn't biased towards xbox (like gamespot is)

Only 9.3? I was expecting a perfect 10.

03-21-2003, 06:37 PM
i give it a 9.7, and i gave Oot a 9.9, since not everything was usable

No matter how you look at it, both are very good scores.

those are good scores, but I thought they would be better

metroid gets rapped by WW cause WW is a zelda franchise, its has more depth and following. Metroid was a damn good game, but no where near as addicting as WW

I think those scores are great.

Giving a zelda game less than a ten is unconstitutional.

Ign says only 20+ hours of gameplay for Wind Waker ... I was expecting more.

Arkantos
03-21-2003, 11:20 PM
Shugeru said it would take 40 hours to complete it...

Pigobenus

I'm not suprised. I think everybody is gonna give this game a great score.

Sockey
03-21-2003, 11:24 PM
I also thought Zelda would beat Metroid. And I were expecting a 10 because it's supposed to be better than OOT.

Prince
03-21-2003, 11:26 PM
They had to take 2 dungeons out of the game to ship it on time he said. Maybe that shortened the time it takes to complete.

Pigobenus
03-21-2003, 11:45 PM
what! I have never heard that, and they had plenty of time to ship the game on time withought taking 2 dungens out. From Middle December to late March.

In terms of the size of the quest, can we expect something similar in size to the N64 versions?

AONUMA: In our testing department, we obviously have someone who can complete the game faster than anyone else. This time around the fastest tester was able to clear the game in 10 hours.

wow thats pretty short :(

anyway i'll find the interview that said the 2 dungeon thing.

No its not. He would have known how to beat all the puzzles because he developed it. OOT was even shorter I think it was 3 or 5 hours.

not him. a game tester. You know, the people who are hired to play the game and get minimum wage? :)

Sockey
03-22-2003, 02:28 AM
I read somewhere that the GAME DEVELOPERS best time was 10 hours. And I would think that a game developer would have a shorter time than a tester. I think that the tester was this same developer.

Vishus
03-22-2003, 02:53 AM
I don't see what is to be sad about something that can be beatin within 10 hours because the person already KNOWS all the things in the game. Do you already know all the things in the game? Plus it also helps if you just sit down and enjoy the game rather than thinking about beating it and getting there.

Getting back on subject, I think a 9.3 is much too low. TWW deserves nothing but a perfect 10. Even Famitsu magazine gave TWW a perfect 10, and they've only given three other 10s, one of them being for OOT.

soccer_12
03-22-2003, 03:18 AM
gamespy gave it a 97/100 and I have never seen them give a score higher than that.

Isn't Jeff Gertsmann that dumbass that gave Majora's Mask an 8.3 or something? And Mario Sunshine an 8? I'm sure he would have given OOT a 7 if it wasn't for the pressure from the other editors.

He gave OoT a 10. it's like his fav game of all time. i thought he would give wind waker a pretty high score considering that..but even IGN gave it a 9.6.

The average ratio at gamerankings is 97%. That's higher than every xbox game released to date. Oh yeah, and IGN gave it a ten for value.

better then every PS2 game also.

what the problem with this is your looking at gamespot and ign here,2 snooty ass pay sites who by my opinion dont always have the true soul gamer mentality or spirit.plenty of other sites havent given it perfect scores, gamepro gives it a perfect 5.0

NTSC-UK: And was there anything you'd like to have included that you had to leave out this time around?

Aonuma
Yes there were, but let's look forward to the next instalment!

Miyamoto
We had to get rid of 2 stages. Some people still say the game is too big.

+++++
There we go. Theres like 3 other interviews were i've seen that too.

It may be short if you play through the story and only the story, i'm sure most of us will be sailing around, admiring the views and being constantly distracted my what WW offers to us.
Plus, its all about fun!

Wind Waker is going to be good, no matter what reviews it gets. I agree that it should have gotten a perfect 10, but, from what I hear, the boat rides can get a little bit annoying.

The Only thing that pisses me off is that they say its too easy. I Want it to be hard like the ol' Snes and Nes Days. Everyone who remembers A Link to the Past Knows For sure that as great as OoT Was(Most agreed upon best game ever) It Still Wasnt as hard as A Link to the Past was..I Mean it was freaking hard. Everything about it, The Boss Battles, The Puzzles everything. Ever Since A Link to the Past The Zelda's are a bit easier. Im Begging nintendo to Make the Next Dark Zelda Game as hard as A Link to the Past.

JackieChanIsGOD
03-23-2003, 10:52 PM
But then half the people wouldn't get to see the ending...
I agree to make it a BIT harder, but not aLttP hard...
OoT had awesome pacing, and that was one of the great things about it... the hardest part was pretty much right in the middle... that goddamn water temple... then it got a tad easier, and scarier, then ended nicely. Pacing really makes a game great, and if they could make everything a little tougher, then great.
