Competition: PSi Warhawk "witties"

The Game:

(Warhawk Wings + Warhawk Team badges)/total team games played.

The idea is to see how often you top your team in points. For example, a player might have 56 Warhawk Wings + 33 Warhawk Teams = 89 divided by 253, his total team games played. That means 35.18% of the time he's tops on his team in scores. Let's call this the WingTeam index or WTi for short.

Perhaps the user with the highest WTi can put "PSI WTi Warhawk Champ" in his signature. Minimum 10 hours in-game to qualify.

Note: Players in red did not play Warhawk this session or have not updated their stats. Players in green have not played the game in two updates. In order to prevent squatting and to keep the competition alive, several updates in a row (let's say 4, maybe 6?) without change or update may lead to (perhaps temporary) disqualification from the contest. Also, I can't update your stats unless you join the PSI clan or are on my friends list, so you may need to tell me your new stats in the thread if you wish to stay in the contest.

It's really odd that the ranking system is so messed up. Surely the ranking is the easiest thing to sort out? Because you rank up after getting a certain number of points.

Anyway, I've just calculated my score, and it comes to, erm, 0.066...

So is that gonna be 66%, or maybe even 6%? Either way, I'm not really that great at Warhawk, I'm a noob :)

hmm, i either wrote my post wrong or hit the wrong buttons in calculator...

i'm basically always in the top 3. usually #2. but not #1 all that often, because the stats are screwy. in CTF rounds, the ones that are #1 are the ones that camp at our flag and return it 100 times. easily done with 5 guys sitting back there and mines everywhere. meanwhile i'm the one who actually goes and captures their flag...

That's pretty good. Your WTiK ratio (pronounced 'witique,' like critique?)... Maybe tomorrow I'll spend a couple hours making new lists. It's fun to think up new ways of comparing players. I think Incognito ought to be paying attention. It wouldn't be hard to add these kinds of ranking systems to the game.

That's right. Warhawk Team badges plus Warhawk Wing badges. The sum divided by the total number of team games played. It's how often you end up first on your team...

Nice KDR! Mine's creeping up to 1.70 now, which is a big increase from 1.42 a few weeks ago. Playing defensively (in a Warhawk) on CTF levels will do that... Tow missiling the enemy team huddled around the flag to return it is great. 6 kills instantly! hehe

That's pretty much where I get most of my kills from. I'm getting really close to that 50 hrs in a Warhawk medal, so I've been pushing it hard. My buddy and I would be playing smaller CTFs with about 16 ppl total, so it made controlling the air a lot more easier. You pretty much knew where tanks, 4x4s, and Missile Turret users would be as well, so there were just so many guaranteed kills.

This week's update brings the addition of several new competitors to our game. The gap between the top 4 and the rest has also closed since our last update with the higher ranking players generally losing ground and our lower ranked players making several percentage point jumps. gnznroses is our big mover, gaining over 2% on the leaders.

Remember, I can't update your stats for you unless you're a member of the PSI clan or are on my friends list.

For anyone else (who's willing to keep track of their own stats) interested in our little contest, feel free to post in the thread and I'll add your name to our current rankings. I'm still thinking about what kind of prize we should have and how long our contest should continue. It seems there's still a healthy interest in Warhawk. For now, let's assume an indefinite time limit, so there's plenty of hope for improvement for our lower ranked players. There will be some kind of PRIZE at the end of the rainbow, so keep improving your WTies!

cool. didn't know you were updating them ;) maybe you should also note how many games or witties each person has, because if you had played, say, 10 games, it's much easier to have a high ratio than if you'd played 500.

like my k/d ratio, it's at about 1.3, up from 1.23 a week or so ago. it's only gone up a little bit, even tho i've kicked major ass lately, with many games having between a 5:1 to 8:1 ratio.

Yep, just checked it and now I'm at:

6 Warhawk Wings & 8 Warhawk Team ribbons = 10.07%

The only game in which I totally sucked was the Warhawk Team Deathmatch @ Destroyed Capital
It was kind of funny though seeing whose name would end up first(yours or mine). It was fun indeed.

I got 4 medals playing last night......and my stats might go down a bit as i need to concentrate on getting a few ribbons so I can rank up. See you guys on the battlefield. :wave:

[EDIT] Also, I calculated my top 3 appearance stat and I get a wing/teams ribbon 27.33% of the time, and I'm usually right there in the top five if I don't get a ribbon.

I thought I saw you in that Zones game. Too bad you left before my really dominant Dogfight round ;). Still, I was happy you got to see me do well. Usually when I see a fellow PSIer I tense up and play too conservatively (trying not to do anything stupid).

Tips, hmm... well, in CTF games I grab mines, hop in a Warhawk and get invisibility, chaff, lightning, and the tow missile if I can. That'll usually net me 3 or 4 kills before someone takes me out. I use the tow missile on anyone in a turret, lightning the flag to clear mines, land, start throwing mines like a fool, grab the flag, and usually get killed. That's if our flag is safe. If the flag has been stolen I'll go tow missile the enemy carrying it and try to return it. If our guys have their flag I provide air support. I'm most annoyed by enemy Warhawks that want to actually engage me in a dogfight in a CTF game. That always feels like a waste of time to me. Usually I just run away after emptying my swarm missiles. Chaff + invisibility works almost every time as a way of escaping.

In Zones games I grab mines and either try to find an unoccupied or poorly defended zone or I'll go straight for their main base, rig the place with mines and try to lower their base's level. Having mines is vital to holding a zone once you've captured it. No mines means someone will respawn and kill me before I have time to properly set up a defense.

In TDM games I kill everyone, usually from a Warhawk. I get pissed when I'm killed while still holding a tow missile. Tow missiles are practically guaranteed kills, so I always feel I've let one get away.

Hmm, other tips... I don't waste much energy spiraling into the sky to avoid missiles. I'll chaff and then try to hide behind something. I'm usually happy when enemy Warhawks try to wiggle/worm their way out of one of my swarm missiles, since it makes them easy targets for homing missiles. The best way for enemies to avoid me is to do a loop since I'm often unwilling to follow them if there's another target in my line of sight.

I don't use pro-flight or the motion controls. I zip all around the map with turbo boosts, though. I've got four fingers on the shoulder buttons (something I never thought I'd do until Warhawk), and keeping a steady steam of L1 and R1 going is important.

Don't know if there's much else. I've met some players who are better and will consistently outpoint me. Carlos from GAF seems to beat me whenever I see him. I play Variety rounds 'cause I get bored with just one game type...

this is a pretty simple tip, but have you tried driving your jeep at tank, jumping out and letting it roll pass the tank (this is a decoy move) just to find yourself near the side of it. Very quickly leap on top of it and use a flamethrower to take it out. ;) the tank won't be able to shake you off or drive out of danger.

Hmm, other tips... I don't waste much energy spiraling into the sky to avoid missiles. I'll chaff and then try to hide behind something. I'm usually happy when enemy Warhawks try to wiggle/worm their way out of one of my swarm missiles, since it makes them easy targets for homing missiles. The best way for enemies to avoid me is to do a loop since I'm often unwilling to follow them if there's another target in my line of sight.

I don't use pro-flight or the motion controls. I zip all around the map with turbo boosts, though. I've got four fingers on the shoulder buttons (something I never thought I'd do until Warhawk), and keeping a steady steam of L1 and R1 going is important.

Don't know if there's much else. I've met some players who are better and will consistently outpoint me. Carlos from GAF seems to beat me whenever I see him. I play Variety rounds 'cause I get bored with just one game type...

i was gonna stick it out through a DF cause i never play em, but i saw how long the game was gonna take and got bored with it.

i actually do do most of the things you mentioned. with the mines, the TOWs, etc. i just haven't been as agressive lately. just taking my time and picking my targets, racking up a much better K/D ratio (even with a couple thousand kills behind me, i've brought the overall ratio from 1.2 to 1.6+ in just two weeks or so).

usually in CTFs i just hassle the other team like crazy, with TOWs, binocs, and lightning. depending on the map, we usually have all the zones but one, so it's hard to actually get in and get the flag (and too tempting not to just TOW them to death the whole round). i had my first flag cap in forever in one of the 8-player rounds a day or two ago.

This update's big mover is gnznroses who gained +4 in WTi, +300 in Journeyman, +5 in TPP, and +7 in WEpix.

I've dropped \m/ and LiquidEagle from the rankings this week because I can't access their stats. i should mention that my brother is now using my account on official servers. he plays quite a bit and he's not quite as good as me ;) i had my k/d to i think 1.77, and now it's like, 1.65 or something. but i started letting him use it cause i'm not too concerned with my stats.

Being a CTF fan I really don't get too concerned with K/D ratio.
Often times I'll rush into a base to try and quickly cap the flag.
Suffice it to say, I die a lot doing so........ O:-]
