Playstation Eye Problem Help Please

Ok I have the Eye of Judgement game and the camera.

Although I have a problem I cannot get the PS3 to recognize the camera. Does anyone else have the accessory yet or can they help me find a solution.



(yes it is plugged in and power is showing on the camera, I have latest firmware and I also have eye create download)

Or perhaps try a different USB port? When I got the vision cam for 360 I plugged it into a back USB port and it wouldn't work. It works in the front ports though...

Have you looked in camera settings/tried different USB ports? If that doesn't solve your problem, I'm afraid the camera is faulty.

I don't have the camera yet, so forgive me if this isn't correct. Have you tried going to accessary settings> audio device settings> input device and hitting ok? I usually do this when any USB peripheral headset or EyeToy is being used.

If you have the chance, check the Eye on someone else's PS3. If it doesn't work yet, you surely got a defective one.

Well I am the only local person I know with a PS3.

I even tried reverting back to default settings with no luck.

Im not ready to quit just yet as Im still thinking that the accessory isnt faulty.

Have you restarted the PS3 yet? Just like the old PC's used to have this problem where it doesn't immediatly recognise new hardware.

under input device in the accessary settings, did you toggle to see if PSeye was recognizable? If so, is the volume at least working for the camera under this setting?

No toggle is available under input device, only the do not use option.




I have registered the issue with Sony Help and I am currently awaiting a call back, they asked me not to return the device as they have had a couple of calls on the issue so far. It may be a scenario of a foreign user configuration or something.

But Im going to keep working.

The camera was recognized through my pc as it began to load drivers but eventually loaded a generic usb hub.


The PS3 readily acknowledged another brand camera.

That's the only thing i found in the FAQ, it should normally just recongise it on it's own i guess.
How do I turn on the audio on my PLAYSTATION®Eye camera?

Please select Settings on the XMB. Under Settings, please choose Accessory Settings, and then choose Audio Device Settings and lastly choose Input Settings. Under Input Settings, there are two options, a Do Not Use option and a USB Camera option. Please choose USB Camera and the audio for your camera will be on and you will be ready to chat.

I have the same exact problem you have and tried the same thing. I plugged the PSeye into my Mac, and the blue light came up and it was detected on there. On my PS3, any USB port that I use, it isn't picked up by it. On Eye of Judgment or eyeCreate. Do you notice when you plug in the Playstation eye to your PS3, there is a really brief flash of the blue light (the white light bulb to the right of the lens)? Seems like it detects it for a moment and then it goes out, although the PS3 never acknowledges it. I tried rebooting, tons of times. Also, all other accessories work on USB ports: USB keyboard, charging cables, USB headset. Anything new for you before I go return this sucker?

Hey Wounding, you are already doing what you are supposed to do.

When I first plugged the camera in and wanted to check the XMB camera settings, it didn't show up for a couple of seconds, but then it worked. I also changed the microphone input from my headset to the Eye.

It also fires up in Aqua Vita, Eye Create (still haven't tried Trials of Topoq) and Eye of Judgment (damn, it's a difficult game - I don't know anything about card games.)

Btw, is the blue LED showing signs of light? The blue seems to show power and the red will only light up when the camera is active.

Ok got it solved.


I traded it in and got a new version and once again this one wouldnt work so I kept the Eye of Judgement package and then simply bought the standalone camera. The standalone camera worked fine so Ill replace the standalone camera package and get store credit for that package.

Looks to be simply a series of bad luck.

Glad you solved it - it's a good camera. I tried to record my voice in Eye Create. The sound was excellent even though I had the camera mounted on the Eye of Judgment stand, so it primarily pointed down at my living room table - to my left.

It'll work wonders in Warhawk!

Yeah a couple of bad ones but it worked out just fine. EoJ is a lot of fun but its something that I doubt Ill play much simply because the setup is a bit of a hassle (primarily bought it simply for the novelty).

The camera quality is really rather good, doesnt work as well as I would like in low light settings but overall a very good piece of hardware.

Just wanted to let you know I returned the Playstation Eye I had for a new one. Now I get the blue light, but no recognition from the PS3. I thought it worked initially since the blue light was on, but the accessory setting, eye create or eye of judgment doesn't recognize it. Bad luck, or something wrong with the PS3?

Man, I think I am going to try and get the standalone one like you did. I am going to give it one more shot. Are the cameras that faulty? I'll post in a bit on what happens....

It is a new product so its hard to tell what the reliability of it is. I personally think this may be simply a string of bad luck, but who knows.

Have you called Sony support?? Perhaps they are more knowledgeable since I have spoken with them??

I have a hard time believing that it would be 3 in a row that are faulty, but your symptoms mirror mine almost exactly.

OK, So I figured it has to be something with the PS eye camera pulling juice from the PS3, and maybe something is going on with my USB terminals. We all know the dust bunny that the PS3 can be. I turned off the PS3 and used a hair-pin to clean off the terminals. I keep the PS3 clean, but it looks like a little bit of dust made it's way inside. Not much, but just enough to prevent the Playstation Eye from working. It finally did work. So my advice to anyone that can't get the PS3 to detect the playstation eye (and can get other USb accessories to work), give it a rub down in the USB terminals! It's the first time I've seen anything like this. Now, the first playstaiton eye I had still doesn't work, so there is something faulty with the original one I purchased. But the third one did work, after cleaning.

Damn. I cancelled my EoJ order. I'll just pony up the cash and pay extra.IF something is wrong I don't want to have to worry about sending it overseas for an exchange or something. The packaging is also more attractive to boot.

The first camera (with eye of judgment) was bought online. I have to ship that back. The second one I bought local. When I went to return the second package for the ps eye, they just opened the ps eye solo pack and swapped it with the one i had from the eye of judgment package. So I'm just keeping one in the end. Yeah, I was kinda testing it out on the go and it ended up working.

I just got it, an dno probelms whatsoever .... sounds like it may be a hardware problem with your eyetoy itself.

What I did though, was plugged it before I booted up the PS3, if that helps in anyway. Connect the device and then try a hard boot.

Well, i went to move the cord around the back of my equipment and after unplugging it and plugging it back in, it's not detecting again! AGH! I don't know what's up with this...

I usually go to my local shopping center to buy my PlayStation accessaries (Best Buy), but for some reason, none of the had the PSeye. So, I decided to go to GameStop. I know, I know.... But anyway, they had it there, and so I picked one up.

I don't know, but I've been playing around with Eye Create more than I've been playing the games since I got the device. It's pretty awesome, too, and they weren't kidding about the voice recognition being filtered out from the background noise either. Even when speaking at low tones can the camera still pick up you voice quite clear. It's a definite plus over the headset.

I would, but for some stupid reason they did not bother releasing those games in the NA PSN. Go figure.
