Yet another reason for me to leave Tiscali.

So Tiscali is a british ISP?

This is one of the reasons I pay more for a service that offers the same at the German Telekom... They "promise" they will never filter or block any ports or services.
To be honest, if your contract states you get "internet access", such a practice would be illegal in my understanding, since "the internet" isn't only port 80 with http running on it, but all 65535 ports with all services running. But since must judges have no idea what the internet is, I doubt any judge on duty will honor my call on this matter^^
EDIT:
Not only British, but I believe they offer their services in Germany too (at least they did, I dunno if they are around anymore) as well as other European countries like Italy et al.
So Tiscali is a british ISP?
Indeed it is. (Edit: Apparently Europe as well)
They're cheap, but you ultimately get what you pay for, which isn't a lot. The connection we have is slow a lot of the time, and there's also a lot of issues with using BitTorrent.
I was gonna get CoD4, so I'll definitely be moving to another ISP.
It's funny that this should come up, because in one of the magazines we have here at work, they're listed as one of the top ISPs to use if you're a gamer ¬_¬

Matt if you have SKY, get SKY Broadband.
We recently switched to that and got a great deal and it's the fastest Broadband we had so far (we used BT and AOL before it), it's also the most reliable.
We've got Sky, when we first moved into our place, me and my housemate were looking at the deal where you get the TV, phone and internet through them. In the end it was a bit too expensive so we ended up getting our phone with BT and our internet with Tiscali.
Basically, I want a connection where there is no usage limit. Other than that, I'm not too bothered with what I get. Everyone is offering the "up to 8meg" option, so whichever one I get, it should hopefully be pretty decent.

Matt, those "up to" 8 Megs are a lie so be careful about scams, most of those can barely reach 3Meg, though it's mostly dependent on where you are.
Here are two (1 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7003113.stm), 2 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7098992.stm)) BBC articles warning you of false advertisement by Broadband providers.
And most of them might not have an obvious usage limit but most sneak it in under their "Fair usage" policy where it's basically not an obviously limit like "you got 2gigs per month", the fair usage policy says that if you use it excessively, they'll send you a letter to warn you and then shut down your connection.
We downloaded way over 60GB worth of stuff in a month and SKY hasn't sent a letter so that's good but other companies might be more strict.

I know that. The connection here is currently 6meg.

My mum ordered talk talk telephone but didnt want the broadband.
We ordered sky broadband. Thier lines test showed that they would give us something between 8mb and 16mb.
Talk talk had ordered the line and when I was try to find out why sky wouldnt start up BT told me they couldnt tell me cause of freedom of information act.
I called Talk talk when I figured out what had happened and asked them to cancel twice and it didnt happen. We're stuck in an 18 month contract i think. Doesnt end till October.
According to websites I'm about 700m from my local exchange and I'm only getting between 4 and 5mb.
It really annoys me when I ask people what speed internet they have and they tell me 8mb yet when I ask if thats their actual speed they don't know what I'm talking about.
I don't know whats worse. Companies playing on consumer ignorance - or consumer ignorance
I think my fair usage limit is 60GB but I don't think we've ever crossed 45GB
