We've got your first look at the new teaser poster for Screen Gems' adaptation of the Tekken video game from Namco. The story centers on two childhood friends who enter a worldwide martial arts tournament. As they progress, the pals move toward uncovering a secret that lies within the mysterious Tekken Corp. Charles Stone will direct.

In other game-to-film news, ComingSoon.net has learned that Christophe Gans' (Silent Hill) adaptation of video game Onimusha is expected to roll cameras in April of 2008. From Capcom, the game centers on a demon-fighting samurai

Well Christophe Gans is directing, and I loved Silent Hill, so I think it'll be sweet (though I'd rather see him do SH2)

I've always liked the Onimusha series..

With some good direction and casting an Onimusha movie could be really great.

Uhh, those movies could get reeeeeeeeally ugly.
Silent Hill was good, but it was set in american environment.
Let's have all western casting in both movies, yay!

That French dude should be in that movie.

He did a good job in the game.

And yes I am extremely disappointed that I forgot his name, sure I could check on IMDB and edit it in but that won't be honest.

Jean Reno, that's it.
Awesome actor, he can play god and not look silly.

In that case, Takeshi Kaneshiro should be tossed into the movie seeing as though Samanosuke was created after him.

That Tekken pic looks pretty sick...^ Lol. Its new to me too. But about the movies...I don't really expect much from the Tekken movie. Even though i'm a big fan of the series. Lord knows fighting games have a bad track record when it comes to movie translations.

But Onimusha has tons of potential to be a good translation. It could definanlty work. I'll keep my eyes out for both of these...

The Onimusha movie will be good as long as they dont decide that Jubie or Soki should be included and just have Samonske hacking and slashing mindlessly for an hour an a half with kick ass special affects and then an amazing battle were he goes all Oni against Nobunaga. Screw stroy, this movie needs blood and pretty colors and itll be set.

Silent Hill was a smart movie. I like Christophe Gans, too. Brotherhood of the Wolf is one of my favourite movies so I can't wait to see onimusha.

I'll see Tekken. Can't be worse than the live-action street fighter movie. LOL

The thing that pisses me off about video game based movies is that directors always say that video game canon does not translate well to the big screen, yet their interpretation of bringing a video game franchise to the theaters has always ended up in a horrible excuse for cinema.

Why don't directors try actually following the stories of the videogame they adapt to the big screen? I would rather them tweak and expand on the existing stories rather than piss on them. They don't seem to have a problem with it when basing their movies off novels.

Take a look at Silent Hill. Although the movie wasn't perfect by any means, the director took more from the game's universe than what he could read on the back cover of the title and it ended up leagues better than every other videogame movie.

Well, that's my rant....;)

Other than that, I'm truly worried about how the Tekken movie will turn out. There are more ways to making an arena based martial arts movie than slapping a popular franchise name on it. The underdeveloped canon of the tekken series really leaves directors alot of freedom to work with, especially dealing with the first tournament and kazuya's grudge against Heihachi.

Last time I heard [before this news] is Takeshi Kaneshiro is going to be in the movie. Jean Reno would be great, but I never really got into part 3's story of time travelling (and on a side note, I hate Hiro and his story).

Street fighter the movie is a perfect example. *gags thinking about movie* Lol but seriously...its like the people involved with the movie never even played the game. Unfortunantly many other video game movies felt the same way. The producers/writers need to learn that its not a good idea to stray too far from the source material. Otherwise you get movies like street fighter, DOA (which i've never seen but its pretty obvious) or Final Fantasy: The spirits within (Jean Claude van damme as Gille..what where they thinking?).

Or the fact that Guile was the main character in the first place.......

Anyways, only time will tell how shitty...I mean "good" these movies turn out to be. I'm kind of angry that the only reasonable sounding game to movie adaptation so far looks to be Halo....:(

If only they could get Donnie Yen to direct the fighting sequels. Then it'll be awesome. Most Hollywood fighting movies suck because Hollywood doesn't really know how to directing fighting scenes. Let the chinese handle that stuff.
