Well I've had around a week to play with this device and calling it awesome is a bit of a understatement. The rumble is super sensitive going from barely moving to full on vibrate out of your hand mode.

Ratchet & Clank blends great with it, when you fire a weapon you get feedback, when you get hit you get feedback, however if the enemy is far away and and you get hit the feedback will be less than a enemy at point blank range.

GT 5 Prologue Demo has excellent use of vibration functions and does a great job at really showing off the varying degrees of feedback that the controller can do.

Uncharted, COD4, and pretty much nearly all the games in my collection work in some way with the vibration. Developers had to have known this was coming as its working on games that aren't even on the official "supports rumble" list on the Japanese PlayStation site.

I love the weight that it adds to the controller, it feel "just right" now imho.

Here are some photos. The last one with the TV display basically means if you can see that menu (PS button -> controller settings) then the game will support rumble in some fashion.

I'm no expert in writing reviews, sorry if this is lacking information. Feel free to post any questions you have and I'll try to answer them.

Overall a great controller, definitely need to pick yourself up one when you can. The price is 5,500 Yen which is around $46.

Nice thread :)

COD4 actually supports rumble to some extent? I thought the devs had said they weren't supporting it at all. Has the support been added in the patch or what?

is the vibration any better than the dualshock 2?

Its a night and day difference between the two imo :thumbl: Sony is really going top notch this time around with all of their PS3 accessories and the PS3 components.

That's awesome, great review man :)

I know this isn't related to rumble, but I <3 the PS controller, it's too awesome :):):)

+rep man

Are they still somewhat see through like the original sixaxis controllers?

It doesn't look like it's nearly as much see-through, and I think some people who have been getting it lately have said it isn't.

They probably did that because it'd be too damn ugly to see those white/grey motors on each end.

Anyone know what the battery life is like? Does the new rumble functionality drain the battery life by alot?

I'm not sure if you slipped up, but COD4 does not support rumble...
If you know of a way to get rumble working you will make my day, because that's the game I have been playing the most on the PS3. Also, Heavenly Sword is not working & Assassin Creed. I did not try my entire library yet, but I doubt many games will work because you have to load a patch for the feature to work on older games.

If you know something the rest of us don't please share your knowledge...

BTW: The battery life is great, because I have been using my controller for over 10 hours and still have 2 bars of battery life!

$46? isn't a US Sixaxis controller $40? so you paid just $6 more? what about shipping? where'd you buy it from?

I actually paid $0.00 including shipping :) I have family in Tokyo that I asked to send the controller to me. I was going to pay them back, but they said to just take it as an early Christmas gift.

I'll test more games tonight/tomorrow, as far as battery life goes it seems just short of what I was getting with my standard controllers.

They are on backorder... I was fortunate to get one before the end of the year. If you don't mind paying a premium you can check ebay they are going for about $75 to $80 bucks shipping included.

Most if not all games released from now on, including R&C, Uncharted and others include rumble on the disc.

Ratchet came with 1.94 on the disk, which added Rumble Support :)

If MGS4 has rumble in it, I'm getting rumble controllers. Period.
And we all know it will.

Out of curiosity, are there any plans to bundle this with the system, or is it going to remain an optional accessory for the foreseeable future?

I think its worth it, if for extra weight alone. The extra weight of the rumble devices make the controllers feel better than the standard SIXAXIS ones. Plus playing with rumble is pretty damn nice :) I have enjoyed R&C a lot more since using this controller.

Ya lol, I like my light PS3 controllers! It feels like almost nothing in my hands, I love that :):):)

But I'd trade that for the rumble any day, especially for MGS4 of course :P

I'd love being the "rumble guy" at Kojima pro. He probably gets to mess around with it all he wants.
