im getting cable internet today (30mbps) if the PS3 is connected directly to the internet can my woman use the ps3s wifi to log on with her laptop?
Plug the cable into your 'womans' laptop?
But my answer is no. You would have to enable internet sharing and I don't know if that is possible. I don't think it is, unless you are booting linux.
Also, that's an expensive wireless router. Why not return the cable and get yourself a wireless router. The cost of that cable is probably comparable to a router and the router even comes with a cable. (I'm basing all that on Canadian products). I'd go with that.

I can't wait till 3MB downloads hit the A. I'll be all over that, provided the price is right. How much are you paying for that delicious high-speed service, jax?

The PS3 can't function as a router. Just get a wireless router. Buffalo's WHR-G125 is the one I am currently recommending. Cheap and it works fantastically.
When you get a router, just set the PS3 to have a static (manual) IP address and go into your router's settings and set that IP address into the DMZ, and it will act like it's connected directly to the Internet.

You must be joking : I'm getting 20MB internet + TV + Phoning (as much as I want ) for 30€ a month that is close to 42$ a month !!

With my internet box I can use both at the same time I'm pretty sure. Why wouldn't you do both at the same time ? I don't see why.

Shall I tell you, what we pay in Germany?
I have a measly 3mbits down, 384kbits up line, which costs 55€ per month (including telephone and a landline flatfee), I cannot get more thru DSL here. There is cable available here now, but since we switched to satellite television, it would add costs for tv and the like, we don't need (but 25mbits for 49€, +15€ for TV).
Since most servers can't even deliver full speed on my line (like Youtube or even Sony), there's no real need for more, except downloading Linux Isos, which I don't do every day^^ (the DFN (Deutsches Forschungs Netz) has the fattest servers there are^^ The one in Karlsruhe has a 2Gbits line^^ That's nice)
