It is obvious. So what? It is fun and I did not want to add shows to the movie thread. What is the problem? :(

Whatever gave you the idea that there is problem?

Oh, you sounded annoyed or something. Sorry, I was just confused by the tone of your post. Peace.. ;)

I will contribute to this thread because I'm a great guy. Best to...not as best.

1. Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM - This series is engraved in my memory oh so well. I was 6 or 7 and had never been so mesmerized by two dimensional characters and story before the the tube. I grew up watching the most sorrowful animated movies, something about tragedy always grasped me. The dim color palate was the icing on the cake in this dark sonic cartoon.

First episode- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2sb3LEfz0o

2. Batman: The Animated Series - Pure win

First episode preview- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NxFo-a8boQ

3. Samurai Jack - For cool kids only

Opening theme- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUaCtgto0fo

4. Star Wars: Clone Wars

First episode- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E8xrPDVcyo

5. Many more but I have no time to post them.

Comment/question: I'm not really an anime fan, I enjoy classical/American animation much more. Perhaps it's because I never grew up on it, or it could also be that I feel it's a medium of art that can truly limit ones creativity in not only art style but fluidity of the animation itself. I know anime is hugely popular in todays culture and I was just wondering if a fan could answer me why? Why do you enjoy anime? Thanks.

I'm certainly not as interested in Anime as I used to be, which, even then, was less than the average fan, but as with all entertainment and art, it is the content that is most important. It doesn't matter what the style or medium is, as long as it delivers content that affects it's audience in a positive way.
If the same content were delivered in two different animation styles, say Anime and Disney, it simply comes down to personal preference as to which the individual would rather look at. Anime is a term, when used by westerners, to refer to animation from Japan. It doesn't actually have any bearing on style. But generally we associate it with our own preconceptions of "Anime style". Just as when one refers to "classical/American animation" it has no bearing on style. I mean, there are so many different American animation art styles, they can't all be generalised as the single American style. Not only that but when talking about "animation style" we shouldn't be talking about the art at all, but the actual animation techniques used. Typically, Anime is limited-animation whereas traditional Disney is full-animation, but that isn't an inherent restriction of the Anime style. Anime can be as technically and creatively unlimited as any other style if the creator chooses it to be (and the budget allows.)

In conclusion, whether an Anime employ full, limited, stop-motion or 3D animation, whatever the art style, the content is all that matters, and if the content, animation and art style all work together to create and experience greater than the sum of its parts, it is deserving of merit, and the same goes for animation from all over the world.

1. The Ren And Stimpy Show and Adult Party Cartoon
John Kricfalusi is the greatest contemporary animator today.
The amount of sheer talent he infuses into each of his projects (when under his control) is incomparable.
It is a pure joy to watch his animations on both entertainment and technical levels.

2. Azumanga Daioh
The most sincerely original and unique Anime I've ever watched, amongst what seems to be a sea of rehashes and content thievery.
Hilarious and heartfelt, a beautiful experience from start to finish.

3. Futurama
While The Simpsons is designed to appeal to a broad audience, Futurama is dedicated to those of us with geekier inclinations.
What sets it apart, more than anything, is that not only is it not shy to express it's emotional side, but it has tender grasp on gently strumming the heartstrings of the viewers.

4. Daria
Well crafted characters I actually care about, the show getting progressively better over time.

5. Sam And Max
While other shows will maintain a sensible and restrained approach to humor, Sam And Max is a manic and hyperactive joyride of hysteria.

6. Beavis And Butthead
Culturally concise stupidity and hilarity.

7. King Of The Hill
King Of The Hill proves that unlike so many animated comedy series out there, the characters don't need to become jokes themselves, instead letting their actions speak with greater effectiveness.

8. Dr. Katz
Sure, H. Jon Benjamin and, to a lesser extent, Jonathan Katz have become Adult Swim regulars, but to me they will always be Dr. Katz and his son Ben, irrespectively. The retroscripting improvisation method suits the main cast perfectly.

9. Angry Beavers
Another show that just got better and better over time.
Richard Horvitz is one of the funniest voice actors around.

10. Chobits
The first Anime I loved.

Other mentions I will now mention include:
The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, the last anime I loved.
Rocko's Modern Life, Particularly the Heffer & Philbert episodes.
Stroker And Hoop, I'm a Speed Levitch fan.
Assy McGee, "Where are you going asshole?" "I'm going.. to shoot you."
Frisky Dingo.
The Venture Bros.
Home Movies, especially when H. Jon Benjamin and Jonathan Katz are together.
Robot Chicken, one of my favorite sketch shows.
Mahoromatic, but it's been quite a while since I last watched it.
Metalocalypse.
Perfect Hair Forever, so cool to have such cool musical involvements.
12 Oz. Mouse, it gets pretty David Lynchian.
Haibane Renmei, a masterpiece Anime series.

And of course,
The Simpsons,
Family Guy,
South Park,
And more.

I couldn't remember anything so I just copied and pasted the ones I like from your lists:

Futurama- Some jokes go right through me. Not as in I don't get them but I just don't find them funny but still a great show overall.
Has some episodes that I really can't be bothered to re-watch though.

King Of The Hill- Fucking hilarious characters and has it's own style of humour and drawing.

looney toons- "What's up doc?" I grew up with these guys.

popeye- I also grew up with him. My favourite part was the images he got in his biceps after swallowing the spinach.

simpsons- Well, duh and I harshly dissed the newest episodes but I re-watched them the other day and they really are much better on 2nd viewing.
Not to mention if you watch older Simpsons, they still have same kinda jokes but I think I am being more harsh because 'it's the new Simpsons OH NOEZZ!' but if you just shut up and watch without any expectations, it's still very entertaining.

south park- Cartoon Wars episodes will never be topped. Especially since I watched that episode at the perfect time, when I really hated Family Guy and the joke they made regarding Family Guy writers was hilarious.
And obviously they are hilarious overall and they do parody very well as well.

american dad- Much better than Family Guy *i am saying this because seth mclaren or whatever is also involved in this one).
Other than some bits where i get the feeling "lol we are doing this to be edgy lolz look how cool we are!" it's a pretty funny show.
the alien character and the stories that emerge from his presence i'm never a big fan of though.

I'm glad somebody said that. A lot of people I know will slate the new Smpsons stuff without even seeing it. They all get up on their little pedestals and give that lame "Simpsons stopped being good 10 years ago" bullshit.

No matter what you think of the newer material, they've still managed to keep going with it for a long time, and they get my respect for that.

Anyway, here's my list, in no particular order:

The Simpsons
South Park
Futurama
Fullmetal Alchemist
Bleach
Naruto
Ren & Stimpy
Earthworm Jim
The Angry Beavers
Tom & Jerry

I like anime because it is mainly made for adults. Most of American animation, besides a few shows like Family Guy/The Simpson's/South Park, are made for kids. I am not a kid any more. That is why I like Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Black Lagoon. If some American animation studio got their shit together and made cartoons for adults I would watch it.

I watch old school cartoons with my daughter these days, but that is about it.
