The last 12 months have been one of the best years in video game history, both critically and commercially. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7156701.stm)
Gamers have been able to revel in some of the most exhilarating interactive experiences ever designed.

Sales in the UK are at an all-time high, with more than £1.52bn taken in the last 12 months.

Some video games crossed over into blockbuster entertainment territory. Halo 3, for example, earned £84m in its first 24 hours on sale.


And here are the best games according to some experts:

oh my. david braben, why? what the... how could anyone really enjoy playing a first person shooter where it feels like you're walking through mud and moving in slow motion the whole time... let alone enjoy it the most.

it wasn't that bad for me, i've enjoyed the rent on 360.
I think it did a good job of setting the mood of the place and drawing you in.
it was very interactive and shooting felt new somehow (maybe it was the mud factor ¬_¬).

and really none of these 'experts' are experts to me at all, i'm only familiar with EDGE and the editor has a pretty awesome list.
