Here we are in 2008, the begining of the PS3's second full year what do we have to look forward to? Will Sony continue to battle for market domanincey? Will PSN become the new iTunes/Xbox Live? Can Sony actually get Home, and PSN up to what they have claimed? All these awnsers and more will be found this year.

Personaly I am looking forward to 2008 Like.No.Other year before it. I have had a good feeling about this year since about 2001. I am not sure why, maybe it is cause I had a great 1998, or was it because I was born in 1988. In any case I see great things to come this year.

As far as Playstation is concerned I believe that this is the year that Sony can finally bring it all together. They have the games, they have the most powerful system, they have motion control, they have the EYE, they have the network. This year it is not about buliding public awarness, not about the launch of a new system, and getting the ball rolling has already started. In 2008 we should no longer have to worry about crappy 3rd party ports making the PS3 look like a joke next to the 360 version, or getting stuff late on PSN. 2008 is the begining of the polishing perdiod.

Features
As we all know the Playstation is no longer a name associated only with video games. Playstation has gone B3YOND games, and is now about having a media center in one box. In 2008 Sony must continue to push the systems features to new levels. We need to see In-Game XBM and we need to see it soon. The PS3 has the most advanced micro proccessor ever created in it, and their is no reason it can't pull off anything Sony can through at it. If I have to submit one of my seven SPE's for OS use at all time I want to be able to get the most out of it.

When I play a PS1/2 game I do not want to be logged out of PSN, the same applys to movies. The PS3 is the only one of this gens consoles that supports 1000Gb ethernet and I want to see that put to use. Give me VOD, and IPTV. I want tot be able to through in a game and have PiP of a sports game. Every PS3 has a HDD, so we all need the ability to do DVR with that IPTV.

PSN
Granted Sony finally delivers, PSN will turn into a digital download paradise. Give US everything that is available on iTines and more, and make it open format. It has been talked about for ages and if Sony is serious in 08 they have got to get this to the consumer. PSN has to become the ultimate one stop shop for all digital media. Give me the ability to sit down in front of my 50in TV and go to a service were I can find movies (for download, and order Blu-ray),TV (D/L, BD), Music, podcasts, Games (D/L, BD), Peripherals, and appearl. Sony has the power to bring this all, and I think they have the right guy behind the wheel right now to take a shot at it.

Games
Is it even worth mentioning the PS3's line-up for next year. What can you say about a list of games that speak for them selves. With the sequals to industry evloving games like Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Killzone, and Devil May Cry, and promising new comers such as Infamous, Little Big Planet, and Whight Knight Cronicals the PS3 is certantly not lacking in games for 08. I would really like to see Sony try and take episodic gaming to the next level in 08, they seem to have the ideal fomual ready in Rat Race. Simpil graphics, fun gameplay, and a great story is all you need for a 3 hour experiance every month at about 7.99.

As a Whole
The most important thing in 08 is to continue to get the price down. Sony must keep pace with MS and I believe that means two fifty dollars price drops next year. One will undoubtably come around GTA4, and MGS4 time frame, and the other in October November. If they get PSN delevering conetent like it should, and can continue to pull further and further ahead in the High Def format war, then they need not to worry about losses on the PS3. As long as all the legal BS gets done, and we can get the PS3 doing what it was made for, this should be the best year ever to own a Playstation, 3 that is.

What is everyones thoughts for this year year?

Push the games hard is the logical extension and then they really need to deliver on Home and various other aspects of their online community. Sony (imo) should focus strongly on Japan and Europe and build their base through these territories.

Continuing price cuts is hard to estimate at this point. I dont believe that we are going to see many significant price cuts throughout 2008 as the breakneck pace Sony went through in 2007 may come to an end when hardware costs are starting to crunch on them.

Above all I would say marketing should be their main goal. Now that the system is at a semi acceptable price point enough push with the software should equate to at least steady sales in their base territories and throughout NA.

Its the off months that should tell the tale of how well Sony grows in 2008 (spring and summer months).

I do think Sony needs to concentrate on making new IPs like Uncharted. It will surely be the decisive year to boost their sales...The Umds were not really succesful this year, and the Blu Ray is just beginning to come into people's mind.
But great games are coming this year. Hope to see more announcements from 3rd party devs and hope they won't let Sony's back.

Games, games, games! And some additional services and features, please. Don't keep delaying stuff for so long while you're at it as well.

Improving the marketing of the big games isn't out of the question either. Some games had to sell more.

Agreed, I felt like 2007 was the year of delays for Sony.

Improve their fucking dev tools, so when CPI can say "Holy Shit, people aren't sacrificing virgins to get these games up and running anymore!" we can all expect the PS3 to become the lead platform with titles (both 1st and 3rd party) start taking advantages of the system that can actually be called significant.

They also need to start telling people that playing online is FREE. Just run an ad on TV with a black background and white impact letters. Easy on the eyes and gets the point across.

I hope Sony kick their devs asses in Europe and Japan ( Excluding Polyphony and Ueda's teams of course) cause we cant keep relying on Insomniac, Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica to keep pushing the bar.

I think Sony finally got there feet firmly planted in 07. Now they just need to reinforce everything and build on what they've built so far. Hopefully we'll see them to continue there good marketing they finally started towards the end of this year. Thats a must...

SONY needs to get loud! The marketing towards the end of '07 was getting there, but nowhere enough to really push the product. They need to push for exclusives with gaming sites, magazines, and with the press altogether - make heaps of noise! I remember watching a Discovery Channel program about video games, and it featured the MGS (Microsoft Gaming Studios) and followed their dev team as they sought out to create some XBOX games.

Hell, why not start a PlayStation Nation gaming tournament in the main regions kinda like EA. Product placement with SONY/BMG artists on their videos and with their movie studios - just go media crazy!

I think the exclusives will have good sales - eventually! I don't think they're system sellers as we expected (like R&C & Uncharted) but they will have continued success like MS and R:FOM when people eventually buy a PS3. I hope things drastically change when MGS4, LBP and Killzone 2 are released.

Oh. And get some of those crazy ideas for the EYE released. Just imagine the gameplay they can invent with that crazy sh*t!

Playstation Nation sounds AWESOME. I think they should take their more multiplayer oriented exclusives and have uber-competitive tournaments ala MLG. It would give games like Warhawk, Tekken 6, and Killzone 2 some extra exposure. They don't have to be televised, but they can have matches uploaded to the net for download. Cash or swag, Sony needs to do something to appeal to the more hardcore audience, and something like PSNation would be excellent.

On the casual side, they need to just hype and advertise the shit out of LBP. Hell, after some people have made some levels, I say take those levels and make commercials out of them. What better way to get people's imaginations jump started than that?

More original PS3 games need to get made that are exclusive. Give people lots of very awesome reasons to buy a PS3.

Sony NEEDS to get its dragging ass moving on the America and European versions of the PSN Store! Lots more content is needed. Take away another reason that XBot fanboys can chide Sony for. Tons of downloadable PS1 games, add PS2 games, and add a DRM free music and movie download store.

More on-line games. Sony just needs more more more!

PS3 in 08, what needs to happen?
I'm pretty sure they need to sell more.

More games and better games.
More features.
Cheaper price.

I am a genius, I just gave Sony the advice of the century.

I've had the NES, Genisis, 32X:doh:, PS1,2,3 PSP, Wii, DS, Game Boy and the one thing that has been consistant in my house is Playstation. I've never had nor have wanted to own an XBOX. My Wii collects dust as we speak. Every day in and out my kids are on the PS3 (sometime nonstop, bad father lol) so while it's been a tough year (but finished out great) it has followed the same path as the XBOX360 It's first year, Sony doesn't have to do anything more than their plan.

I have faith in Sony, maybe blind faith at times but faith non the less. I think this whole Warner going Blu will be a big deal in helping the PS3 along but going red will hurt. Sony has put a lot of $ and R&D into it and I (like so many here) really want them to succeed. Not just the games but the movies as well, that'll be huge. There are a lot of people that want Sony to go down from what I've seen on other forums it's crazy.

Heres to the PS-3 great games, great movies and Warner I hope.... :2cents:

The base work is already in place. This year, I expect Sony to start applying the fine pieces which will better menifest their strategy to those looking in.
