I bought a PS3.
Finally.
After a year of "meh, i'll get it later".
So first impressions: Holy shit Sony can polish a console and the money pays you back the second you navigate through the XMB.
So slick, so great, so.....Sony.
I'm using the Killzone theme, haven't bothered looking through more though.
That's all I got to say!
Oh and I got no games lol.
Uncharted didn't arrive with the PS3 (ordered from different place) and I can't go PSN shopping because Sony doesn't like my card for now (though i hear this problem randomly fixes itself) but no worries it's still great  and I got demos for now until later when I might go outside and buy the packaged version of Warhawk.
Looking forward to some hardcore gaming times

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen a 60 GB one for sale on any shop for weeks. It has to be pretty much sold out everywhere. eBay is your only hope.

I actually was with a friend today for when he got his Ps3 (after receiving a good amount of cash for the holidays).. I told him to go for a 60GB ahead of time. You can try Gamestop too still. The one we went to had two left, but they were refurbished. He got it for $429.99 I believe.

You can still play PS1 games though. You can always use a USB hub and a USB card reader to make for the less USB ports and removal of card slots, by the way.

The 40 GB doesnt play PS2 games at all the 80 GB plays the same amount as the EU model (not all but a good amount) and the old 60 GB launch model plays almost or even all, not 100% sure about this.

Yes unfortunately buying a console at this time left me with a HUGE games list to buy and it's kind of annoying but none-the-less I shall get around to it.
Top of the list at the moment lies Warhawk since it's cheaper and I heard was freakin' awesome and I haven't played it at all yet.
Thanks all for the welcome to the PS3 universe and as soon as I financially recover a bit ¬_¬, I'm sure we'll meet in lots of online games.

Why do the hard drives size determine the amount of backwards compatible games? Either way Im getting a PAL console so hopefully all the best games work.
It has nothing to do with the HDD size, it's simply the different models, which coincidentially also had different HDD sizes.
The 60 and 20 GB consoles initially released in USA and Japan had both the PS2 GPYU and CPU, plus the chip used by PStwo to emulate PSX games.
Then the EU version of the 60 GB was released. It only has the PS2 GPU(and PSX chip), but is able to emulate the CPU very well, and runs most games.
The US 80 GB, released later, is the same as the EU 60 GB.
And finally, we have the "tard pack" of PS3: The 40 GB. It only has the PSX chip, discarding both the PS2 CPU and GPU, and with them all PS2 compatability. It also has 2 USB-ports less than earlier models, and it's the first model to lack a cardreader since the 20 Gb was fased out.
You can make up for this with USB-splitters and an external cardreader, but it's still rather annoying.
On the bright side, the 40 GB runs much cooler, is lighter, and quieter than the other models, though they aren't exactly noisy.
I hope that explains it all.
I never had a PS2, and these are the games Ive wanted to play. Also Ico and We <3 Katamari, but not as much. The only Final Fantasy game Ive ever played is Crystal Chronicles on Gamecube.

Well, you'll want something good to play those games with, right? It feels like it's much higher quality than the SXS, but maybe it's just the weight. Regardless, it's a much better controller.

If those games were good enough I would have bought a PS2 and played them. Unfortunately they didnt come close to what I was playing at the time so I missed out on them. I guess its a good thing its our opinion of what makes a good game thats important and not whether or not other people think I fail at gaming.
masteratt
01-04-2008, 10:43 AM
Well duh but those games are what defined the PS2 generation and one main reason being that they were games that were made greatly and with great passion and it showed so any gamer would personally love them.
It's not personal opinion when you are judging how well a game is made, it's personal opinion when you are judging weather you would enjoy the games or not and those games were made on a masterpiece level so any gamer would obviously want to and should play a masterpiece game.

You will only be able to play those games if you get a PAL 60 GB one, as the 40 GB one doesn't have the PS2 chips anymore. At least I can tell you that Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, We <3 Katamari and all Final Fantasy games work on the 60 GB one, as I have played them. SotC looks really great upscaled to 720p.
By the way, Crystal Chronicles is not a canonical Final Fantasy game. FFX and FFXII are the real deal on PS2. At least you'll be able to play the now classic VII, VIII and IX for sure, which are totally worth it despite their age.
That's the NTSC 60GB PS3, which plays about 95% of PS2 titles.
The PAL PS3 plays about 72-75%.That was at launch. The PAL PS2 BC has gotten better with each firmware upgrade. They are at about the same % now.

"i just had no idea just how awsome the ps3 was till i bought one."
its a cascade effect now the more people buy them the more they expose them to friends and family the more folk go out to buy them to show more friends and family.
also i know of at least 4 guys and one disk jocky at WCCC in hartford that have become PS3 owners just because of RROD. (RROD is the DRE of the seventh gen of gaming)

He's fine. He used the oldest wrestling trick in the book...he landed of nis knee. Look at the gif again. His knee absorbed any would-be shock to his head.
I must also direct edification: the so called victim raises his hands and prepares for impact. also his head is unrestrained from collision, if this was a true incident, newtons law dictates he would be forced to snap it up in as dictated by conservation of momentums. Sorry, its a bogus and hilarious dictum of misconduct. Phew!
