^The COD4 beta or final release was nothing like the debacle of the Socom Confrontations beta release... I would imagine the beta will get better over time, but if my memory serves me correctly the COD4 beta was a smoother experience.
I should submit feedback to 6 Slant, but honestly due to all the issues trying the play the beta I have not logged enough time of actual gameplay to provide detailed suggestions IMO. Perhaps once they clean things up I will log some real game time and provide some feedback.

Well if you cant provide detailed suggestions why can you complain here about the slow gameplay?
I didnt looked, but i bet theres a Beta thread somewhere on an official forum.
Post there and when enough people join your complain it will be fixed.
Just look what they did in the Warhawk beta.
The problem is the community has to speak and tell the devs what they like and what they dont like.

^I just agreed with another post based on my limited time with the beta.
If they get the damn beta running right and I can actually play some games instead of looking at the fucking loading icon I may have a change of opinion... Overall I'm just pissed off that game is not up to par with other next-gen releases and Sony has blown another opportunity with a popular IP.
Even if the game ran perfectly it still sucks it does not have the polish of a full next-gen release like COD4. Considering the popularity of the Socom series the PSN release was a flawed approach from inception...

I just played 7 games sraight with no major problems excepted the loading screen.
from the EU board:
A tip for decreasing the loading times
Most people have figured this out but many haven't. Avoid 32 player games! they take far too long to join, stick to 8 and 16 only (crossroads normal not large because it takes ten years to find an enemy) and try to enter ones that have just started with only a few players in (others will join after, your loading times will improve). I don't know how significant this is but every time i start the game i go to options, select channel: europe (you have to do it every time you start the game up because it doesn't save it automatically) i'm not sure if it improves anything but it just seems right to have europe selected. Hopefully the loading times issue will disappear in a week if they manage to fix it.
the loading times in the smaller games can vary between 3-15 minutes, or occasionally more. I think it depends on who's in the game and their connection speed.Maybe they use a closed circuit system.

Thats what i did all the time in CoD4.
Well if you think its too slow, let the devs know.
A public Beta is for community response.

The SOCOM: Confrontation keys are all gone. Congratulations to everyone who got hold of one and sorry if you missed out.
Apologies particularly to those of you who missed out because accessing the website between 4 and 5pm was difficult. SOCOM was a very popular attraction and our amazing super-strong server struggled to deal with your enthusiasm.
I thought it would be useful for Mark Kennedy, Eurogamer's lead technical person or whatever, to explain why the hell we shouldn't sack him on the spot and set fire to him. "Imagine going to the pub, and instead of everybody waiting for the barman to get round to serving them, they just all shout out their orders," Mark told me.
"If they don't get their drink in one second, they just shout the order again and the barman really can't concentrate on what he's doing and everybody gets their drinks slower," he concluded, joblessly. So yes, we're sorry about that.
On the plus side, we're trying to convince Sony to give us some more, so with any luck there will be another chance soon. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the beta!

Got into some 4 on 4 last night like somebody suggested with a bunch of people from ATL, and the game was great. Framerate was still a bit low, but kills came alot easier. Now I just need to adjust my movement sensitivity and tweak my weapons, and I'll be all set. Then hopefully by the end of the week, they'll have the stability/latency issues all worked out.

Yes it has and its annoying, i had a lot connection and loading issues.

But its so rewarding when it runs, its so awesome.
I loved every second of the gameplay, all that i missed in all the years is in this game.

We will be performing server maintenance and rolling out a new patch on September 9th at 5am PDT, 1200 GMT. The SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation game servers will be unavailable during the maintenance. The server maintenance is not expected to last longer than 1 1/2 hours.
SOCOM: Confrontation Public Beta 1.10 Patch
* Adds support for European EULAs.
* Adds support for dedicated servers located in Europe and Australia.
* Addresses a number of stability and late joining issues.
* Reduce the volume of the proximity chat by 50%.
The server maintenance and patch are not meant to address all issues. We will have more updates to both the server and client in the future.

SOCOM Confrontation beta report: great stuff, when working
By Frank Caron | Published: September 09, 2008 - 12:45PM CT
http://media.arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.media/ars_socombeta_loading.jpg
Following a one week delay, the beta for SOCOM: Confrontation, the latest iteration of the long-standing PlayStation franchise, is now underway. Press and pre-order patrons have begun to delve into the tight tactical action, while those who purchased the first issue of Qore will be joining the force on Friday. And while the beta has been a bumpy one thus far, the game does play well for the most part... once you can actually get into a match.
Out of the gate, the beta suffered from some pretty brutal connectivity problems, lag, and other "load related issues." My play time has been marred by long waits for entry into matches and some pretty mean bouts of lag and stuttering in-game. Numerous accounts from other outlets have identified a number of problems, for which Sony and Slant Six Games have gone on the record to apologize. "We are doing everything we can to resolve these issues as quickly as possible and you should see some improvements progressively over the next couple of days," reads the entry on the official SOCOM blog. The first of what will likely be many patches has already gone live today.
Of course, it is a beta for a reason. Thankfully, looking past those issues, SOCOM proves to be a solid third-person shooter with some great community features. Warhawk has long been the standard for organized multiplayer on the PlayStation 3, but it appears that the title will quickly be passed to SOCOM when the game launches. Even in beta, a number of key improvements already trump Incognito's excellent title.
For one, voice chat in the beta has been surprisingly excellent. The new official PS3 headsets come with a special high quality mode that SOCOM will take advantage of, but even without them the voice chat is higher quality than any other PS3 titles. Given that the game is so highly tactical and team-oriented, this is good news.
The clan options are also significantly more robust. An integrated clan calendar allows clan leaders to create scheduled events which are pushed out to all members of the clan. These events range from tournaments to clan matches and even open invitationals. Clan leaders can also interact with other clan leaders to set up events for all the clan members involved. Clans themselves can be heavily customized: all clan members have a shared uniform designed when the clan is created, in addition to a clan logo; this distinguishes any and all clan members from "mercenaries and commandos," which are players unaffiliated with any clan.
As for the game play itself, the game plays smoothly when a given room is running well. If you've played SOCOM before, there won't be very many surprises: interface improvements, customization options, and a more fully-featured clan system are the main draws here. Should the beta continue to steadily improve connection-wise, SOCOM: Confrontation should be well worth the $59.99 price tag with the pack-in Bluetooth headset when the game launches October 17.

Good news for faster loading times. Hopefully the next patch fixes server stability. Till then, I'm sticking to small games. Isn't that what everybody said SOCOM excelled at anyhow? I'm not keen on 32 players for this title. It seems like 16 is the sweet spot in terms of players on each map.

GTAce

It is a bit slower, but i like that.
Too much speed=too much rushing.
And the sprint feature is well done, while sprinting you cant shoot and when you sprint too long your character gets exhausted and you cant shoot as precise as without the sprint, especially with the scope.
So snipers cant just run and shoot and run.

New patch on the way :
Thank you all for participating in the SOCOM Confrontation Public Beta. We know that it has not gone as smoothly as we would all like, but I want to assure you that we are working on the issues. Please remember, the main purpose of the Public Beta was to identify just these types of issues before the game is launched.
We are working on and testing another patch right now. For this patch, the focus is to resolve the following issues:
Abnormally long network synchronization issues when some users in a game have a poor network connection. This issue causes 4-7 minute (or longer) load times when late joining a game.
An issue where respawn game late joiners were sometimes stuck in spectator mode and could not respawn into the game.
Remove the latency detection network test which is causing some users with poor network connections to receive the network latency icon (red X).
We will announce when the new patch will be released once we've verified the fixes and it has passed our QA.

^The gameplay is not bad, but they do need to fix several aspects of the game for balancing... It would be great if they fix the loading and online lag issue with the beta so we can better evaluate the actual gameplay.
I still doubt the game will be released in October based on the state of the beta build; perhaps I will be proven wrong.

Patch 1.30 coming with lots of fixing issues :
We are happy to announce that the eagerly anticipated SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Public Beta 1.30 Patch will be released on Thursday, September 18th, at 12:00 GMT/UTC (8am EDT, 5am PDT, 1pm BST, 9pm JST/KST).
The SOCOM: Confrontation 1.30 patch addresses the following issues:
Abnormally long network synchronization issues when some users in a game have a poor network connection. This issue causes 4-7 minute (or longer) load times when late joining a game.
Fixed an issue where respawn game late joiners were sometimes stuck in spectator mode and could not respawn into the game.
Removed the latency detection network test which was causing some users with poor network connections to receive the network latency icon (red X).
Fixed an issue where clients with different client versions (patches) could play together in a default medley game.
Fixed an issue where if the session master leaves the game, late joiners could not "green up" and late join into the game.
Fixed corrupt characters in the European and Japanese EULAs and Server News.
Fixed many join game issues and made joining a game quicker. We are still optimizing this.
Fixed an issue where if you add and then remove someone from your block list they were still unable to send you a message.
Improved accuracy while moving (based on user feedback). Partial implementation. More improvements to come.
Reduced the encumbrance penalty (based on user feedback).
Changed the default round time for Medley games from 8 minutes to 6 minutes (based on user feedback).
We are still looking into the following issues and they will be addressed in a future patch:
Some late joiners have really bad framerate (5fps) and crash if they exit the game from the start menu. This happens at approximately 1/50 frequency.
Some late joiners will get stuck on the round complete screen. This is timing dependent.
Some users will crash in-game. This happens at approximately 1/100 frequency (games).
Some late joiners get stuck on the loading screen, loading into a game. This happens at approximately 1/100 frequency.
Green or corrupted particles appear for RPG, C4 and AT4 explosions. This happens at approximately 1/4 frequency (users).
Further tuning and tweaking based on user feedback.
Once the patch is released, we will continue to keep an eye out for any additional issues which may arise.
Regards,
SOCOM: Confrontation Online Team "

Exactly... because most players somehow can't breath normally... shout stuff when they get shot and whatnot... it is ANNOYING. Then there's people who blast music in the background, which is even MORE annoying, some people talking to other people while playing online etc... there are MANY reasons why voice activation isn't good

so, for SOCOM vets, how's this one handling the tactics and overall SOCOM tradition? is it good or is it a flop?
Well in terms of traditional gameplay, it s on par with other socoms, but like Nameless there are few things to fix. And I found some weapons to be really unfairly equal and unbalanced between the seals and the terrorists....
In terms of game in general ; I think 32 players is maybe too much for this kind of game. or maybe for the level presented ( only croassroad ) the large version of croassroad is not that well designed IMO.
But yes , the diversity of games, such as escort, breach are really good, and the switch system between terro and seals every 6 games is good.
BUt it s the weapons that I don 't really like. and the stupid laser lol ennemies ca track you down a miles away with a laser sight.
But i ll purchase it anyway. The video game festival will begin this friday and last till the end of the week end, I ll try the near finished or maybe the finished version of the game , I ll keep you up !

This game will be good as long as people play only on the "normal sized" maps and not the humongous maps. If people just play like 10v10 maximum wars on the smaller maps then this game will be a huge it. If you guys just use light armor you will be able to run faster and I'm glad the mics aren't open because I hate how some people just spam on the mics. Especially people that just run their mouth and talk shit to others just to get their kicks. This game I'm sure will play beautifully as long as people stick with playing it on the smaller maps and not the expanded maps.
why isn't the bluetooth bundle coming to Australia?!
Smokey

Exactly... because most players somehow can't breath normally... shout stuff when they get shot and whatnot... it is ANNOYING. Then there's people who blast music in the background, which is even MORE annoying, some people talking to other people while playing online etc... there are MANY reasons why voice activation isn't good
thats why COD4 has MUTE to mute the dickheads. 99% of the time theres 4-10 of me mates on my side side so we talk whats going on. ya press button & like 10 seconds (exaggerated) later ya can talk... pathetic

still no COD though...... but it is a DLyeah, COD4 looks a little better I would say, but COD4 is already out too;) plus, Socom isn't ya know...Call of Duty--what would be the point of mimicking it  gameplay/art style wise.
still, the game could look muuuuuuch better, but I don't think it was a Sony priority- or they would've made it a first party game. look at how Wipeout turned out; freakin' amazing!
I think Sony is concentrating on M.A.G. but still, maybe this will be entertaining enough for it's price. though I am worried that it is having some troubles.

Graphics have never been Socom's strongpoint.
I read on a thread about the private beta, that this version is
way behind what the final product wil be.
still, given the system and competition, they could have made the graphics much better. graphics may not be the focal point, but they sure as hell make a difference. imagine going back to playing the PS2 one. graphics don't only offer more detail that effects gameplay, it also offers more 'feel' to the game. it makes gamers feel more involved and tense. look at Team Fortress 2 and CoD4 art direction and you can see why each one went with that style. SOCOM follows the latter. and in that regard, you should go all the way with graphics.
this is especially coming from a game that looks like an averageo below average third party TPS.
Bsack
09-27-2008, 06:23 PM
It's far from below average TPS, but you're welcome to your opinion. This game will be better than any shooter available and like somebody stated graphics were never the strong point of the socom series.
I am talking about graphics alone.

Attention Beta players version 1.50 is available; I'm downloading now.
This will be the most current version prior to the final release so I'm excited to give it a go.
I will post my thoughts later.
Update:
Unfortunately the new build still has issues that make it damn near unplayable.
The rounds still have problems starting and an annoying popup message keeps occurring even during gameplay. Also, the online sessions still have tons of lag effecting smooth gameplay.
I have to admit the amount of issues experienced during this beta has been troubling and I have been more than patient. I'm starting to wonder if Six Slant is up to the task of creating a fluid online gaming experience. It's naive considering all the issues with the beta, but perhaps the final build and servers will operate properly later this month...

Here's an early impression of someone wo also got it :
Back with some impressions - my main goal was just to touch on the older maps so I could really draw some comparisons.
Desert Glory is by far the best 'revision' of the older maps - every game I played ran flawlessly with absolutely no problems with lag, hit detection, frame rate, tearing... and it still managed to really feel like the older version of the map so I felt right at home.
Any of the main technical issues from the beta are gone (at least at this point with 400+ people playing online). No more ridiculous network initialization failures, lobby joining issues, long loads between matches, disconnections, lag, etc. Noticed some slight tearing on occasion in Crossroads, but my experiences elsewhere were completely smooth.
If it manages to maintain or exceed this kind of performance when the servers load up, I don't see anything here that can't be fixed by a few gameplay patches down the road (R1, Warhawk, etc.)
I couldn't get the headset to sync, so impressions on that later, but at least at this point you shouldn't be worried about the game.

Sony Blutooth Official Headset impression
Well... got my Playstation 3 Headset for an additional 20 dollars with SOCOM and I have got to say... it was a no brainer once I got back home and got my Playstation 3 Headset up and working. The charging time only took about 2-3 hours to fully charge. Once I had it charged up, I tried it with my cellular phone.
And WOW! What an experience! This headset for sound and microphone quality beats the 100 dollar Bluetooth ones on the market made by Jabra, Nokia, and Motorola. I had the Headset's volume to the max as it was plenty loud for my ears while on a phone conversation. My friend on the other line couldn't hear a sound or whisper of what he was saying into the headset, a major problem with other bluetooth headsets today. Not only that, but it was crystal clear without any crackling or distortion. This shows there is a solid connection and that the speaker is of great quality for how loud it goes.
Now came the test for the microphone portion. I talked back for a minute and my friend could not tell that I was using a Bluetooth headset... it was that crisp, clean, and clear. Not to mention it has a power dock to be used for charging and a desktop microphone! For 20 dollars.. I don't know who could pass this up.
It may not have some of the other fancy buttons that other Bluetooth Headsets have, but it comes with the essentials and the quality surpasses anything I've seen on the market.
9.5/10 - Small deduction lack of LED indicators.

Can anyone who has the game check out if it has southpaw controls? The beta didnt, it only had "lefty" controls that changed R1 and L1. I need true southpaw that swaps the sticks so that I get to aim with the left stick and move with the right.
This is crucial information for me because if it doesnt have southpaw, I wont buy the game at all cuz I cant play it properly. I'm as huge a Socom 2 fan as you can find but I just cant play with the default controls so if southpaw isnt included in the final release, I'll have to abandon Socom (as much as it "hurts" to do that)...

I tried to play late yesterday and could not get on the servers and once I was in every game would fail during the start process. I have to agree Six Slant is struggling with an online title with such a large fan base. A PSN release with online only should not have issues allowing players to play online, because it makes the game worthless. I'm sure this will be ironed out in a few days/weeks, but it sucks to buy it and have issues playing on day one. Man people are calling for Sony's head on this.
I then went to the official blog to see how the people there are responding and just went to the last comment page to see if they cooled down and nope...
So then, it made me REALLY agree with this guy:
THIS is why you don’t release online only games, if you can’t connect to a game all you have is a $60 coaster. How incompetent do you have to be to not be ready for the release of one of your brands flagship titles.
Real shocker that Sony got caught with its pants down again concerning the PS3, it’s no wonder Sony and the PS3 are in the position they’re in this gen. Poor decision after poor decision.
Nameless
10-17-2008, 03:42 PM
^Unfortunately I completely agree...
Socom is an extremely important title, because the game has a huge fan based from the PS2. Honestly I think Six Slant still under estimated the number of players who would purchase this game on day one and hit their servers. If they would have consulted Zipper they could have better prepared for the server load based on PS2 Socom players. I know that would have been aggressive considering the number of PS2 players out there, but it would have been worse case scenario considering server loads.
It's absolutely unacceptable for an online only game to be released and not accessible for every player. I can understand some lag or stability issues, but no access to the server at all is a slap in the face after spending $60 bucks. I really like the included headset, but it's not worth $60 bucks since the fucking game is unplayable.
To make things worse the servers were brought to their knees Wednesday before the PSN version was released, but Sony still allowed more users to purchase the game on the PSN only to be unable to play. Sony & Six Slant need their asses kicked for this bullshit!
Lucent Beam
10-17-2008, 03:54 PM
^That's sad that there's even a situation garnering that kind of reaction.
An instance like this just proves why Nintendo has the right idea of "it'll be done when it's done," despite consumer/fan bitching for a sooner release date. If all companies had this approach, sure maybe games would take a lot longer, but they wouldn't have terrible issues like this is having. I think the problem is that the mentality is "Get out more games faster for more money"... but if you went slower and made sure everything worked... more people would buy that one!
Also... as far as online only games... honestly, I think they are bullshit. I think any game that is completely unplayable without an internet connection is just a lazy cop-out for not having to include anything single player. Sure, some may argue "Well, this makes sure multiplayer is perfected"... well obviously not!
curryking1
10-17-2008, 03:59 PM
The problem is that Sony normally has the idea it's done when it's done.
Why not with SOCOM? Did Slant Six screw up or did Sony not pay enough attention?
I'm just amazed the issue still stands. That's flat out embarrassing.
I think any game that is completely unplayable without an internet connection is just a lazy cop-out for not having to include anything single player. Sure, some may argue "Well, this makes sure multiplayer is perfected"... well obviously not!
I'm really not following that argument. Being online only SOCOM is really hurt by it not working online. It could've happened to any game, but it's that much worse happening to an online-only title.
It really does become a high cost paperweight but that doesn't suddenly strip the value out of other online-only games like Warhawk.
Of being perfected? Things just happen sometimes.

hello,
i wanted to keep everyone up to date on where we are and what we are doing.
The consumer response to socom: Confrontation has been huge. We are consistently seeing almost 100,000 people log in everyday with peaks of 25,000 simultaneous users. On average, you are playing about 3.1 hours per person with a total of 300,000 player hours everyday. I would like to thank all of you for helping to make socom: Confrontation such a great success.
As i'm sure many of you are aware, the launch has not gone without its share of problems. Unfortunately, the server environment is not holding up during peak loads. We've made many changes and improvements to the server to improve the issues (the first few days were really rocky) but we are still seeing server issues when we get up to around 25,000 simultaneous players during peak hours. Our primary focus at this time is to resolve these server issues. We have all available resources looking into the issues and we are trying to resolve them as quickly as possible. It is not as easy as adding more servers, we have to identify and fix the bottlenecks in the system which are preventing the servers from scaling properly. The servers should continue to get progressively better as we roll out server side updates.
As a reminder, our scheduled daily server maintenance is between 5am and 8am pdt (8am to 11am edt). We bring the servers down during this time to roll out updates. The servers will usually only be down for about 20-30 minutes but some updates may take longer.
In parallel to the server updates, we are also working on a new client patch which resolves some client side stability issues. These issues include getting booted to the xmb, large number of players getting disconnected from a specific game and other issues. We've been working on and testing this since the game launched and we should have a final version ready for release in the next week or so. It is hard to provide an exact date or timeframe as we need to make sure the patch is thoroughly tested and does not introduce any new issues.
We are also working on a patch to enable trophies and address various user feedback but this will be after the stability patch. Our top priority is getting both the servers and client as stable as possible before making any changes which could possibly cause other issues. Please continue to provide feedback in the socom: Confrontation playstation.com forum. We do read it and use the feedback to make further changes and tweaks in future updates.

That should have been their response as soon as the BETA rolled out.
AFTER the game launches to say "oh shit we'll fixc it lulz!" is stupid, OF COURSE you'll fix it, but you shouldn't launch it like this.
From reading that it sounds like they are still treating this like a BETA...Sounds like they don't expect people to pay $60 and play their freakin' game at day one.
Anyway hope everything gets fixed, I really want to pick this up.
But I'm having doubts as to wanting to support this kind of mess...We'll see...
I said them that it would be better to delay the game. Screw you SLant Six and Sony.

Let's give them a chance. Well maybe the european version will get the correct version in November lol.
Maybe they should have stuck with European servers, and US servers separated...
But yeah, the current problems are definitely making the game going down in few reviews I' ve seen so far. And for an " only online " MP game experience...It s kinda frustrating.
But hey ! it will certainly get better I hope..Or else let's wait the messah ==> M.A.G , Zipper will save us ! lol

Lolz, CoD5 beta probably has a lot more people at peak times (I'm playing from Europe so ain't playing when US people are playing and I've seen almost 20k players online at the same time) and it works flawlessly while full release Socom goes completely down...

^PS3 doesn't have it.
On 360, when you go to Team Deathmatch for example, it says under the game description "[number of users] are currently playing this game mode".
It's a neat feature, one Infinity Ward were too bitchy to put in the PS3 version [for CallOfDuty 4].
Hopefully we'll have it for CoD5.

Sony just updated the official SOCOM site with some information about the much-needed SOCOM: Confrontation patches. They are working hard on the server issues as you'll see in the statement and the client patch appears to be final testing. Hopefully they will be able to wrap this up and start focusing on additional content...one thing at a time though.
Since the launch of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation in North America, we've been working to address the server and stability issues in order to get them resolved ASAP. We have a team of close to 100 people working to get the issues resolved.
On the server side, we've been updating the SOCOM: Confrontation servers nearly every morning and we have not seen any major server access issues in the last week. We are continuing to optimize the servers and we've also started the process of restoring some game UI (User Interface) features which were disabled on the server side a few days after launch in order to reduce load on the servers.
On the game client side, we are in acceptance testing for the 1.20SOCOM:Confrontation game update.
As mentioned in my previous post, the focus of this patch is to address stability and serious playability issues only.
The 1.20 update addresses many of the freezes and getting booted to the XMB issues. It also addresses the mass game boot (where many players are simultaneously disconnected from a game), the scope offset issue when prone or using the SIXAXIS peek and other issues. We are doing all we can to get this patch released this week but a final date is still TBD until the acceptance testing is complete. Once we have a final date we will post it here on the blog along with a complete fix list.
We are committed to making SOCOM: Confrontation not only the best SOCOM game but the best online shooter period. We appreciate all of your feedback and support.

You shouldn't have been lazy instead of readying the game for launch then.
What BS.
I'm starting to hate this game based on principle and how slack Sony/ devs acted towards it.
BUT if once everything is fixed, it's fun to play, no gamer can refuse :P (actually i might...lol...depends HOW fun).
for the members in the game, please keep the rest of us updated and let us know when the game is made proper, not announced, when it actually is there.
in the mean time, I added Slant Six to my shitty black list along with the Buffy Silent Hill makers. what a fucking disgrace...
here's a hint to publishers: never EVER hand out your biggest franchise to be developed externally. outsource all you want, but keep the core design internal. and this not only goes for popular games, but for those with a strong fanbase like with these two examples.

This game is great guys and I don't understand why you feel Slant Six did a bad job. Yeah the servers have a few issues, but it doesn't make the game unplayable at all and they don't happen as frequently as you all make it seem. I am happy that Slant Six captured the beauty of the old school games were with a mix of new. I play only on the normal sized maps and not the large so I don't know if there are issues between playing on the normal and large maps.

Well things like scoping in. If you scope in while prone, it moves the scope to make it appear as if you are standing up, then your bullet is hitting like 4 inches below the crosshairs. It is almost impossible to snipe while prone.
The quick swap I can never get it to work right.
Other then that I think my biggest gripes are that things have been changed and I just need to adjust, the guns have so much more recoil now and are not nearly as accurate as before. The armor, i hate it. I think it's retarded that some guys can take so many hits just because of armor or whatever, I don't think it should be in the game.
The button layouts, there is no way to customize them. The control sticks aswell, no way to customize them. I hate how reload is the right stick as sometimes I will hit it in the middle of a firefight and there is no way to switch reload to a different button.
so i take it that the headset is teh awesomeness since I didn't hear a single complaint from how it works?
is HQ mode really that noticeable?

BIG. FAT. FAIL!!
(not your informative post, the guys..slant six or whoever developed it)
I want to meet them and say this:
"Motherfucker, what the fuck have you been doing all this time?!?!"
I am always understanding when it comes to bugs, of course some minor or sometimes major ones will slip by now and then.
But when your online only game is unstable, doesn't know the difference between prone aiming and crouch aiming or whatever and you didn't even bother to put in any basic options like control layout change.
BIG FAT FUCKING FAIL!
I don't give a shit if it's a 10/10 when playable, I'm not paying a penny to these lazy assholes.
Sorry to rant [and this will be the last time] but it really pisses me off when people we pay don't give us respect and put out shit like this.
What's a bigger spit in the face is they had a public BETA! And none of the shit from the BETA seems to be fixed!
These kinds of things man....So fucking disrespectful and unacceptable...ESPECIALLY when it's not that much of a complicated project.

And the fact that there is a total of like 7 maps.... seems like they could have had this stuff fixed by release. At least they are addressing the issues though.

The patch is coming tomorrow morning, check socom.com if you don't believe.
what about the headset? all good or is there any issues?
as for the patch, I'll care when the problem is over, not what happens till then. by they way, SOCOM got pushed till exactly the end of next month. so perhaps we'll get it working here.
One question. Do you still need one minute to wait to launch a game/map? I mean they can't be serious. I mean you put the f.... game on a hard disc. Socom 2 maps loaded in max 30 seconds sorry and they had no hard disc drive.

The patch didn't seem to do anything other than stop the booting of people so frequently.
Some of the problems you guys are having are small in my opinion and nothing really major to complain about. I don't even understand why you guys use scopes because I don't use them and I still manage to get kills from good distances away. Why would you even want to go prone in this game? I understand the crosshairs shouldn't move at all while you are in prone, but hey I won't have those kinds of problems when I don't use it at all nor will I ever. I'm a gunner/rusher/sometimes camper.
I do agree the quick switch is terrible and very slow at that, but grenades are barely effective in this game so there really is no point in even taking them out half the time. I do agree the reloading takes far too long in this game, but these are minor issues in my opinion and doesn't make this game unplayable. I understand for some of you this makes or breaks a game, but that's too bad. The maps are laid out well (at least the small ones are), the guns are good, and the competition is there.

11-01-2008, 07:42 PM
Before the patch a lot of people couldn't play it without it freezing or booting them. Even with the patch I have had it freeze my ps3 and boot me still, just doesn't happen often now. If you had played the original ps2 socoms you would know why prone sniping is good.
I like to use scopes to pick people off from a cross the map and also when I snipe. Though now the scope issue is fixed so it's not a problem. The problem wasn't that the scope moved when prone and using a bipod, it was that it raised the camera up and it was at the over the shoulder view again. So say you were standing and zoomed in your scope is going to be at a higher y axis then when you are prone right? Well before the path even if you were prone it would set the scope to the same y axis everytime and it was literally impossible.
The issues are not that small at all when they were included in all the other games and worked. You never go prone and never use scopes, thats fine but for those of us that do it was a major problem.
They are also supposed to fix the grenade radius i believe, right now it is crap, though they shouldn't be so bad so you would want to use them and be able to quick swap.
The guns are decent, though my major problem is that you don't have every gun from the beggining. You have to be in a certain clan to have certain guns which is a dumb idea and an unfair advantage kind of. Then they kind of made it unbalanced by making the terrorist weapons so much better. The 552 and Ak-47 have almost 0 recoil and are so easy to use. All of the seal weapons recoil like crazy, which not a big deal it can be something people get used to but i end up dreading being the seals.
Another thing is that the sniper rifles are also kind of messed up. They took out the m82a1a for the terrorists which at the moment isn't a big deal because the .50 call snipers don't even kill people in one hit or even two sometimes. They also took out the sr25 on the seals side which I think is a huge disadvantage for the seals. The terrorists have silenced snipers, the seals do not? Seems retarded if you ask me, you would think that the seals would be the ones with the better equipment or at least silenced snipers.
I am enjoying the game though now that it works, but I think there are some things they need to work on still.
This should not be considered a guarantee that these items will be in the 1.30 update, but we did want to give everyone a heads up as to what is on our plate currently.
