Hopefully Ubisoft do a better job this time round with the PS3 version.

And mouse and keyboard support for those people with console denial.
I dont have a link to this but i remember reading an article that said Ubisoft was handling development internally so no CRYTEK involvement meaning their special PS3 team are obviously working on something else maybe a port of Crysis.
Also i remember reading that Ubisoft is using the Assasinss Creed engine for this game which i love so yeah! :)

Ubisoft owns the Far Cry IP since they were the original publisher for Crytek (this is the reason why Crytek's game is called Crysis).
Ubisoft has no involvement with Crytek what so ever (Crytek has EA as a publisher now).
I know Ubisoft have the rights but arent CRYTEK still independant? A dev can have many publishers for their different IP'S and also work on other publishers IP'S so i would have thought that Ubisoft might have approached them to do Far Cry 2 and they declined because of exisiting commitments.

Since Crytek isn't developing this one, I don't think I'll be interested but we'll see.
By the way, Crysis has been quite a big flop on PC. I wonder if they'll consider console ports now.

Crysis seems like a pure graphic demo for the most and a lot of people think its unplayable on a usual PC.
EDIT: And im not really interested in FC2 because its from Ubi and i didnt liked the gameplay from the first so much.

Crysis is definitely fun, but the team's aspirations for being the top of the line graphical showcase has seriously limited the people that can enjoy it.
I honestly think that Crysis' sales figures will pick up when many pc gamers will have affordable rigs that can run it (ala sometime this year).

Usually, a game's sales don't improve to the point that it becomes successful eventually when it fails in its first 3 months. We'll see if this is an exception, but I really don't think so.

Crysis is just to powerful for it's own good. The reason that it is not selling like gang busters is because of the hype of it being to powerful. And it is true. But that is okay. I am betting Crysis will be coming out for both 360 and PS3. BTW, Crysis is totally fun and totally kicks ass!
As for Far Cry 2, i am none to thrilled that Crytek is not making it. Who is making it? What is their track record? It could kick ass for all we know. Bit I don't give it much chance for that to happen. I suspect it will be mediocre at best.

I think Ubi montreal makes it but im not sure.
Well from what i have read Far Cry was brilliant on PC ( i never played the game to be honest this is just what i have heard ) but the console port was utterly crap so maybe with Ubi at the reigns it will get a better conversion cause i have only ever heard good things about the original game on PC.
Hopefully Ubi will fix up some bugs on the AC engine and their wont be more frame rate and freezing issues like in AC.

Yes the PC version of Far Cry was just bad ass and the console version sucked dead monkey choad. That is what I am afraid of. It is like this case of EA porting the Orange Box. On the PC it rocks, on the PS3 it has major problems.
But considering this is an all new game and not a port bodes a little better for the dev. I hope they do a good job, but we shall see.....

Crytek worked on the PC version, while Ubisoft handled the console ports themselves...so...hopefully they have gotten their act together with this title.

I still don't see the big deal about this series. It's just a damn tech demo, for Christ's sakes. It's not really doing anything fairly well, or innovative. Just an open environment FPS.
Blah, whatever.
Yet ANOTHER title on the shelf, sterilizing the industry even further.

To tell you the truth, the original far cry (although it looked open) was extremely linear clunky and was completely unbalanced (fighting mutants that one hit kill is no fun).
Crysis though is a different beast altogether and actually gets the formula right. You can actually use the large environments to your advantage this go around, the powers of the suit really give you many new options as to how to play through large portions of the game, not to mention that the entire physics of the environment is there waiting to be experimented with.
Crysis can be easily played like a tradition shooter, but someone with extra imagination can make the game much more interesting.
Edit: Yes the game can be easily be used (or seen) as a tech demo, but that's just a side effect of what the dev team was aiming for.
Besides, Crysis is innovative in that fact that no other shooter plays like it (open environments....nano suit?). Not to mention that it provides a level of interactivity that no other game has ever matched (that has to mean something).
I'm still on the fence with Far Cry 2 though. The new tech they have can do some interesting things, but I wonder if they can truly utilize the open world they are creating?

I'd say Crysis would sell if it wasn't so badly pirated :P
PC gamers won't buy games as long as they get them for free. Period.
When they release it on Xbox and PS it will sell millions.
As for Far Cry 2, yay. Far Cry didn't feel that linear, they managed to hide the tube running syndrome really well with seemingly free roaming jungle environments which eventually weren't that free. But I really liked the game back then.

Most PC gamers won't buy games when they have to spend several thousand dollars on upgrading their rig every two years, just to play the new games in full quality.

Well, to be honest, the initial reports on Crysis being a flop only took NPD figures into account. A lot of people seem to believe that if a game isn't that successful in the US, it's a failure. I guess Crysis had healthy sales worldwide.

I loved the original far cry, it was hard, but boy was it fun, and still good looking today.
Crysis was OK, but not as good, it was just so overrated and not that great looking considering the insane requirements for it.
I hope they make far cry 2 closer to the original then crysis.

Screw that, the original Far Cry was great fun until the mutants came. They were so unreasonably cheap. They take forever to kill and they kill you in one freakin hit.
Crysis was much better balanced in my opinion.

Clearly you haven't seen Crysis on medium, high, or very high (that's just a slide show though).
There are no PC games out today that even come close to it graphically. Maybe this year, but for right now it is definitely the king. The system requirements are steep, but I fully understand why.

Crysis was like the original far cry in structure already. I think FC2 needs to be truly open instead of just having larger linear paths.

Hmmm... I'm playing Crysis on high settings with an overclocked 8800 GT (512 MB), 4 GB of RAM, a more powerful than recommended CPU and getting good framerates at 1280x1024 and I'm not all that impressed. There are great effects, enemies seem clever, it moves tons of polygons, the physics are nice but that's about everything that impresses me. The LOD is terrible, way too aggressive. The textures are not all that good, only the character textures and some decent bump mapping look really great. Honestly, I'm more impressed with Uncharted.

As a comparison to a normal system, I run Crysis at 20-40 frames (really depends on whats happening, but usually quite fluid) on my meager system^^ Add to that, I run all on High (except textures, those are on medium) and in DX9 at 1680x1050
X2 3800+ EE (no OC, but does neatly overclock to 2.4)
1x8800GTS 320MB
2GB RAM
Tbh, Crysis only looks good to me... I don't say great, because the art direction is ... well non-existant except at the end. Basically, it IS Far Cry 2. And, it is buggy as hell, performs like shit and is imho only a mediocre shooter (MY VIEW!!!).

LOL.... i knew that would grab someone's attention. well we get KZ2 and RFOM this year which are set to push the PS3 even harder, then we have that game the BBC guy saw who said it was better than either of those games i've mentioned above. add into that a few games we probably haven't heard of and the fact that Insomniac have said they will be able to improve their games two-fold for the next 4 years and naughty dog saying that they used 33% of cell... is it that much of a stretch to imagine a game as good if not better than crisis in (lets say) late 2009 to early 2010? come on, we all know how the PS2 quality leapt by the time we hit GOW and the PS3 is going to be a bigger leap, year on year out.

Actually now that I got an old gfx card (Radeon X1950Pro) but whole lot better than my previous (Nvidia 6800GT) I can play Crysis with great graphics.
My workhorse (AMD64 3200+, 1GB DDR RAM) is heaving but manages to pump it up and it's a nice little game. On extreme settings the game tastes like cotton candy but it's menacing to the core. And I guess you gotta have at least 512MB GFX card, supposedly Nvidia, to get it to the max.
But anyone loving their FPS can't dislike Crysis. The dynamic lighting and environments are the best I've ever seen. The jungle environment really feels like it's alive and that's something I've rarely seen in a game.

It only got the hype because of the graphics.
But im still unsure about FC2, its still Ubisuck and they hate to port properly.
I not only love the graphics, but the 'living world' they created with gravity, wind, fire, even the grass is real. this is a tech demo on steroids! remember the planets growing they showed on PS3 in 05? well, this game does it! they showed an entire scene where the guy pressed a button and all the trees disappeared. he pushed another command and ALL the trees started growing again. not one or two, all the ones in the scenery. amazing!

Driving can be a bit of a slog from point A to point B cause the maps are huge and everybody shoots at you there are no Friendly pedestrians like in GTA, Buddy AI is pathetic they are absolutley useless at times but you dont really need them and finally respawning chechpoints ( Getting from point A to B can be frustrating as you sometimes have to pass these checkpoints and defend yourself and move on to point B.
Other than those little gripes its an amazing game with a dynamic story, amazing enemy AI, Africa is beautiful, Guns have real power/weight to them, the fire effects are amazing, playing at night time is like playing a completley different game where enemies and yourself have to adjust to the darkness and the game has great value for money im 40 hours into the game with about another 15 missions to complete. Hope that helps gnznroses.

Cool, thanks. I hated GTA4 and COD tho, lol.
I probably won't buy it just cause I already bought 3 other games.

The game has a lot of great functions like easy car repairing, nice environments, cool fire effects and stuff.
But it does feel like a very tedious game when you get right down to it. Let it be known that it is well made for a tedious game... just that it ends up being very tedious. There's too little to do other than complete missions.
The game is essentially all shooting-driving-shooting-somewhere-else-drive-again and it gets quite repetitive. In a GTA game there was a lot of freedom of picking different cars, finding many routes to the same destination and a lot more game world interactivity. Far Cry 2 doesn't have a lot of things that fill in the blanks like GTAs of past had.
I'd give it a thuper 3 stars out of 5!
Just finished the game today and i would rate it 8/10.
Another something I downloaded for free on the PC ;D
I ended up getting a copy for the Xbox on my birthday, I'll probably trade it in.
I didn't play too much of it, from what I saw there was potential - but all wrapped in a rather uninspired package.
Graphically, very good... but, Crysis (the real far cry) is still a good bit ahead.
Although, impressive graphics are a little closer to home with FC2 - IE - you don't need a 5K $ PC to get your wow factor.
