Thread title says it all. I'm pretty sure this extends to other platforms as well. I'm actually quite indifferent at the moment...to everything, but that should change, but I'm sure this will be exciting for at least some people on this forum.

It really does look nice, though.

EDIT: It is also on PC and 360

Today, Ubisoft announced that Far Cry® 2 is being developed for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system among other next-gen platforms. Far Cry 2 is a next-generation first-person shooter being created by Ubisoft’s Montreal development studio.

More than just a visual and technological achievement, Far Cry 2 immerses players in an entirely new kind of gaming experience, featuring a custom-made video game engine built from the ground up. Players will discover a true open world gameplay set in one of the most beautiful environments in the world, Africa, brought to life by high-definition next-gen technology.

If Far Cry 2 lives up to the heritage left behind by the first instalment, gamers will have a lot to look forward to. The original Far Cry set the benchmark for first person shooters the world over when it released almost 4 years ago. Featuring unprecedented graphics of deep blue waters and lush green jungles, Far Cry was simply stunning to look at. But the gameplay and physics models were equally impressive. Now Far Cry 2 is set to do it all over again, scheduled to ship fiscal 2008–2009. We'll keep our eyes peeled for this one!

Ubisoft has confirmed that Far Cry 2 is coming to both the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

Under development at Ubisoft Montreal, the next-gen FPS/RPG will recapture the spirit of the original game: gunning down mercenaries in a picture postcard location. Only now the glistening islands of the Pacific have been traded for the dusty savannah of Africa, rendered in an all-new, very next-gen graphics engine: ‘Dunia’.

What does this mean? It means that Dunia works cross-platform, that’s what. The de facto standard in next-gen multi-platform development, Unreal Engine 3, has been notoriously difficult to get working cross-platform, specifically on the PS3. Clearly, Ubisoft considers smooth multi-platform support crucial, and has invested accordingly.

By fostering their own exclusive engine in-house, Ubisoft has created both a hedge against the risk of using code from outsiders, and a demonstrable technical advantage over firms that use middleware as a crutch.

The only downside to this announcement is that the release date of Far Cry 2 has been pushed back to ‘Fiscal 08/09’, which means somewhere between April Fool’s Day and March 31 next year. Apparently, we have Assassin’s Creed to thank for this – in the wake of its runaway success, Ubisoft reshuffled its release schedule to better cook the books.
