But I REALLY doubt it. They are very nice though.

Heavenly Sword's faces in real time cutscenes didn't look that far away from that. Not that I'd believe those truly are real time before I find out more about it, but we'll see.

It's indeed real time , like the vids and the demo we' ve seen so far :

This short clip had been taken on Thursday, May, 3rd at the German fmx 2007 conference in Stuttgart, where Guillaume de Fondaumière, Co-CEO of Quantic Dream held a note on animation in games. It shows the use of new additional facial motion capture data in un-edited and no-key frame animated state - raw data. Also the eye movement had not been captured or animated.

[B]Guillaume did talk about the different artistic and technical aspects and challenges surrounding the creation of realistic characters in realtime 3D. He highlighted the different issues using some video footage taken from the "Casting" demo created last year for Playstation 3 as well as some more complementary documentation and making-of material. In that matter he explained the particularities of actor's performances using new high resolution motion capture equipment (Vicon system) and the constraints that the actress Aurélie Bancilhon had to face. Unfournately Aurélie Bancilhon couldn't come to this session.

These could be in-game if the game is an interactive-movie/interactive cutscene or even a myst-like adventure game with no enemy AI/no enemies. Do we know any gameplay details yet?

I believe they are real-time, and most likely in-game. Seriously.

This game won't have thousands of characters on screen, or wild special effects. Looking at what a game like HS can do with so much happening on screen, this doesn't seem impossible.

OMG HOLY SHIT! This game will NOT let down. It cant, I CANT....CANT FUCKIN WAIT. Just hope it is actually in game shots. But this isnt a "pre-rendered, go to cutscene" type of game. Its all gameplay if Indigo Prophecy is anything to learn from.

If this can be on the level of Indigo Prophecy but MUCH better, award winning game right here.

Please who are you trying to kid? You know the developers pedigree with Farenheidt/Indigo Prophecy combined with that last pic of the book with cast of characters and eye catching one liner. Add to that the fact that Phil Harrison was getting shit for Lair and other bad Sony exclusives he signed at which point he announced this exclusive with his bosses probably scrutinizing his every move.

Again i say who are you trying to kid your just as excited as us:)

The thing I like most in those HD pictures are the blood vessels in the sclerae. Making the eyes look natural is probably the hardest thing to achieve in realtime characters (besides hair and skin).

Right now, her eyes movement and blinking are too frantic. If they slow it down a bit, she'll look more natural.

I find this good, it adds tension into the scene, as she seems to be quite nervous. Also, I don't think it looks unnatural (maybe because I didn't listen to the sound, listening to speedmetal^^), but that maybe just me

The "oilyness" of her skin and the eyes are nigh on perfect. No more plastic look etc., which makes many "realistic looking games" look bad.

What I too found very impressive, that the eyes don't just close the lids, but the muscles too shut the eye from beneath. The animation is very good indeed

Kotaku: New Heavy Rain Details (http://kotaku.com/366150/new-heavy-rain-details-spilled-lapped-up)

On Locations:
"I don't want to do a big free-roaming city like GTA, because the flow of the story will then be hard to control. Nevertheless, I do want to incorporate big sets, with a crowd, heavy populated areas like a mall and a subway are going to be in there. Of course, the gameplay has got to make use of that aspect too."

On Graphics:
"People will be surprised. Internal (Sony's) feedback on graphics has been great. This is going to be a truly next-gen game. But still, we want to do something unique with the graphics, going beyond just making the most photorealistic world we can."

On Gameplay:
"With the release of Fahrenheit, we gave the adventure genre a new grammar. We brought new ways into the genre, new words if you want to see it like that, a new vocabulaire. With Heavy Rain, where going to expand on that same grammar."

On Story:
"Heavy Rain is about normal people that have landed in extraordinary situations. I wanted a much more personal story. The first thing that came to my mind, as a father of two little boys, was that the main theme should simply be a father's love for his son. This is not a game about saving the princess or the world. Its purely about a father's love."

"The main story will revolve around 4 different characters, and we're putting the spotlight on their perceptions. The question 'what is good and what is evil' is the key here, that will be just a matter of viewpoint...I believe heavily in moral choices, I'm going to use them A LOT. They're not about being good or bad, but about finding the right balance."

So far, so good. Thanks to Saimon for all the hard work on this one.

I have to disagree with you there cause this game spawned a tree of games where one action or lack of action spawned a multitude of different outcomes and they did this on the PS2. The story telling from the perspective of the entire cast of NPC'S was also amazing. In my opinion the game was way ahead of its time. Look at how this has evolved in games like Mass Effect and Fallout.

Mass Effect = Knight Of The Old Republic which released in 2003.
Indigo Prophecy released in 2005.

Fallout released in 1997 so I don't know where you were going with that one.

The only thing Indigo Prophecy had going for it was story telling which turned to shit near the end.

And the whole "playing from everyone's perspective" made the game pointless.
At one point I was hiding evidence as the criminal and then the next bit, playing the cop that was trying to find it.....What was the fucking point lol
It was like playing hide and seek with yourself :/

Believe me no-one wanted Indigo Prophecy to pwn as much as I, I even got really annoyed when it picked up ~%70 review scores but it simply wasn't all it was built up to be (hence me calling this guy Peter Molyneux) and some gameplay aspects (the bit i explained for example) really ruined it.

And don't get me started on the Shenmue like quick button press sequences where they COVERED YOUR WHOLE SCREEN with buttons and you couldn't see what the hell was going on so it was basically a game of Dance Dance Revolution lol

Ahhh, I would say "i have high hopes for Heavy Rain" but with this douche bag running the hype train into a wreck and Indigo Prophecy being a potential ball of awesomeness being a big ball of 'meh', I can't get excited about Heavy Rain until I play it and it turns out to be awesome.

EDIT: Oh my god just remembered the flashback stealth bits in Indigo Prophecy....ARGH!

I liked Fahrenheit (Euro Name for Indigo Prophecy)^^

Yeah, the end sucked... but still, the "tilt" (whatever that may mean^^) was great... And having sex in a game was a new one^^ (Gotta love it, that you can sex yourself up in both GoW games^^). Prude Americans (and YES, this one you can generalize!!)

I am still missing a game, that does not involve shooting, where your main char is a woman. There are Tomb Raider and Heavenly Sword, yet those are "action adventures". A story driven game (I really prefer a good story to everything else... thus MGS1-4 are MY games) etc...

I just hope, Heavy Rain is a bit longer than all those games released over the last year... I hate short games^^ I always feel ripped off by them, even if I only rented them (i.e. HS)...

EDIT: Oh my god just remembered the flashback stealth bits in Indigo Prophecy....ARGH!

I was talking about the new Fallout 3 game where you can blow up a entire town and that would effect your entire gaming experience. As for Mass Effect i seriously doubt KOTOR had you decide which one of your squad you choosed to die and wipe out from the game or to aggravate existing members into a fight or calm them into staying the course with you. I know Indigo didnt do that much but what it did it did well on hardware like the PS2.

Add to that the amazing concept of playing all the characters really gave you sense of knowing them on a personal level which no other game has ever done. You say you didnt like the character switching because you had to hide and then find the evidence with another character. I think you missed the point being, telling the story from the perspective of all the characters in the story and binding them together for the end. Many movies have done this with great success so i dont see whats so wrong with it in this game. The only time i recall having the de javu vibe was the first chapter in the restaurant which was neccessary as a starting point from there the stories of characters were completley different in the processes that would lead to their conclusion. I dont know about anyone else but started loving all the charaters in the game and started to wonder weather by doing one thing like tracking a killer i would be eliminating another character i liked.
Now imagine if Cage takes this to the next level of NPC character interaction where killing the killer eliminates him completley from the game therefore changing your story completly. Thats just one stupid example but the opportunities to expand on what he started with Indigo Prochecy are limitless.

The only 2 things i would have complained about would be too much paranormal in the story and the fact that i thought they could have done more in terms of the controls for combat instead of making all your fights one long QTE after the other. Other than that the game was a gem and the man deserves his praise. I
