Johnny Depp wins his first Golden Globe!! (http://adaylatefriend.blogspot.com/2008/01/golden-globe-winners-announced.html)
Well I am sure excited to hear that Depp finally gets some hardware for his acting. Other big winners include Atonement for Drama of the year, Sweeney Todd for Comedy/Musical of Year, and Mad Men for Drama TV show of Year.
What does everyone think of the winners?

She likes not respecting anything, it's her life motto.
And on the awards.......I never cared and I don't know who or what half these things are but the ones I do know seem like an alright choice, I don't know.
Nothing inspiring enough to win an award but whatever, they should really stop hosting these things.

Who cares, if anything someone needs to start bitch slapping writers. I have grown very tired of their whinging, especially since its now delayed 24 starting.

why? i mean i don't agree or disagree, i just wondered.it started with the nominee announcements. no paul thomas anderson for director, no johnny greenwood for score, the inclusion of the great debaters and american gangster, because one mediocre denzel washington movie wasn't enough. angelina jolie, jodie foster, cate blanchett, denzel washington all getting nominations because they decided to be in a movie that year and no matter how much more deserving other people might be just to be nominated the same old crap.
this is usual, and i really was just writing it off as another thing that, you know, is part of the awards, you nominate the big stars so they'll be there and nominate the oprah movie so that oprah doesn't have you killed but the results of this was just a sad tantrum of 'we don't get to have our show' well then lets award anything that's the farthest away from america as possible when possible.
which wouldn't bother me, actually none of it would bother me, if atonement hadn't won best picture. this is akin to the nail in the coffin of me having respect for oscars when chicago got a three-hour analingus session in 2003.
believe it or not, before this year, i actually only respected the golden globes out of all the award shows, even when i didn't agree i could still understand where they were coming from... and also the whole thing just looked like a pathetic way to say, if america's strike problem won't let us have our show then we'll show all those americans and american supporters that won't let us have our party how we do.
that being said, all of their choices i can still understand and most of the time agree with, with the exception of atonement and cate blanchett. i'm not trying to bag on either movie though, but no matter how much i like the english patient 2.0 that doesn't make it anything besides kind of interesting.
have i rambled enough?

"waaa 312542154542 bazillion dollars & syndication money isn't enough, we are going on strike.." oh just fuck off already...you sir, are an idiot.
first of all, 24 was already delayed because of keifer driving around drunk and having to go to jail and work his schedule around that.
second, on average a member of the wga makes about 35000 dollars a year, which isn't nothing but a far cry from 312542154542 bazillion dollars.
the last time they negotiated was in 1988. included in that was about .4% residuals from each home video sold at the time, which were selling for about 50 dollars each, the writers settled on .4% royalties because the amptp said that home video was a burgeoning market and they really had no way of knowing if it was ever going to be profitable. cut to 2007, the price has dropped to an average of 15 dollars. now, besides the market of home videos having quadrupled in revenue since then and the much smaller amount of money it costs to make, distribute and eventually sell dvds, writers are still getting the same amount they would've in 1988 because they couldn't renegotiate until now when their contracts expired.
now, that was what they originally wanted, but the amptp rejected that and so the writers said, okay, fine, then we just want you to apply the same royalty rules to online content as well. but they rejected that as well, because online content is a burgeoning market and they really have no way of knowing if it is ever going to be profitable.
this strike is a long time coming and is not just about the writers. the writers are establishing a precedent for the actors and directors that would've been striking next year for the exact same things if the writers hadn't started now. the actors and directors are so happy they don't get to be the scapegoats for stupid people who refuse to inform themselves though.

I think it's a bad idea to start bitch slapping writers.
Shit, without them, there's not a single good fucking show out there, or be made/written.
I think it's their right to have this strike.
Although Late night with Conan is funny even without the writers just because of how much air time he tries to fill in by doing pointless stuff.

Watching Conan try to fill up time with random stuff is often more entertaining than anything with the guests. And for the longest time I thought he was incapable of growing a beard.

Someone please pay the writers so Conan can be happy again.

The writers whinge for a fair work deal.
You whinge for a TV show you won't get to see as soon.

Cause on average they are hurting for money... I believe they need to get paid, but the length of time in this stand off is ridiculous. I blame both sides for carrying this on too far/too long.
Hopefully they come back and make up to the viewers with something good and not crap, the viewers are the hand that feeds them and right now they are biting it. My bitching about 24 was more a whinge on how long this has gone on for and how both sides need to make some sacrifices and wrap it up.
4,434 Hollywood guild writers worked full-time last year.
Average salary: $204,000
Many earned $1 million or more

How is it "too long" when you believe the writers need to get paid?
If the writers haven't yet been given a fair deal, surely it is 'not long enough.'
And is it really "ridiculous" to do all you can to improve your life?
Hopefully they come back and make up to the viewers with something good and not crap,
What reason do you have to expect that the writers won't do their jobs as well as before?
the viewers are the hand that feeds them and right now they are biting it.
Such a simplification is a narrow slice of the situation.
I would say that the viewer feeds the networks, and as such, indirectly, the writers.
The writers feed the networks, which in turn feeds the viewers.
The networks feed the writers and the viewers.
The networks were biting the hands of the writers, but now the writers are biting back.
The viewers, not being collectively strong-willed enough, or indeed unified at all, are in no position to bite anyone and therefore feel overlooked and impotent.
My bitching about 24 was more a whinge on how long this has gone on for and how both sides need to make some sacrifices and wrap it up.
What would you say the sacrifices are that writers need to make?

That's for 4,434 guild writers who worked full-time.
But there are over 12,000 guild writers on strike.
They didn't all make that much money.

They can bite it as hard as they want, quite frankly. What are you going to do about it? Stop watching television? The only reason you hate how long this strike is going for is because you seem to be incapable of living without it.

I'd like these shows more if they gave me all the awards.
