The gaming giant is expanding east:
Electronic Arts is poised to make a significant expansion in online-friendly Korea.
Image A report in the English edition of Korean business site Chosun said that the Redwood City, Calif.-based videogame giant would be investing upwards of $20 million to establish an online game development base in Korea.

EA would set up the new studio within the year, and churn out three or four new online games, according to the report.

Led by senior producer Danny Isaac, the studio would hire from Korea's talent pool.

An unnamed EA source told the paper, "The size of the studio hasn't been decided yet. First we plan to recruit dozens of workers to develop the 'NBA Street' and 'Battlefield' online games, but if we have more applicants than expected we may increase the size of the studio and develop another game.”

EA had announced in 2007 that it would be partnering with Korea-based online gaming company Neowiz as part of a $105 million investment. The publisher confirmed a few months later that it would be bringing DICE's Battlefield franchise to Asia.

The megapublisher has already seen success in Korea with FIFA Online through its relationship with Neowiz.

EA's Asian expansion also involves bringing EA Mythic's MMORPG Warhammer Online to the continent.
