was the star trek trailer any good?

The Star Trek trailer seemed cool, yea. It seemed more like it was the way way beginning of Enterprise, like before it was even built. Interesting for me even.

Guys, see it, I'm not kidding. It's such a ride. It felt like I was on a roller coaster the entire time.

I saw it a couple of days ago and forgot to make a thread about it. It really was totally awesome. Some of my friends felt sick and got headaches cause theyre noobs and because its shacky cam the whole way through. I liked how they didnt specifically... wait this could be a spoiler....

I liked how they didnt specifically say they were aliens or mutations or anything. I really liked how they didnt say how, why, when (etc) they got there and didnt show if they died or not. The only thing I didnt like was how they didnt show the monster enough. Like when they were coming back across the roof from saving the girl, the camera man looked to the left and saw the monster coming towards them, but then he pointed it infront of him again. :( I should also note that although I never watch drama bullcrap movies cause they just dont interest me, I was really getting into the start bit and almost forgot a monster was about to tear up the place. The characters and situations and stuff were really engaging.

The only way to cure that is to not come into the thread until youve seen the movie. Thats what I do.

Cinemas are a rip off and they feed corporate film industry and kill creativity (well they don't but they make it hard to make creative films get seen).

Just torrent it instead, this way your girlfriend wouldn't need to go with you, she can just stay with you and watch.

Shut up you hippy! This movie is pretty creative and you should pay so that the fellas that made it earn some money and hopefully decide to make more movies.

Contrary to what I said earlier in this very thread, I just went to see it with some friends. I enjoyed it a lot. the ending was a bit of a letdown, but really, you had to see it coming (based on the beginning). there were a number of parts where it managed to surprise by avoiding typical action/horror movie cliches, but also a lot of places where it was just kind of retarded (who owns a digital camera with built-in night vision just to take videos of his girlfriend with it?)

overall, i give it three zeeps.

here's a quick rundown.

1 - Monster is lame up close. There's like two versions; one the far away fish/whale looking beast that is all skin, then the up close boney looking monster that looks nothing like the one from earlier.

2 - Ending sucks. There's a little too much "Lost" thinking put into this film. J.J. Abrams needs to stop his god complex thinking he's above the audience and just deliver the goods rather than make them go around digging on the internet with speculation. Abrams isn't Scorsese like he did with Taxi Driver.

3 - It's about 10 minutes too long. They could have cut the last 10 or so minutes and compact it. Rather, we get this superficial ending that wants its audience begging for a sequel. What the film actually produced is actually the opposite as many are asking "WTF" and "give me my money back." I, for one, liked the film, so I am not from either one of those groups.

4 - I liked the no name people. I didn't like the PG-13 Rating. It could have showed more violence/gore to assist with the lackluster action scenes that stall at the end.

5 - Lastly, the monster doesn't do too much damage by the end of the film within the scope of what the camera captures. Also, the camera man / best bud of the main character is hilarious and the leading factor why I liked the film. If it wasn't for Hudson/Hud, I wouldn't recommend people watch the film to get a perspective for themselves.

Saw it with some mates, got back half an hour ago, good movie! I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10. The end was poor and the start dragged on for way too long but the scope of the film and the feel of the action was great. I liked how it was directed in first person with no real main character and it gave a cool scenario. The night vision thing was lame and the way the camera didn't die around loud explosions with shit going everywhere was stupid but all up it was good.

Good to hear. I intend to see it Sunday afternoon. I only read the first few posts and then stopped because I don't yet know what the monster looks like and want to keep it that way. I've heard a bunch of positive feedback so far, so that's encouraging.

Spoilers Ahead:

A fair few cameras have a shitty night vision filter thing so i dont know what you guys are complaining about. The only thing i found wrong with this was when he decided to turn it on and what was hiding there when he did.

Because this movie is so vague I kind of figured it didnt really show if the first one was killed. I suspect this one could be another new monster.

For the record, I think theyre aliens as opposed to monsters or mutations or government experiments.

Alright, I've seen it, and I generally approve of it. It was a bit shallow, despite what seemed to be some attempt at character development, and the shaky-cam was about periodically irritating, but that was expected. Otherwise, I enjoyed it and appreciate the first-person perspective approach for a genre that needed some different approaches.

I know it's not for everybody. As I was leaving the theater, the woman sitting behind me declared "That was the dumbest movie I've ever seen." I expect that from folks, but we all knew what we were seeing before seeing it, so if it was that bad for her, why would she even go see it in the first place? I'm not sure what movies she was into, but would talking/dancing/singing rodents (Alvin and the Chipmunks) be any less dumb? How about musicals wherein ordinary folks on the street spontaneously burst into choreographed song and dance? I bit my tongue on the way out.

From all I have read I am going to rent this movie on Netflix. I am sure it will be on Blu Ray when it comes out. That way if it sucks I will not have wasted $30 bucks on crap. Thanks for the input. I hate professional critics and rarely listen to any of them.

I saw it last night, I enjoyed it a lot. I thought the beginning was going to go forever, thought.

There's a couple things I'm wondering though...

The girl that got bit by those crab things and she was taken away by a quarantine team. What happened to her? It looks like they took her in another room and literally blew her up or something, but the camera kept moving that I couldn't tell. Also, what happened to the girl that escaped in the other helicoptor? Did she survive? They don't really explain that.

This movie should be made as an FMV game for Sega CD.

EDIT: I thought it was awesome, btw.

The movie explained nothing about anything. However, i do know the characters at the end are still alive. There was a backwards message after the credits rolled which seems to be the last thing the camera captured. The voice said "we are still alive" or "i am still alive" backwards.

I think because of the virus or whatever was in her, she exploded. Her face was bleeding so they took her into the room and she exploded by herself. I think the other helicopter just went off so we can assume that other girl survived. Come to think of it I forgot all about that person until now.

I enjoyed it for what it was. Think Blair Witch meets Godzilla without the eyeball rolling bullshit of the former.

It was a refreshing angle on a genre not done often enough these days.

Sure it left you with dozens of questions but that was intended by design. It wouldn't make sense for them to learn the origin of the creature given the circumstances for example.

The message says "it's still alive", talking about the creature.

The chick who flew away in the helicopter is the only one that might've survived.

Okay, so I'm just back from seeing this and as I type I feel as though I've been in the car for about two hours. Not too sick, but sick none the less. While I didn't enjoy the motion sickness I did feel as though the particular style they were shooting in and it made the movie much more effective.

I thought it was okay, I enjoyed it, but I didn't feel that it was as epic as I wanted it to be. Blame that on hype I guess.

I don't know what it is but am I the only person who gets disappointed every time some new form of monster is shown on screen? I don't know. It just seemed very generic in regards to character design. My Girlfriend wasn't as keen however and I'd imagine it's because she's happy to sit in a fairly linear, point to point movie with a happy ending. It was a nice perspective to shoot from, more of a social document than a movie that's actually trying to progress the story-line.

Oh and I also enjoyed the start of the movie as you really developed a sense of interest for the characters. Actually to the point that you completely forgot what kind of movie you're watching, very well done I thought.
