View Full Version : Final Brawl Character List *SPOILERS, duh*
I cannot supply you with a source for this information. It was told to me by a friend who I, personally, trust highly with information regarding the internet and/or videogames. He tells me this information was posted independently by multiple sources, and though no screenshots or videos were posted, much of the information matches well with screenshots that were posted after this information was released. I can't force you to believe me, but that's not my problem.
Read on only if you want to know what I, at this time, firmly believe is the final character list for Brawl.
If you define a "character" as being anyone selectable at the character select screen (meaning Sheik/Zelda are one character, Samus/ZSS, etc.), there are 23 characters already confirmed. The game has 35 total. In addition, the character select screen has an icon for "Random". The full Character Select screen, thus, has 36 icons in 9 columns of 4. Since the icons shift around as new characters are unlocked, once all are unlocked they are arranged by series. Here are the 12 not yet announced on the Dojo:
Returning
Marth
Luigi
Captain Falcon*
Ness
Falco*
Jigglypuff
Ganondorf*
Mr. Game & Watch
Newcomers
Wind Waker Link**
Lucario
Wolf
R.O.B.
* Although these characters were "clones" in Melee, they now have fully unique move sets.
** Basically a replacement of Young Link, WW Link also has a unique move set.

Wind Waker Link is just what I wanted to see.
If all the clones have unique movesets, I find it hard to believe that there will be Fox, Falco and Wolf all together with different enough moves.
Also, wasnt there meant to be another 3rd party character?
*still doesnt believe anything until I see screenshots*
...also, for the record, the first thing i looked at was your post count to see if this was a joke. :)

on gametrailers they are showing the newcomers but at the start of the clips they show a possible title select screen (with a ? so people dont go saying its real). i think it looks fairly real but the reason i bring it up is because it actually contains alot of the characters listed in the first post.
character list from GT clips:
Bowser Jr
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Bowser
Yoshi
Zelda/Shiek
Link
Midna
Ganondorf
Windwaker Link
K. Rool
Donkey Kong
Diddy Kong
Ridley
Samus
Dark Samus
Pokemon Trainer
Pikachu
Lucario
Jigglypuff
Mewtwo
Wolf
Fox
Krystal
Meta Knight
Kirby
King Dedede
Wario
Ashley (from WarioWare)
Ike
Micaiah (Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn)
Sonic
Mr Game & Watch
Pit
Ice Climbers
Captain Falcon
Black Bull (F-Zero bad guy)
Ness
Lucas
Megaman (maybe, it's too blurry to read the name but could be him)
Olimar
Snake
that's 44 characters (4 rows of 11)
it looks good but a bit sus. i mean i thought Dark Samus would have been one of Samus' alternate skins and i wouldnt have picked Ashley or Black Bull as playable characters.
we'll see soon enough

well.... I am not looking at Zeeps post or the image on gametrailers.....
however.... I do know the gametrailers one is completely fake..... some of the images of the characters are photoshoped-in artwork...and some not even from their latest game.

yes, i've seen screenshots from the gametrailers video and it's very fake. it doesn't quite match the style of the game's menus we've seen so far, and much of the artwork for the characters was just straight pulled from other games.

Famitsu Translations and Images!
Tons of Info and Starting Roster Revealed!
I was just emailed by one of my reliable contacts from Japan, Kashikomarimashita (the guy who gaves us the CoroCoro scans both times), and he bought the latest Famitsu magazine. Here's some images, and below them is what was said in the magazine:
# Final Destination is now 100% completely confirmed.
# The ordering for character weight that was shown a few days ago lists the percentages that it takes to KO that character with Mario's Side Smash from the center of Final Destination.
# The best three attacks listed for each character tell which attacks have the most knockback, and what percentage they can KO Mario from the center of Final Destination.
# Wall Clinging is confirmed.
# All of the smashes listed are uncharged.
# Mario can be KO'd at 17% by a fully charged side smash from King Dedede. So from the characters we know, Dedede's fully charged Side Smash is the most powerful move in the game.
# The Pokemon Trainer's pokemon all get fatigued at about 2 minutes, even if you dont move them. They all show visible signs of fatigue: Charizard lowers his head and wings. Squirtle drops his front hands to the ground. Ivysaur's bulb withers.
# The Fanmitsu magazine confirms the starting roster is the 23 characters on the Dojo. (minus Snake and Sonic, and including Zero Suit Samus and Sheik)
# Once fatigued, a Pokemon becomes much slower.
# If you do an aerial dodoge the precise moment before you are hit by an opponent, it will reverse the attack.
# The game allows you to access the rules menu directly from the character select screen.
# When Sheik attacks with certain items such as the Star Rod and Beam Sword, she swings upward twice with a single motion.
# The damage percentages were determined in training mode against a dummy CP and do not take DI in to account.
# Wario's bite can swallow and destroy items and projectiles thrown at him. Everytime he does this, he takes 6% damage.
# The magazine makes no mention of being able to start as Zero Suit Samus at the start of a match.
Here is the Character Info:

These were some pieces of information we found on Japanese forums today. Because it mentions a quote from Sakurai, we believe it must be from a publication, perhaps the upcoming Famitsu Weekly, coming out in Japan today. Until we get actual magazine scans, we cannot prove this information is indeed from Famitsu.
# Starting Roster is 23. No new characters are mentioned, so this 23 is everyone on the Dojo, including Sheik and Zero Suit Samus.
# Sakurai: "Pikmin & Olimar are geared towards advanced players."
# You can break open Smash Balls with items, AT's and Pokemon.
# Ike and Dedede's forward smash attacks are insane.
# Zelda's heel (forward air) has been buffed.
# Pokemon get tired after 2 minutes, even if you use special moves. No wonder we never knew about the stamina, since PT was only played in 2 minute time matches, if this is true. It's unknown what they mean by "tired".
We'll keep you posted. Until then, feel free to discuss this and other breaking news in our forums.

I'm going to call bullcrap on your list, Zeep, sorry. I find it hard to believe that they would include three Star Fox characters, but choose ones as similar as Fox, Falco and Wolf. I think if anyone, they would mix it up with characters who could have more unique movesets, like Slippy or Krystal. Also, why would Marth be returning if Ike has a Marth costume?
As for GoG, I believe Ashley is confirmed against, as she shows up in a stage.

It looks like there may be a chance that Geno is in after all. Which is just.....friggin' awesome in every sense of the word.
Look at the latest voice credit. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1659668/)

As voice work why not? It's not like Jin is in the game, we wont see any Tekken characters of course but lots of famous voice actors have lent their talents to more then one game or console.
Yeah, just because he used to do a certain voice doesn't mean he's doing the same voice in brawl. if you remember, Krystal's voice actor also posted on her personal page that she had done the voice of krystal for brawl, but krystal doesn't seem to be on any of these rumored lists.

Nintendo would make a lot of fans happy by making him playable, but I'm going to bet on him being an Assist Trophy. There's no logical reason for them not to include him in the game as at least that, while there is a logical reason to not make him playable, though many of us will disagree with it. Not enough people know who he is. This is not a very far-fetched theory, either, since the voice actor is also doing Ness, there's nothing saying they can't borrow his actor for a less-featured character.

Neutral attack = Hadoken
Side attack = Tasumaki Sempukaiku(Hurricane Kick)
Up attack = Shoryuken
Final Smash = One of his supers from various games (probably Shinkuu Hadoken or Shin Shoryuken)
He coulda worked pretty well considering. It is just SF enthusiasts wouldn't like it because he doesn't have the QCF+P moves... They would just be one button and that is sorta ehh.

I did (I was playing emulated Fire Emblem games for awhile since I had liked the character art as kid and loved the gameplay.)
I did (I have one of the G&W handhelds, when I saw him I remembered where I'd seen him)
And I not sure I agree with the last one, not everyone played SMRPG.

I think a major factor that contributed to Sakurai adding certain characters had to do with their appeal with Japanese fans. New characters like Meta Knight and DeDeDe make sense because Sakuari created the Kirby series, but I think others like Lucas and Lucario were definitely helped along by their popular appeal in Japan (or at least the fact that the Japanese actually know who they are).
But I honestly have no idea if Geno or Mario RPG itself has the cult following there like it does here.
Mirai
01-28-2008, 11:38 PM
Well, one factor that could hurt Geno's inclusion is the fact Super Mario RPG never saw a PAL release.
I only know of him through emulating the game.
Still, he would make a nice addition.

No one really knew who Roy or Marth was when Melee came out, so I dont think thats too big of a problem
koten
01-29-2008, 04:50 AM
Roy and Marth were included due to mass popularity in Japan and removing them in time for the North American release would have been expensive and pushed the game back.
Geno has no fan base anywhere outside of a very small cult following. Not only that but THEY DON'T OWN THE RIGHTS TO HIM! He's not going to be there. It's that easy.
This appears to be a real screenshot of the starting roster:
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/7237/478510hn9.jpg
Now if you assume the full roster is 35 character plus one random character, that works well in that 36 icons is evenly divisible into 3 rows (of 12 icons each).
However, this contradicts my earlier source who claimed that the full roster would have 4 rows of 9. So unless the game actually adds a fourth row as you unlock characters, this may be proof against my original info.
edit: maybe this isn't a real screenshot after all. brawlcentral seems to claim that marth is an unlockable character, and not part of the starting roster, which makes sense.
