So I have this nasty habit of asking my PS3 to do too many things at once. Namely, I'd like to post on forums, download Gametrailers videos, and listen to 1up podcasts all at the same time--you know, stuff that I wouldn't hesitate to do on a PC. The problem is that GT and my PS3 don't play nice, as maybe 25% of the time I use the site the PS3 freezes. Every time I go there I cross my fingers that I can queue up a download or two before fleeing to more friendly sites. Making this even more tiresome is the PS3's inability to jump around in an mp3 (so I can find where the podcast left off after the system freezes). Sure you can fast forward, but not fast enough to get through a 2 hour podcast easily... (unless I've missed some simple solution).

So my question is this: what can I do on my PS3 while I listen to podcasts? Is there a GT-like site out there that has HD vids for download but without the PS3-crashing Flash bloat? If not, what sites do you have in your favorites that are PS3-friendly (gaming or non-gaming)? I need ideas for timewasting that don't overload the PS3's fragile browser... Sometimes even GAF threads will crash the thing...

If you don't want to talk about that, you could speculate about whether Sony plans future upgrades to the browser (can we make it stop asking to run the plug-in already!? Shouldn't there be a "run all plugins or not" feature?), what features you'd like to see (it's been some time since our last thread on that), or why what I'm asking for is impossible (that might be fun, too).

Yeah the limited ram in the XMB can be problematic for doing any hard multi-tasking, I'm hoping it's an issue they're hammering out; while it has improved, it's got a long way to go from being a game of russian roulette with the OS.

Um, play Super Star Dust? :)

I think the RAM will always be a sticking point here. Maybe if they're able to widdle down the OS footprint some more in the future it'll be a bit more flexible.

Some tips:
Go in the browser after at least 50% of your friends list has loaded,
i have the feeling it chrashes more often after booting when youre to fast with accessing it.

After quitting a game, dont start another application to fast.

Deactivate the info board, it slows down the XMB and after deactivating i had almost no freezes anymore.

Dont open to many windows in your browser at once and clear your cache every then and now.

Dont quit a game or application while it heavily loads, be patient when you started a game/demo you actually didnt want to play and look at the HDD control lamp.

Just navigate not to fast and dont do to much at the same time and you shouldnt have a big problem.

This is probably thanks to Adobes policy of developing crappy flash plugins for anything but Windows. Us Linux or Mac users have been feeling the pain for years.

As for not being able to jump ahead in your podcasts, your only solution right now would be to transfer it to your PSP/MP3 player that has a decent music player and just keep it next to you while you play your games. I've found that it works just as well/better than having in game soundtracks due to you not being able to skip ahead.

I can't imagine trying to get back to a spot in a 2 hour 1up yours podcast (on the PS3), I would cry.

That would be badass if you could actually install more ram into the PS3! Especially for Linux..

I did not realise you could get anything in the right format from Gametrailers? Gamersyde have downloadable stuff in mp4. And it can stream into the ps3 browser too if you want to look at it first. Not great but I remember seeing the update for warhawk on there first.
