Canada doesn't even have PSN cards in any stores yet unlike the US. And apparently pre-paid credit cards are not 'all the rage' in this country and are exceedingly rare to find.

Apparently GS and EB don't get PSN cards yet either (in US or CA) by the way because they flat out can't handle them right now until they get a register update (lame EB and GS like always). Their update comes in Jan 2009 apparently.

Well i missed out on the LBP beta but the game I'm staring at now makes up for it. Wow I thought the old wipeouts were impressive but my first go made even an old veteran's jaw like mine drop. Screen shots do not in any way convey how stunning this game looks and plays.

at first I thought the accelerator might be a trigger but its still X
the triggers do air braking which I think is awesome because you brake a different amount depending on how far you push the button thus allowing you to do some nice cornering.
The trophies relating to zone mode are insane and despite zones being my favourite mode its unlikely that I will be acheiving those any time soon.

I forgot to try playing with the motion sensors but aside from that it Controls just like Pure on psp. I spent my first few hours using analogue thinking the dpad wouldnt work as is the case with many games these days and then started using the dpad without realising

Same here. When I joined you guys, I had only used the slowest class, so going up to Rapier was interesting. I was like, "I usually tap the brakes slightly at this point here", by the time I had thought about it, I had already slammed into the damn wall. I've only just started getting into the faster classes, so I'm slowly getting used to it.

I'm impressed with the online play though, everything ran very smoothly, no screwing around. Just need to catch up with Gegenki!

Finally did it!
I set 20.15 on Vineta K Phantom Speedlap and accidentally pressed exit instead of end session and lost the time :( - I looked again and the top time was 20.19 and has been so since friday.
I then did it again and managed 20.16 but it didnt upload my time to the server.
Talking to someone yesterday (he added me after playing online, thus far he has reached zone 74 on anulpha pass!!) I said that i think it is easily possible to break 20 seconds. Today I set the times 20.07 then 20.02 then finally 19.91
The next score down is 20.19. Almost 3x 10ths difference is quite insane

It wasn't even a perfect lap, a scraped the wall a bit and missed some speed pads, only hit 8. A perfect lap, nailing every corner and speed pad is such an insane task but theres clearly room for improvement.

Anyone hunting for the 99 lap trophy should try breaking a record. You get to know the speed pads and corners on the track inside out and trying to beat the time takes your mind off the laps. I got to lap 27 today and didnt even realise.

I was doing that earlier on Anulpha Pass. I managed to get #1 on the Flash class, after doing about 30 laps. Each lap only lasts like 35-30 seconds, so they fly past pretty quickly.

I don't think I'm quite good enough to go up to Phantom though, I'm just about getting used to Rapier, although there are a couple of the tracks where I can't stop hitting the walls.

i tend to stick with assegai for them all, it's well balanced for races, but i suppose there are better ships for the other modes... so yeah, what are you using

The times were displayed as soon as I finished the race, were you looking at time trial or speed run? All of my highest scores have been on speed run. All the people with best lap times seem to be using Assegai, so it's kinda cool to be in there with them using something different.

Edit: I just checked out the records, look like somethings a bit screwy at the moment. It displays my times in my personal menu, but it doesn't display the times in global and friends, and gives my positions before I set my new times. I guess it'll get sorted out soon enough.

As for the ships, I've mainly been using EG-X. I'm gonna use that one to get the 100,000 loyalty points trophy, because I'm already at about 20,000 with it. I'm also planning on getting all the liveries, so I've moved onto the Assegai, which seems like a pretty decent ship.

Zone mode is freakin crazy for the eyes. I've got to zone 61 now and it goes so fast it's ridicilous. Zone Zeus is very very difficult to achieve, might be impossible at least for me.

AG systems sucks so yeah, if you're having difficulties with the campaign, just abandon it. Mirage and Assegai are great for beginners, Mirage if you get eliminated a lot, Assega otherwise. I mainly used Piranha and Icaras for the campaign and some Assegai.

I got to zone 67 just now. It's crazy, such little mistakes kill you. I had full health many times durin 50-60 zones because it seems to give you a lot back for perfect zones and laps at those speeds but once it hits zone 60 and Mach 1 (or something like that) it becomes very very difficult to handle especially because it's gone for so long that your eyes are so damn tired. Zone Zeus is definitely the most "hardcore" trophy IMO (well.. general + platinum on Warhawk aside :p) and without it I never would've got half as far in Zone as I have so another great example of a great trophy that makes you discover new things in a game.

Damn the reverse tracks are difficult! I have won 11 events of the 16 you have to get the arcade perfect trophy but some of the tracks are absolutely brutal reversed so it's quite difficult. Like Metropia or Sebenco Climb, just very very challenging tracks!

Have to say the AG systems doesnt suck afterall. It just felt weird handling it first because of its shape. Overall I think assegai is better becase of the top speed but i'd say AG is one of the best ships. On some tracks Icaras is the best, on others it's Assegai. Then comes AG/Mirage/Piranha. All others are a waste of time.

just bought it :) spend about four hours playing it tonight, my eyes are hurting and im too tired to play well now. Bloody hell, first (wipeout) game ive bought since wip3out, and its a great return to the series. And to think it was only AUD $28... possibly the best value game ive bought so far. Just spent an hour trying to get gold in the aone track on frenzy (the really hilly track with the mag fields). Managed zone 29....bloody annoying. Also missed gold on another speed lap event by 1/100th of a second, on the last lap. Unbelieveable speeds, and custom music makes the game (although the music that comes with it suits perfectly, as always). Zone so far has been the most fun, i can't even imagine how insane level 75 must be...

Haha, nah, you'll get a LOT further once you practise it. On Anulpha Pass there's only a couple of corners where you have to be careful and you'll soon be regularly getting a lot further. Although if you havent played earlier Wipeouts, it could be different and take a little more time. I've played the series since the first game so it was maybe easier for me to advance in this game.

Btw. I got the arcade perfect a couple days ago and I was wrong on the reverse tracks being more difficult. Most of them are actually easier. They just seemed more difficult in the beginning because unlike the normal tracks, you dont get to practise the reverse tracks in the slower speed classes first during the campaign so the tracks feel impossible because you jump straight to the phantom class in them.

Originally I was certain I wouldn't get platinum on this game but now I have all the difficult trophies so now I just need the patch to fix online and I'll get the rest of the trophies. Hopefully the patch comes soon, cant wait to play the game online. It must be insanely fun with everyone really competing for those weapon and speed pads. Should be REALLY intense. :D

You'll get better, gradually. When I first did it, I think I got to about Zone 15. My best now is about 30. Dunno if I'll ever get to 75 though.

Smokey, I've experienced some freezes but only when going online and searching for a friend's room. It is said that deleting some people from your friends list when it's beyond 50 people helps. Don't erase me, please :-p

There is a patch in the works though, but what's funny is that not everyone has the same issues.

It is real time because whenever you adjust the aperture, blur, or focus settings, it has to re-render the image, which is still being modeled in 3D, you've just paused it. Of course, it won't look like that while gaming because that would just make it unplayable [with those effects turned on].

give it time, get good at it. master motion control. tune it until you can find the perfect sensitivity. it adds a whole new level of immersion when you hit a turn and have to not only steer your ship, but also control it's pitch on a hilltop turn so that your nose stays level with the track. twisting the controller as you turn to fine tune your angle... I find myself really getting into it at points like that.

I have "some" regrets buying this game... It's not bad and all, I just don't fancy it... I usually love racing games, but with cars or bikes, not hovercrafts. I can't immerse in there somehow.

Game is crack, rivaling PJM for my favorite PSN game so far! Manage to get to zone 25 today. But I seriously need to step it up a bit.

1) How do you effectively use pitch? When should you hold your ship up, and when should you face it down?

2) How sensitive should you make your air brakes? Do you hold it to turn your hold ship? Or tap it while turning at the same time?

Personally, I've never messed around with the pitch, so I dunno how much difference it makes. As for the air brakes, it depends on the corner. If it's a very slight corner, then a lot of the time you can get away with not using them at all, if you manage to take the corner at the right line. Otherwise, I tap it slightly and turn. It's really just a case of getting used to the tracks and finding the best line.

I've gotten online this afternoon and my connection failed. then I couldn't get back online till hours later even when re-setting my connection and rebooting PS3 a few times. it scared me and I won't try it again for a big.

They fixed one of the most frustrating aspects of the game: having to wait until the host starts an online race.!

With the patch the race will start after 1 minute and 20 seconds when the room is half full. According to Sony one minute of waiting time can be added by the host.

Campaign has also been altered. Every mode now has a difficulty setting. Previously only races and tournaments had this option.Nice about the difficulty settings, the races got so tough later in the game that they were scaring me away from it. I may be playing it more often from now on.

so that is why all my racers and tournies are gold but the rest are bronze in event 7. I couldn't even get 3 more points to enter event 8....
