That's 5 bucks more than the msrp for the sixaxis...surprised it's not 59.99. I dunno if I wanna wait that long. Then again, it's almost march. Hmm..decisions..

April!? :(
$55!? Wtf, ive never seen something like this retail at $55, why not just $50 or $60. And $55 is kinda lame, $5 less then a game? Come on

Are you actually complaining more about a number than about a price? :dur:
If it'll cost 55 €, I've already saved money by importing it last year.

You pay 50 for the SIXAXIS, so 55 is only fair until the old controllers are gone.

Ones enough for me. My friends could just use the sixaxis.

It's much cheaper than I thought. I was predicting a price around $60.00. This is awesome news! I'll be counting the days for the release. God, how I am so sick of the launch Sixaxis controllers. These things are a pain in the butt.

Will this be bundled with all new PS3s from April 16th?

Japan has one, and there is word that Sony plains to release a similar model for North America.

Five dollars cheaper than what I originally thought it would take for them to offer rumble into their controllers. I was basically basing this off the Wii controller even after ackowledging the fact that Sony is a hardware company. The built-in battery is what really gave me that conclusion.

It's not just rumble, the battery has received a power boost as well.
The battery power is one of the main reasons why I'm gonna get a DS3.
To anybody who has a DS3, how much longer do they last compared to the Sixaxis?

Ordered mine from yesasia about 15.2. and it arrived yesterday. Man I'm loving the thing. I was actually amazed how robust it feels, when you bend from the handles Sixaxis actually squeaks, this gives no such sounds and feeling. Dual analogs are a lot better now, much more precise with fast games of Resistance and Warhawk.
And yes I understand now I missed the rumble although eventually it didn't mean a thing :) It's only when you notice it's back there you understand how much more immersion it creates :P
Altogether a must buy. I'd throw Sixaxis to bin now but it's nice to have a second pad at least until they start selling tripleshock at local markets.
edit: yeah and it goes for $59.99 without additional fees which is ~40€ at the moment, so a bargain. It will probably be sold at 59.90€ here.

55$ in US = 55€ (at least) in EU. Add 10€ extra for the bloody thieves (SONY HELLAS/retailers)...
Damn them !!!!!

The squeaking isn't what concerns me - I can deal with that although that would be a bonus. It's the fact that this thing continues to disconnect from the console on it's own inabling the action on screen to have a mind of its own. The analogue sticks are also a pain since they no longer reposition themselves in the center anymore (it's always a millimeter off unless you manually reset them), which can greatly affect the activity on screen without you ever touching the sticks. There were times where I found myself wanting to chuck the controller out the window. LOL!
The thing is, I've had many exclusive PlayStation controllers before, and this is the first time I've experienced any of these problems, if not a single problem at all with them. So you have to understand how pleased I am to know that the DS3, which happens to be the original DS design, based on much research, is launching here very soon. Man, am I so ready to get my hands on one!

You'll be happy to know that DS3 fixes the disconnect problems, and thank God too! FPS's/Racing Games were near impossible to enjoy with those random disconnects...

Considering how long it took for the DS3 to hit the states I'm glad I decided to import last year... ;)

I know the DS3 rectified a lot of the mentioned problems when it was launched in Japan, but I purposely put off buying one to assure myself that all of the potential kinks had been found by the time it launched in North America. It appears the wait was worth it.

Exactly like the PSP Camera, increased Mega Pixels when it comes to the US. So waiting can be beneficial...sometimes

Huh? PS3 controllers haven't had any issues ever since a few months after the November 2006 launch. I never experienced any issue neither with my European launch sixaxis nor my Japanese DS3. If you wouldn't have minded to pay to import a DS3, you've been waiting in vain.

That was around the time I purchased the controllers. At first I thought it was me, but then found other reviews saying the samething.
I don't consider it in vain since I'll at least benefit from the price. ;)

Really? Yes-asia had free worldwide shipping and sometimes the price fluctuated below $60. And if you're European, chances are that it'll be priced at no less than 55 € and in that case you would have actually saved money.

Personally didn't have those random disconnects with Sixaxis either so can't say anything about that. But DS3 is worth every penny, dudes you won't even look at Sixaxis after having date with DS3 :D

I'm not concerned since it was a choice I chose to take. All that matters now is the day it launches. But I'm happy that you're happy with your purchase.

They only happen with 1st gen Sixaxis controllers(before summer '07, iirc).
My friend bought a PS3 this autumn, and she hasn't had any disconnections.
I have a pad from the launch, but I only had this problem for the first couple of months.

EU launch Sixaxis... no disconnection problems here either...
And, I have a WiFi router here too... maybe Channel 10 is less prone for interference
