I recently tried to swap out my 60 gig internal HDD with a 250 gig one, but the damn blue screw stripped and is sooo got damn tight that I can't get it to budge no matter what I tried.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it out without damaging the PS3?

Make sure that the cross-head screwdriver that you use isn't too small, it might sound strange but both me and my dad tried and failed to unscrew the BSOD (blue screw of doom ;) ) using a fairly small screwdriver that fit the BSOD perfectly.

After moving to a more sizable screwdriver though, the screw came out fairly easily.

I think it has something to do with the amount of pressure you apply to the bastard thing, with a small screwdriver it's just not possible to apply enough.

So:
Make sure to have a sturdy screwdriver you can apply plenty of pressure with.

Hold the PS3 with the HDD facing you or the hand holding the screwdriver.

Use the empty hand to push/hold the PS3.

Hopefully, that should work

Thanks. So a needle-nose pliers is the key eh! I'll try to buy some today. I already returned my 250 gig hdd, but it's cool, cuz I overpayed for it anyways and Imma just get a cheaper one for the same amount of space or a larger one for around what I paid for the 250.

Atm I've got a 3.5" external HDD enclosure that's connected to the PS3's internal SATA port via a little thing called HDXT.

You migh question the point of having it external as opposed an internal one but 500GB for £100? Yes please.

I would suggest this personally, 3.5" HDD's are typically faster, cheaper and offer more storage space than their 2.5" counterparts.

I already have a 500 gig external hdd, but I want vids and music to be directly onto the PS3's internal drive cuz so far, games that even utilize custom soundtracks will only allow you to access what's on the primary drive.

So the thing I need is a HDXT? Cool I wanted to upgrade too with an external enclosure but didn't know if the external enclosures could connect to a SATA port.

Oh and another plus to keeping the HD external is less heat in the PS3.:thumbl:

Needle nosed pliers, tested and proven.

Hence HDXT ;) It means that an external HDD can be connected to the PS3's internal SATA port and subsequently serve as the internal HDD does - it's just situated outside.

If you're gonna go this route, make sure that enclosure you buy is mains powered, the PS3 wouldn't be able to supply enough power for the HDD and the HDXT only allows for a SATA connection anyway.

Yup, pliers worked for me, too, though I stripped one of the smaller screws...

Did you strip the screw with or without the pliers?

And BTW, thanks for the tip, guys. I hadn't done nor attempted to do it yet, but I was looking to upgrade the drive in my system very soon. It's good to has ran across this infomation before I did. I'll spread the news.

Pliers rescued a stripped screw. I was using a screwdriver that was too big and it stripped one of the screws. I ended up using the pliers to grip the outside of the screw and turned it that way...
