US, February 29, 2008 - Retail copies of God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP popped up in the office this morning and brought with them the promise of blood on the PlayStation 3.

God of War III is coming soon.

Just like the Chains of Olympus ad that was on the back of the God of War II instruction manual, the back of the Chains booklet shows the traditional Omega symbol with PS3 written inside of it. The three is quite large, and below it, the ad says "Coming Soon" and "PlayStation 3."

Now, we did some research, and it turns out the Webster's New World College Dictionary Fourth Edition defines "soon" as "in a short time (after a time specified or understood); shortly; before long."

Damn. Color me owned. I called it a shop in another thread. Shit, I'm happy. NGII is coming out for the 360, so the PS3 needs its own bloody action game exclusive. And Kratos goes harder than Ryu, so I'm dying to see to how gory this game can really get. Sony really thought this one through, didn't they? Resistance 2 counters Gears of War 2, God of Was 3 easily destroys Ninja Gaiden 2(in popularity, at least), LBP hits an unprotected spot, and MGS4 takes care o everything else Microsoft can throw at Sony.

If we're lucky we can add FF XIII to the mix, and any 360 RPG released this year will be beaten, basically.

Well you should know that in the Eu verison of GOW II you can select the super HD mode If i remember.

That should take you directly to Moss's explanation of HD-Mode. The message states that, to access this mode, you'll need to press and hold L1+L2+L3 (the left analog stick button)+Square+Circle before God of War II starts up. (PS3 users are encouraged to plug their controllers in via USB port.) If done correctly, the "SCEA Presents" legal screen will appear in a shade of purple as opposed to its normal white background.

Sorry Cliff i cant remember where i read it but its just a rumour out of GDC. If it is true we should hear about it after Ready at Dawn finishes its port of Okami for the Wii. Other rumours i read were that Halo 4 is being done by Gearbox software and that 8 days was shown behind closed doors and has a name change. Then again none of this could be true so wait for official confirmation.

Like i said take it as rumour till announced. Think about it though the games name was announced nearly 2 years ago and Sony have no platformer out this X-mas and Naughty dog are working on the Uncharted sequel. So if not Ready at Dawn then definitley a third party and who better than a studio founded by ex naughty dogs who have made a brilliant daxter game selling over 2 million on psp and a GOW game which will sell close to 4 million if you combine psp sales with the eventual ps2 ports sales. Im expecting an announcement soon and this part is just my little personal prediction so maybe im wrong. As for the first part im sorry i cant remember where i read the rumour.

Looks like retailers are taking pre-orders for a March 2009 release.

According to our source at Gamestop, starting March 5, EB Games and GameStop stores nationwide will begin taking reservations for God of War III.

With the release of God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP, SCEA has given Gamestop the go ahead to begin taking preorders for the much anticipated God of War III. For those of you who have picked up your copy of Chains of Olympus today, you may have noticed the God of War III "Coming Soon" advertisement on the back of the game's instruction manual.

As of right now all that is confirmed is that God of War III will support 1080p and have both SIXAXIS and rumble functionality.

Stay tuned to PSU for more information, as tomorrow we should get an update on price and estimated release date.



Update: Beginning today, Gamestop and EB Games are taking pre-orders for God of War III. As of now they have the title listed to release March 2009 and for $59.99. Since Gamestop receives their release dates from their distributors, our guess is that SCEA plans to have God of War III ready sometime around Spring to Summer of 2009.

for argument's sake, even IF this was about GoW3, it doesn't mean actual online multiplayer. maybe they can do what Ninja Gaiden (and DMC?) did by having leaderboards for status and scores or some other 'online' feature that isn't straight multiplayer.

and for me, just give me great graphics and update the fighting and add more epic-ness and I'll be one happy fan- regardless of whatever they do on the side.

Considering how all GOW games to date have been all about the single player experience, just don't jump into conclusions so prematurely believing they plan to implement online multiplayer action. All this could mean could be some kind of future Home integration for all we know.

Yeah I know, but the last interview with the SCEA guy who worked on the US version of Prologue said then (before release), that it needs at least a year to get GT5 out the door, this is why I think, Sony breaks tradition and releases GT5 later than usual (all GTs from 1 on where released in the March timeframe in Germany, iirc)

When it comes down to it, Brett Ratner might not be the most hated man in the movie business -- but he's definitely in the top five. In a profile for Ad Age, the director sat down to talk about Brett Ratner Brands, his new consultancy business. But things get interesting right at the end of the article when the journalist dropped the bomb that Ratner might be working on a big-screen version of the best-selling video game, God of War.

For those of you who haven't played it (and I really recommend you do), here is a quick primer: God of War centers on Kratos, a celebrated soldier who is haunted by his past transgressions and his debt to the Gods of Olympus. It could have just been your typical hack and slash game, but the cinematic approach and highly entertaining story line earned it a reputation as one of the best around.

Talk of a feature film surfaced back in 2005, and Universal was the studio named to produce. According to recent reports, the script has already been finished and casting has begun to heat up (some recent buzz has Djimon Hounsou in consideration for the lead). But then fans the world over had to deal with the unpleasant news that Uwe Boll was being considered to direct -- luckily, this never came to be. So I guess Ratner could be considered a step in the right direction. Then again, if you had the misfortune of seeing Rush Hour 3, you would probably disagree.

That is a good choice. I don't mind the story being a bit different from the game. As long as it is viceral, and the visuals and art direction is top notch.

As long as it isn't different...in a Brett Ratner kind of way. I just can't see that man getting the look and feel of it "right".

I watched X-Men for the first time in a long while. That is such a good movie...Part 3 on the other hand, I like to pretend that abomination of a movie doesn't exist.

I don't want Michael Bay or the wachowski brothers doing it either. The wachowskis are inconsistant, and I'm sure Bay will find some way of adding americana to the thing....so no thanks.

Ryan, one of the staff members here, was able to get a few details about God of War 3.

Graphics:
The graphics will be insane! it will feel like the game is real or well really happening.
The graphics will go well with the gameplay, the grapics wont take the attention away from the action.
One word... amazing.

Gameplay:
The gameplay will be like no other God of War game. I heard that it will have a new fighting system. Ive also heard of a free roam option in a few places but its not confirmed, in other words if they run out of money, no free roam.

Story Mode/Campain:
It will have a new storyline, whole new missions. Might have about 5 or 6 parts (depends on the storyline) and each part will have 5 acts (like Gears of War 2)
They might allow you to play as multiple main characters.
Unlike the other God of War games the final boss/bosses will be way harder if the storyline is easy.

Online:
They might allow you to cuztomize your chracter and create custom weapons.
They might have the basic team deathmatch and other game modes.
Really fun

Overall:
New everything
Great Graphics
Awsome gameplay
Great Game
Great online help (Staff, administration etc.)

I disagree, you can milk stuff even when people demand it. That's especially when it happens, because people like "Game X", and want more of it, and the developer realise they can release "Game X Part 2", "Part 3", and so on with a major compromise to the game's quality or credibility yet it still sells on name alone. That's milking.

Mario Kart is great, Mario Baseball is good, Mario Strikers is Good, Mario Golf was AWESOME, Mario Party blows.... For the most part those games have been pretty damn good especially with parties of people to play.

Writer Marianne Krawczyk has revealed the script she's working on for God of War III will probably run to 120 pages.

Speaking at Austin GDC (as reported by Gamasutra), Krawczyk admitted some in-game dialogue and acting can be, well, piss poor, to paraphrase.

But for God of War III there will be proper rehearsals and readings. Which might take some time, if there are 120 pages to get through. According to Krawczyk, the storyline will be "a very specific three-act experience".

Where was your problem? The "spires" in Hell? That's one place I nearly gave up upon... GoW2 doesn't have such a part... but it is a bit harder in places... but still, both are GREAT games!

Compared to GoW1, GoW2 felt like a tutorial (I've played both on Normal).

ps. I saw GOD OF WAR III when I was in Santa Monica last week. I can and will not give away details. But I think it's ok for me to say two things:

a- HOLY HOLY HOLY FUCKING HELL!!!!
b- I thought GEARS OF WARS 2 looked about as good as a next-gen game could look....and that game is currently- and will probably remain- my game of the year. Im thinking the game will have 4 bosses. I really liked the gameplay, really intense even during plateforming phases. always climbing hanging while kicking ennemies ass. And all the different " killing moves " chops and throwing " always different depending on the ennemy.
And the cinematic camera angle really dynamic and awesome. The only thing I would have love is actually having more interactivity with the surrounding environment. Yes just like Heavenly Sword for example. grabbing tables, and using ennemies weapons on the ground to finish an opponent.
But GOW gameplay mechanic , combo and weapon switching system in GOW II were good additions.

But what kept my attention on this game since I first saw GOW 1trailer was the intense realistic brutality? You could feel that ennemies had weights, and the way Kratos just finished them was just awesome.
I did try similar games like Spartan : total warrior, or the recent Conan, but they did fail giving the same feeling that GOW had.
