SCE UK boss Ray Maguire thanks trade partners after milestone – and promises greater success in ‘08

PlayStation 3 has officially sold one million units at UK retail, hitting the milestone faster than PSOne or PS2.

And now Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Ray Maguire is more confident than ever that the console can step up its game further in the next-gen race this year.

“Achieving one million PS3 sales faster than both PSOne and PlayStation 2 is even more gratifying considering PS3 is a premium product introduced at a premium price,” he told MCV.

“Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.”

You don't know if 1. He really knows, 2. When he considers summer to be, and 3. What he means by "in game communication" and firmware 2.4. Notice how he says them separately like they indicate two different things.

How the hell did I piss on it? I verified the numbers and even showed how bad it beat the X360. The only thing that can be construed as negative was stating the fact that PS2 and PS3 hit 1 million at the same time. If they were referring to shipping 1 million, that can be different but sales to customers hit almost exactly the same week to 1 million.

Ok, they made great hardware, and got some really talented people to work on there system. Big deal? Sony's been doing that since PS1!

Kudos for selling some hardware, but this isn't new thread worthy news...

I'm not dogging Sony, it's just that PS1 and PS2 set a high standard, it's hard for Sony to top it.
