View Full Version : GameStop Holding a Super Smash Bros Brawl Tournament.
I heard this on my radio last night and I'm fucking psyched, I just signed up for it today. The winner apparently gets an LCD TV screen, a library of Wii games and 5000 cash. And since its a launch arty also, everyone will be playing on even ground, though you can count on me to find the cheapest way to win possible. Anyone else down for this tournament?

I'm not going to be able to do it. I've been trying to find a way to let employees play, but I guess there are rules against it.
Also, the prizes aren't local; you have to keep going on to the next level (local, district, state, etc.) to be able to win the stuff.
Don't get me wrong; you're not getting nothing if you win the first part. There are smaller prizes for the levels up to the finals.
Still, I'll be getting my copy when it comes in; that much is for sure. I was second to reserve at my store. :-)

I won't be winning this. I'm not a Smash Bros. nerd. Also, I hate of hate people who think they are really bad ass at Smash Bros. so I would avoid this tournament just for the sake of avoiding those people.

I'm decent at Smash Bros, if I dont have to be at work early and can find a friend to drag along then I'm there.

Heh, Why do I have a feeling that 99% of those people use Fox?

I'm hosting one of these tournaments Saturday night. I'm pretty pumped for it. I want to have all of the characters unlocked for my customers before the tourney starts.
Also, GameStop wants us to do 1 minute timed matches, which is rubbish. I'm doing stock matches.

omg, my location isn't participating out of the thousands of locations. And there is only one in my city :(
Oh well, I would have lost anyways.

Yay, I'm working then. I get to be surrounded by Smash Kidz™, the most annoying people on the entire goddamn planet, for an entire Saturday night!

I think the copy we get is an advanced copy, and it has all characters? Or it should, anyway.
Also, if you want the people to advance on, it has to be the rules outlined in the Tournament Informer. Yes, they're retarded (looked over them today; gay), but we must adhere to rules. :-(
I wish I were hosting ours, but I'm busy that night. If I weren't, I would have asked to host it. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one at work who's actually psyched about it, and I won't be in the tournament anyway.

^I'm definitely NOT adhering to those rules, since (as you said yourself) they are gay. I'm just going to let the winner know how the district tournament will be run so he knows what he's going into.
I just made my own sign-up sheet, and had everybody vote for time or stock matches. I think like 30 out of 32 people want stock, so that's what they'll get.
As for the copy we're using, I just assumed it would be from our own inventory. I don't think Nintendo is too keen on sending out advanced store copies anymore after what happened with Super Mario Galaxy.

Eh, I can still see them doing it. Galaxy was a huge mistake to do that. Luckily, we had to clear it every night, though. Also, I haven't beaten it at my house, but I have beat it at work. :-)
Yeah, talked to my friend who's running it, and I told him stock would be better. He plans on changing the rules, as well. GameStop really needs to know what kind of matches the fans like.
Maybe stock match, 3 lives, either random level or vote. If going to select a default level, then maybe Corneria (or the Corneria look-alike; Battlefield's too small).
Thoughts?

Had to call people tonight. :-(
But yeah, we had a discussion about the tournament and how it was going to work. I tried convincing them to do stock, but all I could get out of them is "it'll depend on the number of people there." Trying to save the five peoples' sanity that will actually attend ours. :-)
Other than that, not much I can really do. I'll just live with it. Also, they said that they wouldn't have minded me hosting the tournament and the release, but I wasn't going to be there, so yeah. We're having the guy who did the Halo tournament host it (I recently got him into Smash Bros. I've done my good deed. :thumbl:).

^Yeah, well GS wants 31 total matches, so 1 minute times brawls makes sense. I'm doing 4 player free-for-all though, not 1-on-1 like they want. That cuts 20 matches out of the tournament, with still the same number of contestants. So stock can definitely work.

GameStop didn't make the rules, Nintendo did. Nintendo are the ones that said we have to use the nunchuck and all that nonsense.

I entered the Tournament...
I came in 3rd place out of 32 people.
Only reason I lost the Semi Finals was the fact that I accidentally feel off the stage. :(
I entered as Link and when I played my first opponent we messed up, we grabbed the wrong controllers and I ended up playing as Samus the entire tournament, which I am horrible with.
