Definitely less. Although there are some great FPS games out there, the bad ones outweigh the good.

I'm not really a huge FPS fan, but I do play them from time to time or when I spot one that's worth playing. Now third person shooters is a completely different story. It's something about knowing where your surrounding are is what makes these types of games interesting to me. I guess if FPS had some kind of a panorama view (much similar to peripheral vision for the human's eye) it could really help expand on the controls a bit.

That always gets me on FPS games, I've never been that good at surveying my surroundings. It's OK when you're playing a game in single player mode, but once you get online, it screws you over so much. I just started playing CoD4 online, and I'm getting taken out a lot by people who are just to the right of me or right behind me.
I guess I'm just a bit of a n00b.

its too much of a regurgitated genre! its now pretty hard to find a really good one becasue everything looks good before it hits shelves... i say less! in general not just on the ps3!

The world has seen too many FPSs, but PS3 could still use more games, good or bad.
I can agree that the PS3 needs more games, but we really didn't need stuff like Turok and Conflict.

There are some crappy FPS games but who cares? Just avoid them :p I think it's great so many great FPS games are coming that I dont even have time to play them all. Unreal and CoD4 now, this year later Resistance 2, Killzone 2 along with a TPS Socom:C. Just perfect. And the Aliens game seems promising as well.
I'd say we have enough. Dont need more but more wouldnt hurt I suppose. Dont need less either.

i have heard that new ico game is fpp.
anyway who cares...
but i prefer 3pp as for example and cliffbo avatar ass for this example too.
i would prefer to see it in 3pp
if it would be fpp. it could get really nasty. or something.
ok my post is such a mess.
because this thred seems to me pretty pointless and random too.

I voted more, but only on the condition that they are AAA titles and exclusive. More mediocre FPS are not needed any where. And if they are not exclusive they will not have that much an an impact on PS3 sales. If they are not going to be AAA titles or exclusive I would rather they not be on the PS3. Besides, the more FPS that are exclusive, the more people who love them will want to buy a PS3. But that is just my meager 2 cents adjusted for inflation.
I would say more if they were games like Bioshock and Metroid Prime.

Wups, almost clicked yes because i thought "FPS=frames per second" at first.
But since I'm so tired of FPSs I wouldn't mind if the FPS genre would step down a bit and give the other genres some more space.

It's not that I don't like FPS, it's just that there's already so many of them in the PS3's library. We need more diversity in the kinds of games available for the console, and hopefully the market will widen this year.

Not just FPS perse, just war/ shooting theme in general.
I have four packaged PS3 games and I see them like this:
Uncharted: 20% platforming - 80% shooting
Unreal Tournament 3: 100% shooting
Ratchet And Clank: 90% shooting - 10% doing various things in short bursts (jumping, lasering, flying).
And Resistance: 99% shooting - 1% random wondering around while you wait for the enemy to appear.
So yeah I am very sick of shooting things with a PS3 controller.
and I guess you'll be adding two more to that list:
GTAIV: Shooting and driving
MGS4: Shooting and, err, stabbing?

One of the original reasons I liked the playstation was because it didn't have loads of shooting games.
My first game was Toca.
Final fantasy was the killer. I almost thought of the PS1 as a platforming and RPG centric console. I didn't feel much different about the PS2, but I now have 3 FPS shooter games for my PS3 and uncharted.
It began to annoy me when I originally saw the line up of FPS games for the PS3. I still retain my original stance that FPS games are essentially the same thing with a different story right down to the feel

agreed with belgarn too many FPS, other genres need a spot.
besides I get sick & tired of fpss of the norm, if they brought out a more bizzarre fps (not just normal guns, with army situations) then i'd be willing to buy.
bring out the games that are amazing in gameplay aswel as length.

MGS4 and GTA4 will NOT be in my list Matt, you have insulted two of the best franchises by saying that :realmad:
In MGS4 you got everything from being shitted on by birds to holding onto the balls of a statue to camouflage yourself and in GTA you have everything from getting drunk to holding onto helicopters.
For shame Matt, for shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame!

Of course you'll be adding them to your list, if the ones you listed are the ones you own.
I was generalising, they both have shooting in, so bugger off! ;)

The title could be a bit more clearly
30fps vs 60fps also is a moot point nowadays (while my PC plays HL2 with all on max at 160fps :P)
But, since I am less of an fps gamer, I couldn't care less for those... Especially since PCs play those games better and mods and maps are always freely available (except the company is EA) and you can also make maps yourself.

Less Less Less !!!
I only want ot play 1 maybe 2 FPS a year.... and to be honest I have only played resistance on the PS3 and can't even bring myself to play COD4 which my step-son bought and plays...
I probably will play Killzone and Resistance 2 but after that I am not even considering playing another one regardless !!!

Well(if they come out this year) there will be more games other than first person shooters like Final Fantasy XIII and Little Big Planet. I really do not care how many fps come out this year as the only fps I will be buying this year are Resistance 2 and KillZone 2.

I say less. Personally I don't mind playing an FPS on my 360 which is what I'll buy any FPS on unless its exclusive like R:FoM and Killzone...

One of the main reasons I bought the PS3 was the variety of games that would come out on the system. I have 10 games so far and none of them are similar to eachother. I don't go out looking to buy new chess boards.

I hate to say less.. but I did.
I mean, I don't want to begrudge those who love FPS's but it seems that something wierd has happened... and I blame MS.
You see, since MS got in the game (consoles) it seems that FPS's and "Action" has taken the fore and tried and true genre's of days gone by have paid the price.
I understand it's all about the market and what's in demand, but I'm just a bit saddened.
You know what I'm currently playing?
Wild Arms.
Yep. The first one. The PSX one..
Playing on my ps3, since apparently that's the only rpg on the ps3...

So yeah.. maybe x360 for rpgs.. or pc..

Don't care about FPS as long some are exclusive and built up from scratch for our lovely console. I usually don't like PC ported game on consoles or MPlateform FPS ( excepted COD4 ).
We should need more TPS like Army of two or Socom etc....
And of course fighting games also...I don't really like Virtua Fighter series.
I m just playing Tekken DR again and again till Tekken6 comes...
AND omg , yes give us blaze blu and SFIV as well...
GIVE US FIGHTING GAMES AND RPGS DAMN !!!
console games... ^^
oh yeah I almost forgot PS3 is not a console anymore... a supercomputer of digital and entertainment system :-D
With so many FPSs released and so many yet to be released, I will have to say less. They don't bother me that much though and enjoy some of them to be honest, but too much is too much. I'm talking about the countless crappy tittles being released in this genre, and most of all about the majority that barely reaches to mediocrecy... If the game brings something new and innovative to the table instead of OK gameplay, graphics, story etc., then it's all good by me, but sadly those are few compared to all those mediocre (at best) tittles released with the intention to ride the wave of recent "halo mania". We need variety, the more genres available the better IMO.
I wish we could get back the days of PSX if I stop to think about the excellent RPGs it had... A thing of the past? Maybe, but with so few of great RPGs in recent past and on the horizon one can dream right?
EDIT: 500 posts people! Now how about that!? :)

I don't see the big deal in Folklore.

Refining my previous post, I think a good game is always good to have (duh!), but it's also nice to see developers move around a bit in the creative space games allow, so when companies decide to make a shooter, as good as it may be, it's starting to feel like the easy/safe road.
