Multiplayer: Sony fans got panicked when they saw NPD numbers and saw it only sold several thousand in the U.S., whatever it was. [Under 75,000 in the U.S. in its first calendar month on sale.]

Price: It’s sold over a million worldwide now, so…It’s actually on par with the PlayStation 2 games now. It sold as many as the other games have at this point in its lifecycle.

We were also panicked because we thought, “Wow, there aren’t that many games on PlayStation 3 this Christmas and “Ratchet” should really be one of those big ones. But then we realized that PlayStation 3 still is in the hands of consumers who tend not to be ‘Ratchet’ fans. They’re the older consumers who are more interested in M-rated games. It hasn’t made its way necessarily to family play. And that’s the kind of game “Ratchet” is. So what we expect and what we’ve seen in the past is that it will have a long tail. … What’s cool for us is there aren’t that many family-friendly games out there [on the PS3] that provide competition for “Ratchet.”

Multiplayer: On the PS2 you guys were basically doing a “Ratchet” every year. Now, the indication is that “Resistance” is trading off with “Ratchet” every year. Is that a pattern people should be expecting from you guys?

Price: Well, we’ll continue to produce new IP, there’s no question about that. So that means that pattern won’t necessarily continue as you stated. You do see “Resistance 2″ coming out this year. One thing that has been nice for us is that instead of the one-year cycles that we had on PlayStation one, we now have two-year cycles, which gives us a chance to do really thorough pre-production and gives the team the chance to take a bit of a break — and gives consumers a break, too. We were experiencing consumer fatigue with “Ratchet” on the PlayStation 2.

Great news cause i was also a little worried that we were gonna see those 2 titles alternating every year. They have gone from platformer to fps, so what kinda genre do you guys think Insomniac will consider next?

And Tools of Destruction 2 would be nice too....

It amazes me that they consider a 2 year game production cycle as stress relief considering some IP'S not even as good as theirs take 3 to 4 years.

That is why they are at the top of the entire industry. Getting a job with them would be a DREAM.

They have very high standards. Someday....

I think for many PS3 owners it was a zero-sum decision between Ratchet and Uncharted this holiday. I might pick it up as a Greatest Hits game, but Price is right on when he says it doesn't appeal to the older, hardcore audience...

I figured as much, but I am hoping with a masters in information security engineering I would be able to get in eventually. I want to Give it a shot at least.

Go for it man! That would kick ass. Maybe someday we will meet at the hollowed halls of Insomniac. :)

My college buddy Corey Peagler works there. You'll see his name in the Ratchet Credits. :) He got hired straight out of college. Once I feel my portfolio is strong I'm gonna start sending out applications like crazy, insomniac will be at the top of the list.

^ What kind of work do you do?
Btw, try sending out applications to companies where you don't necessarily want to work, but use that as a way get some experience and feedback, before blowing your one shot a Insomniac. Just a suggestion.

That would be killer :) With the advent of online gaming I would imagine security is always going to be wanted so I will keep my fingers crossed. Still got a while till school is done but they are at the top of my list though.

dude, just draw a little picture of Ted Price standing all triumphantly & stuff and looking epic, send it in to Insomniac... flattery gets you EVERYWHERE.

It's funny, as soon as I get my English degree I'm going to apply to be a tester at Insomniac and work my way up :-p

And I think Ratchet can appeal to the older, hardcore audience because of its level-up system & stuff, but those shooter-heads need to expand their minds :-p
