An interview with Shigeru Miyamoto in the Official French Nintendo Magazine seems to indicate so...

I'm sure by now you are all aware of the fact that a Metal Gear Solid game was announced for GameCube a few weeks back. Shigeru Miyamoto had discussed it while in Paris, and then, only a few days later, it was confirmed by Konami. After this happened, gamers everywhere couldn't help but wonder which MGS it would be. Would it be a port of MGS 2? Would it be a remake of the original MGS as many had thought? Or least likely, would it be a completely new addition to the series?

Well, according to the Official French Nintendo Magazine, it seems that the game is in fact Metal Gear Solid 4! Not only that, but in a move that no doubt shocked the entire gaming community, Nintendo has apparently gained the title as an exclusive! This is definitely the kind of announcement that sells sytems. Many more people will be driving home from their favorite retailer with GameCubes in hand once they get the news.

What's that you say? What happened to MGS 3? Well, despite the fact that the magazine printed it as MGS 4, the odds are that this actually is MGS 3, and that they let a terrible typo get through. We don't know for sure, but we hope to get confirmation on this soon.

and i think maybe they wrote Metal Gear solid 4 cuz they counted Substance as 3

hmmmm....this is good news indeed....if its true
as usual i don't like to believe it until i read official statements from the company, in this case Konami

but if it were true....very good news indeed :D

Personally,i think -if it's true-it's good news for Nintendo,as it would defintely help them gain more popularity among Ps2,and Xbox fans.

However,if i had a say in that,i would defintely choose a remake of Metal Gear Solid.One that is on the level of quality that RE1 had for the GameCube. Reasons for that are many,but i'll try to summerize:

1.Metal Gear Solid was indeed a GREAT hit,and even if people claim otherwise,it was such a novel game that had so many innovative ideas.The second game-in my opinion-failed to have the same impact on me,or many other Metal Gear fans i know.

2.the level of voice acting in MGS was unmatched,unrivaled.In fact,i always held great respect and admiration to that game for many reasons,and one of the main ones that it had a voice-casting,and such a high quality script that literary surpasses ALL the anime i've watched that were translated to English.I simply listen to the SAME voice acting,and enjoy the different feelings they delievr of suspense,thrill,and excitement,in new clothing,e.i graphics.

3.I thought the only thing that was less than perfect in MGS was the graphics.Now it's a chance for Konami to fix that,and Earn more cash out of a basically old game.

4.I seriously doubt a 3rd Metal Gear would bring any novelty to the franchise.I think-and i know i'll be ticking many people off-that Mr Hideo is losing his touch.So,That's why having a gauranteed old game with some tweaking and some new ideas is a BETTER idea to me than risking a new game that might flop.

That's what i think,at least.Any thoughts?

a remake is not a bad idea
but a new game isn't either
whilst a remake can be graphically enhanced, the story and gameplay must remain similar to the original.
but with a new game, the graphics can be enhanced AND it gives the development team an opportunity to implement new ideas (eg new combat moves, weapons etc). it also allows for a new story line full of new characters and areas to explore.

MGS4 was not even confirmed. MGS3 was not even supposed to come out. MGS3 was already confirmed for PS2. So its not MGS3, and not MGS4. Probably the remake...or else they got something confused with Res Evil 4.

Anyhow the real question is with this hype and potential gold mine will nintendo fuck it up? most probably they will. I realy can't see a metal gear game Rank nintend up with their former status.
(if mario can't do it and Samus can't do it, can Snake?)

I'm gonna have to go with him on this. Personally, I don't give a crap about Metal Gear but it would be good news for those who cares and great news for Nintendo in general. But in times of bullshit and Megatons you just have to be cautious. This news sounds too good to be true and it's very likely that it is. I just want to make it clear, I never liked Metal Gear or Resident Evil and unlike other Nintendo fanboys, I'm not gonna start cheering now that just cause it's on GC. If it is true then that's great for Nintendo.
