Character Dissappointments - Which ones?

Which returning characters are you disappointed with? As in which ones do you remember using a lot or liking from previous Smash Bros that you have let you down so far?

Which new characters are you disappointed with that you expected more from?


My Disappointing Veteran: Yoshi - I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to get into him very much. I don't like him, I remember using him a lot and he was awesome for the homerun contest in Melee. His egg roll move (which I know he had before) seems like a recipe for suicide to me. Runner-Up: Fox

My Disappointing Newcomer: Olimar - I want to like Olimar so much, I feel maybe it's that I just don't understand how to use him best. Sometimes I seem to like him, but overall I'm disappointed. I don't like his level either which hurts to admit Runner-Up: Solid Snake


Just for fun I'll also mention the characters which surprised me by overachieving my expectations.

My Overachieving Veteran: Samus - Previously I wasn't a big Samus fan in Smash Bros...just never got the feel for her, but I will say I'm definitely finding her more useful in Brawl. Runner-Up: Donkey Kong

My Overachieving Newcomer: Wario - I like his moves, his strength, and he doesn't feel slow and clunky to me. I'm so glad they put him into Brawl. He really deserved a spot in Melee. Runner-Up: Meta Knight

i'm disappointed they brought back jigglypuff and falco. as to how they play, i'm fine with how everyone plays, different people like to play different styles, what's a disappointing character to me is someone else's favorite which makes playing more fun, if they were making a game all full of characters that everyone likes and no one dislikes then i imagine they would all play very similarly.

As for yoshi... shit, I can't get into that fucker either.

I HATE Dedede and Wario with a passion. Following them on the hate totem pole is Lucario (Mew-Two was like a billion times cooler), Ice Climbers and Luigi.

I do however love Ike, my new favorite. Pit is also closing in along with Sonic and Snake from the newbies.

Thankfully, Link and Samus are still aweasome from my old times.

Solid Snake's everything I'd hoped he would be :-D

I think Lucas is absolutely ridiculous though... he makes me want to scream "OVERPOWERED!" until my lungs are empty.

Wolf's a disappointment in the newcomer category, personally... especially since his Final Smash is the same as Fox/Falco's. Ganondorf definitely seems to do well in Brawl compared to Melee from what I've seen too :)

To be honest though, I only really play as Solid Snake so the rest is at least 95% observation :)

Snake is pretty terrible compared to some of the other characters to be perfectly honest. Still not the worst, but he's deffinatly not great.

Link is still my favorit. Ike is my new second favorit, and Samus rounds out the top three.

My most hated characters has swelled quite a bit. Jigglypuff is still down there, Ness and his clone are at rock bottom, Lucario is shit-tastic, I really cannot stand Sonic either.

Oddly enough, I am probably the only person on the planet who actually likes the Ice Climbers. Their fun to play as. I'm not good with them, but giving them a round or two once in a while is a lot of fun.

I'm too stuck on Link or Donkey Kong half of the time. Link is my main boi.

However, Ness and that other little round goat from from the Earthbound games are worthless and shouldn't be on the same stage as these people. I've always hated Ness, now I hate Lucas.

Ice Climbers seem more than worthless... but the level doesn't suck.

Olimar is pretty much useless to me, and I agree.. his level sucks. I'd say possibly the worst in the game..

I've yet to get Toon Link, which I want to use the most..

Well seeing as Spoilers have been spoiled somewhat already in this thread.

I haven't unlocked Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, or Wolf yet.

Wolf I know what to expect, a Fox clone...and I already don't like Fox.
Jigglypuff I didn't like him before so I expect to almost only be him when I HAVE to.
Ganondorf I don't remember liking him too much in Melee, but you know I saw someone using him online and he seemed badass (is he a clone of C.Falcon again?)

I still have 2 other characters to unlock besides those 3.

I've got experience with Snake so I do pretty damn well if I may say so :-p

My friend normally uses Jigglypuff or Lucas and he's quite ridiculous with both

Worst level in the game to me is the DK level where it moves up.....that's the worst IMO. Thankfully it's the only new stage that moves.

Yeah I'm disappointed with Snake, he's not horrible but not that great either.

I'm not even sure if I've even been Lucario yet. But I did unlock him at least.


Oh and Ness/Lucas...if it wasn't for no real triple jump.....they'd be good to me. But I don't like them without a triple jump.

I actually like Wolf more than Fox, and I really like Falco this time around. Donkey Kong has also seem to have gotten better. Captain Falcon, who has always been my favorite, has grown on me even more.

One person I'm disappointed with now is Jigglypuff. Rest doesn't have the massive force behind it like it once had. Olimar also can't seem to grow on me either. I see he's secretly good, but I just can't get used to him.

My favorite new character though would have to be Sonic. He's just a big cheese sandwich.

Yeah, Jigglypuff's rest definitely got beaten with the nerf bat, my friend's bummed about that. Ganondorf seems to move faster to me, but it's also been a long time since I played Melee.

I kind of want to try Lucario, especially since he gets stronger as he gets damaged more... that sounds awesome.

Olimar is certainly disappointing. Wolf is disappointing only because he's too of a clone. Couldn't his Final Smash have been something like the Star Wolf team dropping a barrage?

Falcon feels downgraded. His falcon punch is still devastating, but the rest of his attacks feel lukewarm to me. I dunno.

Everyone has been designed to get stronger when they take more damage.

I've tested it out with the handicap. Put someone at 300% and play a match. They can KO you with a smash attack at 25% damage.

Are you sure its everyone? The Lucario update on the dojo specifically said that he gets stronger as he takes more damage, but it hasnt said it for everyone else. Maybe its stronger with Lucario, but I havnt noticed it with anyone else.

Edit: Oh, and while im here... Falco is still awesome, but I dont like how they got rid of his mega long kick as his forward smash move. I was expecting more from Olimar, I cant seem to grasp exactly what youre meant to do with him. Hes still funny to look at though. I think Snake blows, but I was never really expecting anything from him in the first place. My little brother was though, and found him to be shit when we first unlocked him, but after a bit of perseverance he was able to use him very effectively. Sonic's average, I was expecting a little more from him, but he's is the fastest now and I guess you cant have super speed and super strength too. I was looking forward to using Lucario too, hoping he would be more of a fighting pokemon instead of an engery wielding one. I was pretty upset when i realised he's pretty much just Mewtwo only easier to control. And of course Im pretty upset they even included jigglypuff at all. What the hell is the appeal of that thing? I really want to like Ike, but I cant stand how his side smash is super slow.

But its not like I cant deal with these problems. I even use most of the characters every now and then. And Im pretty sure I can find something to bitch about in every character. I guess thats called balancing them.

On a side note, I was ecstatic to find out how awesome Diddy Kong and Toon Link are. They, and Falco, are my most used at the moment. I didnt want to like Wario, but hes actually pretty sweet. I find he controls really well in the air which is a bit of a bonus.

I unlocked Ganondorf tonight (200 Vs Matches), and I'm happy to see he is not an exact clone of Captain Falcon like he was in Melee. He seems to have some good attacks, but his Smash attacks seem VERY slow. Even his footwork is slow. But he does have very good strength. I'll def put more time in using him tomorrow to get a better overall feel.

Now I'm only left with: Wolf, Toon Link, Jigglypuff and Mr.Game & Watch to unlock. Don't really care about Wolf seeing as he's a clone, I don't care too much about Jigglypuff since I thought he was crap in Melee. Mr.Game & Watch was one of my favorites in Melee, and Toon Link I don't care about either, but I do want his stage.

Only thing I am mad about is the Trio, Fox, Falco and Wolf having the same final smash.

Link and Toon Link and then Ness and Lucas.

They could of taken the time to change em up.

Ike is a beat stick. I prefer him over Roy . Marth is still my favorite, despite his range being reduced and his A attack isn't as fluid.

I got one of my sisters into Zelda and my other sister into Samus while I was home for a week. I should have left this game with them, and pick another one for my self. Atleast i would've had challenge when i come back home.

I haven't really got into the game yet with work, but it is a fun game to play.

I am dissapointed so far in Meta Knight and Snake to some extent. Pit is better than I expected, but I am just not very good at the game either. So my thoughts probably aren't reflective of the whole.
