Man, the PS3 didn't do bad because of the white room stuff. The PS3 did bad because it didn't have any games to advertise along the white room stuff! They didn't even advertise multimedia capabilities along with the wow-ing ads.

Just because there's association (white room & poor PS3 sales) doesn't prove causation! ***K! Research 101 people! You know... observational studies? They lack ability to prove causation!

'Wow-ing' people and having a million things to show at the same time is prime. One or the other is not nearly as good as them both even if one is better by itself than the other by itself.

Sweet special effects for the ad btw.

As well I think this particular ad should be praised for advertising something like updating which describes/hints the PS3 as a some multimedia and online capable machine which it is in fact (except I'm worried people won't understand it and view the ending as pretty random, hopefully they 'get' the rest of the ad).

I'm very glad they said 'Technology that updates itself' instead of 'software' which would've been poor word choice.

I'm not saying the white room caused bad sales, I'm saying it sucked in and of itself. Especially the crying baby. I already wanted a PS3 at that point, but the ads were just bizarre and confusing art house shit, which I get much of the same vibe from here.

I'm not going to dispute whether or not you or I liked it, that's not an arguable subject. And I totally respect your view of it in that sense or your opinion about how effective they are as well. I just disagree about their effectiveness (alongside other things).

Just saying 'it sucked in and of itself' is not really a proper way to convey 'I do not like it.' Something like that would actually mean it was 'inherently bad' and the closest thing you can get to the ideally 'inherently bad' is to mean most people didn't like it/didn't understand it and thus you'd also have to conclude ineffective.

But I digress. I just find it boring to always just say what 'I/you' think because you really get nowhere except have a bunch of unorganized set of opinions everywhere. It's easy to realise the options are 'yes, no and maybe' so I'd rather like talking about the market on the whole. It's more fun to me.

Well in any case they have been advertising Gran Turismo on the london underground.
Its very short (they have these cool new boards that show videos)
But it basically shows racing and then shows a PS3 GT5P bundle. It then cuts to another ad which is about 5 - 10 seconds long then starts again.

They are all over central london tube stations (the kinda stations that are full in rush hour)

They didn't all suck, but the baby doll one sucked because the purpose of a commercial is to communicate an idea clearly to your audience. And then, make people feel desire. A commercial's sole purpose is to make you feel you lack something. The baby doll one (I do like a few of the other ones that actually showed off games or ps3's features) specifically was just unsettling and it didn't really communicate at all why the hell you should shell out for a PS3. It failed in it's most important duty as an ad. It was confusing, kind of creepy and for a lot of people, a turn off.
There's no arguing semantics or meta-film or artsy sophistication about that.

i like the one where they show off all the games like r & c, uncharted, and heavenly sword. I can't remember it but it was cool. I felt like puking with the this is living ads and whatever crap they show in europe. If their not going to show off the games then atleast don't creep me out.
