And that is, of course, before they see the estimated price tag.

i think PSP will be good for a little bit, then it will start coming out with shitty games like PS2, and now PS2 has all the worst games graphically ever, so basicall i dont know what i am saying and i will shut up...

PSP will get to a point where it sucks though

I'm hoping gamers will realize it's the same thing they've been playing for years....only portable and expensive.

Pro A. that avatar kicks PSP square in the nuts.

Oh the word play. It hurts. No wonder I battle rap

i believe the PSP will do good.

i mean, seriously, the playstation name alone will gets casual gamers to buy it.

If it is a portable PS2 then it will definetly carry a huge price tag but I don't think it has the muscle of the PS2. Closer to between N64 and DC.

I saw some presentation videos of the different effects this thing can do. It looks pretty damn good. Showed particle effects, landscape mapping, and water effects, and all were pretty damned impressive.

It just shows the popularity of the PSP to Nintendo fanboys.

You know your in trouble when even your hardcore fanbase is discussing more interest in the new Sony PSP (weather it be curiousity or what not) then there own DS.

Not everyone will like the new layout for the DS either.

I think to many this is the Handhelds board. (There were Ngage...etc... posts here before) However those weren't nearly as interesting to people as the PSP and filtered quickly.

BTW Shy the PSP has more special effects it can do than the ps2!

BTW Viper. It has more power in everyway then the Dreamcast and more special effects than the PS2. So were talking ps2 rivaling handheld here.

Yeah, just, the quality of the vids I saw were pretty shitty. Guess we will be seeing some serious footage of both the PSP and the DS sometime this week during E3.

I just made this post for another board but for viper.

You guys got to remember

This is 1st generation graphics that are still beta.

Remember the 1st generation graphics for the PS2 (all seem to look worse than the dreamcast)

For graphics of a game that is not finished yet and being first generation...

I'd deffinatly see it as PS2 capable graphics.

One of the better looking late 1st generation titles for PS2 (FINISHED)

BTW Viper. It has more power in everyway then the Dreamcast and more special effects than the PS2. So were talking ps2 rivaling handheld here.
So then lets do the math.

PS2 - $179.99 Compact - $250.00
Wireless - $50.00
Media extras - $50.00
Built in high quaity screen - $100.00

Do I really need to keep going?

i really dont think they will sell the PSP for $450...highly unlikely

i am even more sure that Sony is willing (and is going to) lose money on each PSP unit they sell to the public.

to answer xboxsp's question, no this is not a PSP board now....but it is fairly obvious that the PSP will be a very popular product:

~ playstation branding and history
~ sony fanbase is very large, loyal to their "playstations"
~ it WILL be the hot new thing...remember how the PS2 had people waiting in line for it all over the nation....get ready for a second outing.
~ sony's userbase is older and has larger pockets that shouldn't be overlooked. By working at Best Buy and Circuit City, I have personally witnessed that today people spend up to $500 on Pocket PCs (not including accessories and add-ons)...they will have not problem spending money on a device that delivers awesome 3D gaming, connects wirelessly to the internet, instant messaging, and plays high quality video and music MP3s.

I am being complete unbiased when i say that I believe that the PSP will be a strong contender in the handhelds division. It may not be the "walkman of the 21st century" like the Sony exec claim, it will definately be the "powerful and impressive handheld of the 21st century"

Let's take that into consideration shall we?

Xbox was estimated to lose over $100.00 per system sol dna has sold about 15 million and has caused moe than $2 billion in losses.

Now take the PSP and give it GBA like sales numbers. Losing still $100.00 on each PSP and selling 4 times as many systems as Xbox, you can expect an $8 billion dollar loss.

Even simple math.....50,000,000 million PSPs at $100.00 loss on each = $5 billion dollars.

That would take all profit Sony has made from teh PS2 completely away and the only console manufacturer making any money would be Nintendo. Do you really think Sony is about to do that?

comparing a console's net loss to a handheld's net loss it not equivalent at all

...its like you said previously...like comparing apples to oranges (http://www.nintendonow.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10640).

second, i am sure Sony has no problem releasing a handheld with all the features ...besides....they are already doing so!.

Memory Stick expansion slots (PSP: yes)
High quality Stereo Sound (PSP: sure!)
USB 2.0 connectivity (PSP: absolutely)
Capable of wireless Internet (PSP: its there.)
802.11b wireless networking (PSP: definately)

Sony has already provided all of these features to the public.....
at $199.99

Add a compact PS2 - $179.99

Total = $379.98

My two points are, it will cost a huge amount to manufacture so to make moeny, they'll have to see high. OR, they can go Xbox and sell at less than cost and lose lots of money on each sold....but handhelds sell much faster than consoles and the lossses would be as much as MS for Xbox.

Either way It's either going to be expensive to cost Sony buckets of money. There is no getting around ecomonics.
